Question:
Why do atheists claim that God isn't real--when they're having a difficult time in proven their claim?

Atheists are making the claim saying that God isn't real; therefore, the burden of proof is on them making the claim about God not being real.

without some faith they are showing their ignorance

You obviously are having a hard time understanding what "burden of proof" means.

It means the burden of proof is on the one making the positive claim, because negative claims logically cannot be proven. Positive claims can only be proven... or disproven. And we can't disprove it until all those claiming that gods do exist present some objective tangible evidence or proof.

Like theists - all atheists like myself can do since there is no actual evidence or proof is to present or opinions and the reason for having them.

How silly and naive!!

Are you blind? Just ignoring the proof in the hope it will go away?

Academia states that in the absence of proof of the existence of something it must be deemed not to exist until verifiable proof is found - thus god is held not to exist pending some sort of verifiable evidence.

There is not one single mention of Jesus in the entire Roman record - that is right - not one!!! At the same time as he was supposed to have been around there were a number of Jews claiming to be the messiah - all of whom are well recorded!!

There is not a single contemporary record from any source and even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!!

He was supposed to have been a huge problem to the Romans and produced wonderful miracles but still not one contemporary record?

Even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!!

Pilate is recorded in the Roman record as a somewhat lack luster man but no mention of a Jesus, a trial or crucifixion that would surely have been used to make him look brighter!!

At best he was an amalgam of those others!!

The Roman Emperor Constantine produced the bible and he was a pagan not god!!! He also organized Christianity into the Holly Roman Catholic Church!! Not in Israel or any of the countries of supposed origin but entirely ITALIAN!!

Not one word of it is contemporary with the period and was not written until several hundred years after the period the story is set in!! How did the apostles write their books more than a hundred years after they would have been dead?

What a wonder full disinformation and deception campaign he waged against his Christian enemies - so good in fact that Christians are still following the deception to this day!!!

The first person to provide a shred of verifiable evidence for God will become world famous and mega rich!! Ain't happened yet and it never will!!

So how does this primitive belief survive? The answer is simple and very down to Earth!!

Acceptance of a supernatural claim tends to promote cooperative social relationships. This communication demonstrates a willingness to accept, without skepticism, the influence of the speaker in a way similar to a child's acceptance of the influence of a parent. By encouraging this kind of behavior where the most intense social relationships occur it facilitates the lack of skepticism and deters more open minded thinking.

They are christian, Muslim or the other religions depending where they were born simply because they were indoctrinated by their parents as very young children. They will go on to indoctrinate their own children and those will go on to indoctrinate their grandchildren!!

Atheists have the intellect to see through the conditioning and escape into the real world!!

Agnostics have the intellect to see through the conditioning but lack the courage to throw of the conditioning entirely.

Sadly Christians are still held firmly prisoner by the self perpetuating brainwashing!!

And stop trying to reverse the burden - “Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence" - carl sagan.

I'm an atheist. It's not difficult to prove at all. I find it hard to believe there is some giant person in the sky that was always there, when it's easier to believe that the universe was here the whole time.

I used to be a Christian, but found being an atheist is much easier to believe, and it makes more sense to me.

But then Christians would rely on "Proof by Lack of Evidence" which is a logical fallacy.

Neither side can "prove" per se, their point of view. At some point you must believe in something, whether God, or something else, to answer whether we exist, don't exist, have senses...Which we cannot prove are correct or incorrect. Even the great saying, "I think, therefore I am." can be stated as a mis-defining "being"(am, is a state of being)

Both sides must argue in this case, in many cases, the person making the claim has to argue the point.

Enjoy.

Theists say that a god or gods exist. Atheists say we won't believe your assertion without proof. In the absence of evidence, disbelief is the default position.

Nothing real requires faith.

No, no, my friend. One cannot prove a negative. If one makes a claim of the extraordinary (i.e., there is a god), the burden of proof falls on him who makes the claim. I make no extraordinary claim, thus, no burden of proof falls on me. You make the claim, you show the proof.

And no, the bible is not proof.

Two fails in one.

1) We're not the ones making a claim. We're asking YOU, the theist, to prove to us that god exists; until then, we withhold belief. I have never, ever said that god definitely does not or can not exists, because I know that I can't prove that position. Instead, I am skeptical of YOUR claims.

2) Burden of proof rests on the shoulders of the positive claimant, meaning the person who is stating that something exists. It is impossible to prove a negative, as you would need to be omnipotent in order to do so. It is illogical to expect people to have to disprove something just because you claim it is so. It's up to YOU to prove that god exists, son.

If I said that I had an invisible purple monkey in my closet, would it be fair to expect you to disprove it? Is it not on me to prove to you that it exists?
2010-01-06 03:59:18 UTC
No matter how you say it; they are simply saying they do not believe you.... the claim that God exist had to have been made first for someone to not believe it... Why should they have to prove a claim of not believing your claim...

I do not claim that gods are not real. They just don't exist.
2010-01-06 03:58:20 UTC
All we have to do is say there is no evidence that can act as a basis God's existence (absolutely true). Untill that can be refuted, there is nothing more to talk about.

All the time you say that. All the goddamn time.

Look. You're asserting that there is a god. You have nothing backing yourself up. You have a lot more to do.

Even if "GOD" is "real" why the hell should I "pray" to him??????? Never has/never will make sense to me why people are religious?? I guess because their parents were, huh?
2010-01-06 03:59:00 UTC
Yesterday, I finally proved conclusively that there are no gods of any type.

If you don't believe me, it's up to you to prove I didn't.
2010-01-06 04:00:45 UTC
are you saying that all gods are real?? and there is more than one god??
2010-01-06 03:57:19 UTC
Fail? Let's turn this around... subspace! There's an underverse inside our universe, and you can tear holes in our universe to reach it. Prove it doesn't exist.

Prove he IS real then. Go on. We'll be waiting. And waiting. And waiting...

They argue that the don't have to prove their claim -- we do. It's kind of like a little kid saying, "Is not. Prove it! Prove it!" over and over again as if his much saying resolves the question.

God, on the other hand, is under no obligation to prove Himself to anyone, least of all to one who openly despises Him. I try not to argue God's existence with anyone, but will take a firm stand when I hear or see ordinary Christianity and basic Christian theology being misrepresented.

The basic proof is in the Resurrection of Jesus and the unparalleled historicity of the New Testament record.

Ontological proofs also hold up well, especially Anselm's Rule.
