Ezekiel 23:20

20 There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.

Several people have already stated how important it is to read the actual Scriptures themselves. They're absolutely right. You can read bits and pieces, but that's really like taking a snack or a sample, when you could enjoy the meat of the Word of God.

May I share a couple of suggestions? One, if you like to have print in hand, check out this website, World Missionary Press, http://www.wmpress.org They have selections of verses related to various topics. Their booklets are "Help From Above", "How to Know God", "The Way to God", and many others. Some you can read online and I think--but I'm not sure--you can download some of these. At any rate, you could ask for a sample pack at a very reasonable cost.

Another suggestion, if you prefer to read on-line, is visit and even bookmark sites like Blue Letter Bible, http://www.blueletterbible.org or http://bible.crosswalk.com or http://www.ccel.org Each of these have multiple translations and several different search tools where you can type in a word or phrase and go for deeper study. I can vouch for all three of these sites--they're among my favorites!

Here's another thought: maybe get a set of narrated Scriptures on tape or CD? Several people have recited the Bible (Steven Johnson, Max McLean, Alexander Scourby, and others) and if nothing else, you can listen in the car or at the computer or whatever.

Finally, as some have also said, why not try a parallel edition of a print New Testament, or a version using more current language? I use the New American Standard Version (NASB), but the New International Version (NIV), English Standard Version (ESV), and the Modern Language Bible are all good. Some folks like Eugene Peterson's version called "The Message" but I am not too familiar with it. The important thing is to get a version of the Bible you understand, then set out to study it! God bless you in your study and thanks for asking a very important question.

i'm not anti-christianity, besides the shown fact that it should be reported, once you ask a question like that- you are able to by no ability fairly discover an answer, the Bible itself is a mix of cherrypicked scriptures, and denominations have such differing perspectives, i.e. A roman catholic is extra probable to be adverse to homosexuality then an Anglican or a Methodist, as you will see that from the Pope's impressive and (diffused) comments ;)

I would suggest grabbing an easy-to-read version of the New Testament. Maybe the New International Version. Read a small book, like Colossians or one of the Peters.

Matthew 6:25-27 (New International Version)

25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 1 John 4:7-12

I agree with April. I know this won't help you much at this very second, but I found that praying for help to understand what I was reading was really helpful, and reading it frequently will help because you will begin to understand the language of the time. It will gradually make more and more sense. Also, it's great to have scripture verses to refer to, but the scriptures are stories meant to be read completely. To understand a certain verse's real meaning, you need to read what is said before and after that one verse.

John 3:16. Stop and think what it would be like to have a perfect son who you allowed to sacrifice His life to atone for those of us who are imperfect. Also realize that no one TOOK Christ's life from Him. He had to the power to strike down all of those who crucified Him. He GAVE His life because He knew that's the only way each of us would have a chance to return to Heaven.

In response to Mr. T and the scriptures he so feverishly accumulated. The standard of holiness for God's nation Israel was a high one, but the standard is still there. We, too, all die in our sin. Game over. Thankfully, through Christ, we have a way of salvation. God gives you grace every day in not taking your life, Mr. T, or my life, for that matter. Since when do we, sinners, deserve pardon when we sin. We have gotten so used to receiving it that we expect it. When God judges, we cry out that it is too harsh, but really this is a complaint that God must give us a second chance. Does He? No. Thankfully, He does over and over and over again. The verses are true and God mandated Israel to follow a high standard. The standard is still there, but Christ has fulfilled it so we don't have to. If you read the old testament you find many instances of God's judgment and His 'bend over backward' forgiveness. Both are true. As far as a brother marrying a widow to continue the family line through her, this is an act of mercy and goodwill. You are twisting it to justify yourself. Self justification does not work on judgment day, Christ justification does.

You might start by reading Matthew and then continue on from there.

If the King James version is hard for you to understand you can go to biblegateway.com and read the New Living Translation (or any othere translation you choose)

Psalms 91

hello,

Romans 5:1 THEREFORE, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Rom 5:2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Rom 5:3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;

Rom 5:4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope.

Rom 5:5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Rom 5:6 [[[For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly]]

Rom 5:7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die.

Rom 5:8 [[[But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.]]]

There are topical Bibles that make it much simpler to find what you are looking for. It's not that I mind giving verses... but NOTHING substitutes reading it for yourself. In fact, it's very difficult to understand the full context of any of the verse without reading and studying it everyday.

There are far too many conflicting ideas about what the Bible teaches, to rely on heresay. The very best way to learn about God & His Word, is to research it yourself. Too hard, you are thinking. But, there are many who hve researched it thoroughly, & who have written extremely helpful articles about it--including all kinds of references, grouping Scriptures about dcertain subjects in particular articles or chapters...

Take a 'look-see', and see if what I've described isn't accurate, indeed: (:

These are some very deep scriptures that mean so much to me. I hope they reach you also and you enjoy, and apply them!

Psalms 37: 8 - 13:

Let anger alone and leave rage; Do not show yourself heated up only to do evil. For evildoers themselves will be cut off, But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth. And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more; And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be. But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace. The wicked one is plotting against the righteous one, And at him he is grinding his teeth. Jehovah himself will laugh at him, For he certainly sees that his day will come.

James 1: 12 - 15:

Happy is the man that keeps on enduring trial, because on becoming approved he will receive the crown of life, which Jehovah promised to those who continue loving him. When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.” For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone. But each one is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his own desire. Then the desire, when it has become fertile, gives birth to sin; in turn, sin, when it has been accomplished, brings forth death.

2 Peter 3: 3 - 10:

For YOU know this first, that in the last days there will come ridiculers with their ridicule, proceeding according to their own desires and saying: “Where is this promised presence of his? Why, from the day our forefathers fell asleep [in death], all things are continuing exactly as from creation’s beginning.” For, according to their wish, this fact escapes their notice, that there were heavens from of old and an earth standing compactly out of water and in the midst of water by the word of God; and by those [means] the world of that time suffered destruction when it was deluged with water. But by the same word the heavens and the earth that are now are stored up for fire and are being reserved to the day of judgment and of destruction of the ungodly men.

However, let this one fact not be escaping YOUR notice, beloved ones, that one day is with Jehovah as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day. Jehovah is not slow respecting his promise, as some people consider slowness, but he is patient with YOU because he does not desire any to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance. Yet Jehovah’s day will come as a thief...

Galatians 5: 17 - 26:

For the flesh is against the spirit in its desire, and the spirit against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, so that the very things that YOU would like to do YOU do not do. Furthermore, if YOU are being led by spirit, YOU are not under law.

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, and they are fornication, uncleanness, loose conduct, idolatry, practice of spiritism, enmities, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, contentions, divisions, sects, envies, drunken bouts, revelries, and things like these. As to these things I am forewarning YOU, the same way as I did forewarn YOU, that those who practice such things will not inherit God’s kingdom.

On the other hand, the fruitage of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. Moreover, those who belong to Christ Jesus impaled the flesh together with its passions and desires. If we are living by spirit, let us go on walking orderly also by spirit. Let us not become egotistical, stirring up competition with one another, envying one another.

Those are some of my favorites that I live by. God Bless.

Let's start with Genesis:

Because God liked Abel's animal sacrifice more than Cain's vegetables, Cain kills his brother Abel in a fit of religious jealousy. 4:8

God is angry. He decides to destroy all humans, beasts, creeping things, fowls, and "all flesh wherein there is breath of life." He plans to drown them all. 6:7, 17

God repeats his intention to kill "every living substance ... from off the face of the earth." But why does God kill all the innocent animals? What had they done to deserve his wrath? It seems God never gets his fill of tormenting animals. 7:4

God drowns everything that breathes air. From newborn babies to koala bears -- all creatures great and small, the Lord God drowned them all. 7:21-23

God sends a plague on the Pharaoh and his household because the Pharaoh believed Abram's lie. 12:17

God tells Abram to kill some animals for him. The needless slaughter makes God feel better. 15:9-10

Hagar conceives, making Sarai jealous. Abram tells Sarai to do to Hagar whatever she wants. "And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled." 16:6

"I will not destroy it for ten's sake."

I guess God couldn't find even ten good Sodomites because he decides to kill them all in Genesis 19. Too bad Abraham didn't ask God about the children. Why not save them? If Abraham could find 10 good children, toddlers, infants, or babies, would God spare the city? Apparently not. God doesn't give a damn about children. 18:32

Lot refuses to give up his angels to the perverted mob, offering his two "virgin daughters" instead. He tells the bunch of angel rapers to "do unto them [his daughters] as is good in your eyes." This is the same man that is called "just" and "righteous" in 2 Peter 2:7-8. 19:7-8

God kills everyone (men, women, children, infants, newborns) in Sodom and Gomorrah by raining "fire and brimstone from the Lord out of heaven." Well, almost everyone -- he spares the "just and righteous" Lot and his family. 19:24

Lot's nameless wife looks back, and God turns her into a pillar of salt. 19:26

God threatens to kill Abimelech and his people for believing Abe's lie. 20:3-7

Sarai tells Abraham to "cast out this bondwoman and her son." God commands him to "hearken unto her voice." So Abraham abandons Hagar and Ishmael, casting them out into the wilderness to die. 21:10-14

God orders Abraham to kill Isaac as a burnt offering. Abraham shows his love for God by his willingness to murder his son. But finally, just before Isaac's throat is slit, God provides a goat to kill instead. 22:2-13

Abraham shows his willingness to kill his son for God. Only an evil God would ask a father to do that; only a bad father would be willing to do it. 22:10

Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, is "defiled" by a man who seems to love her dearly. Her brothers trick all of the men of the town and kill them (after first having them all circumcised), and then take their wives and children captive. 34:1-31

# "The terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them." 35:5

"And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord slew him." What did Er do to elicit God's wrath? The Bible doesn't say. Maybe he picked up some sticks on Saturday. 38:7

After God killed Er, Judah tells Onan to "go in unto they brother's wife." But "Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and ... when he went in unto his brother's wife ... he spilled it on the ground.... And the thing which he did displeased the Lord; wherefore he slew him also." This lovely Bible story is seldom read in Sunday School, but it is the basis of many Christian doctrines, including the condemnation of both masturbation and birth control. 38:8-10

After Judah pays Tamar for her services, he is told that she "played the harlot" and "is with child by whoredom." When Judah hears this, he says, "Bring her forth, and let her be burnt." 38:24

Joseph interprets the baker's dream. He says that the pharaoh will cut off the baker's head, and hang his headless body on a tree for the birds to eat. 40:19

Let's face it - not everything in the Bible is all roses and happy faces. If you want to study it then study ALL of it.

DEUTERONOMY 22:13-21

If it is discovered that a bride is not a virgin, the Bible demands that she be executed by stoning immediately.

DEUTERONOMY 22:22

If a married person has sex with someone else's husband or wife, the Bible commands that both adulterers be stoned to death.

MARK 10:1-12

Divorce is strictly forbidden in both Testaments, as is remarriage of anyone who has been divorced.

LEVITICUS 18:19

The Bible forbids a married couple from having sexual intercourse during a woman's period. If they disobey, both shall be executed.

MARK 12:18-27

If a man dies childless, his widow is ordered by biblical law to have intercourse with each of his brothers in turn until she bears her deceased husband a male heir.

DEUTERONOMY 25:11-12

If a man gets into a fight with another man and his wife seeks to rescue her husband by grabbing the enemy's genitals, her hand shall be cut off and no pity shall be shown her.

Read Genesis and find out it's a God of vengeance, rage, remorse, spite, cruelty, and disgust.

Love was added by John who was basically a ding-a-ling. God never claimed to be a God of love.
