Question:
Christians, if no one can say "Jesus is Lord" except by the Holy Spirit, how can Jesus say he'll reject some people who have the Holy Spirit?

1 Cor. 12:3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.

Mathew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

''how can Jesus say he'll reject some people who have the Holy Spirit''

you have not given support for this part of your argument

my opinion is that you do not understand Paul's statement on it's own.

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. 2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. 3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

obviously many atheists called Jesus Lord at one time before converting to Atheism. And many atheists now call Jesus accursed.

When Jesus returns He will separate the those who have called Him Lord, but did not mean what they professed.

So I conclude that Paul is referring to those that don't have the Holy Spirit and only had professed belief.

You're reading the scripture as if Paul is making some kind formula. This happens when people take a single verse out of context. Here is what he is saying:

1 Cor 12:1-3

12 What I want to talk about now is the various ways God's Spirit gets worked into our lives. This is complex and often misunderstood, but I want you to be informed and knowledgeable. 2 Remember how you were when you didn't know God, led from one phony god to another, never knowing what you were doing, just doing it because everybody else did it? It's different in this life. God wants us to use our intelligence, to seek to understand as well as we can. 3 For instance, by using your heads, you know perfectly well that the Spirit of God would never prompt anyone to say "Jesus be damned!" Nor would anyone be inclined to say "Jesus is Master!" without the insight of the Holy Spirit.

This is a chant, a show off thing, ppl who KEPT SCORE.

Notice the other group did not do ANY of that.

To say, know that Jesus is Lord...is not words alone,

but knowing what this means.

Then, they will be humble, contrite, DOWN PAY what they did.

This Lord, Lord is announcing ...how great...'I am',

not reverent.

The DOUBLE use shows you this.

You need to take the context of this scripture also.

Luke 6V46:"And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and DO NOT the things which I say?

V247:"Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and DOETH them, I will show you to who he is like.

V48:"HE is like a man which built a house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

V49:"But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built a house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great."

Bottom line, one whose actions back up their faith, is different to one who profess God, but when the test of their faith comes, they CHOKE.

The fact that someone says "Jesus is Lord" by the Holy Spirit, DOES NOT in any way, shape or form prevent them from choosing evil over good.

Judas was hand picked by Jesus and yet he never called Jesus Lord, in the right sense of your scripture's context of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 16V17:Peter called Jesus Lord and Jesus commended him the same quote you gave, however, Jesus rebuked Peter not to long after, when Jesus told him, that the devil was using him, when Peter objected and pledged to fight for Jesus -- and not allow Jesus to go to the cross.

Human God given Free Will is not over ridden by the Holy Spirit, and we have to continue being in the Holy Spirit, which is not a one time thing--but a continuous abiding in the Word of God, which cleanses us all through our life time as believers.

EDIT: This is food for thought and a good question.

Since there are lots of people who think, that they are automatically going to see the pearly gates, by one confession of faith, without living every day in the Holy Spirit and in the cleansing power of the Word of God.

When the Bible says 'SAY" it means say truly, so that this is quite like when Jesus says No one comes to me except the Father draws him -- so it seems to me.

in matthew 7 he is not rejecting people who have the holy spirit living in them.

20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and yet is hating his brother, he is a liar.+ For the one who does not love his brother,+ whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.+ 21 And we have this commandment from him, that whoever loves God must also love his brother.

8 Look out for yourselves, so that you do not lose the things we have worked to produce, but that you may obtain a full reward.+ 9 Everyone who pushes ahead and does not remain in the teaching of the Christ does not have God.+ The one who does remain in this teaching is the one who has both the Father and the Son.

10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your homes+ or say a greeting to him. 11 For the one who says a greeting to him is a sharer in his wicked works.

8 Look out for yourselves,

8 Look out for yourselves,

8 Look out for yourselves,

4 Well, for a while he was unwilling, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Although I do not fear God or respect a man, 5 at any rate, because of this widow’s continually making me trouble, I will see that she gets justice, so that she will not keep coming and pummeling me to a finish.’” 6 Then the Lord said: “HEAR what the judge, although unrighteous, said! 7 Certainly, then, shall not God cause justice to be done for his chosen ones who cry out to him day and night, even though he is long-suffering toward them? 8 I tell YOU, He will cause justice to be done to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man arrives, will he really find the faith on the earth?”

31 “On this account I say to YOU, Every sort of sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the spirit will not be forgiven. 32 For example, whoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the holy spirit, it will not be forgiven him, no, not in this system of things nor in that to come.

Because Paul is talking about saying it sincerely, while Jesus is talking about those who say it insincerely. It's not rocket science, champ.

Paul was wrong. Your reasoning is sound.
