Has the state become a church and teaching us our morals? In Maryland State broad said that they will teach our children an alternative lifestyle and the parents had nothing to say about it because they were not listen to and told them if they say anything against it they would be taken care of-or something like that. So how do you feel about the state acting like a church to teach morals?

All laws represent morals. Morals represent religion and are legislated through politics. Therefore, the question is not "Can we legislate morality?" Rather, the question is "Whose morality are we going to legislate?" All State laws represent SOMEONE'S morality. Do we want to be Sodom and Gomorrah, or do we want to be a "Shining City on a Hill?"

Whether you agree with the politics/religion/morality of Adolph Hitler, Dr. Martin Luther King, or Reverend Billy Graham, you will either vote your religion or lack of it.

This situation is a perfect example of how we get all mixed up in society without having Godly men in government. I have not researched the situation in Maryland, and I do not need to take the lid off a sewer to know it stinks.

I can tell you that my wife and I Homeschool our own children, and my children know that homosexuality is a perversion and an abomination to God. Homeschooling is legal in all 50 states. For more info, you can check out Home School Legal Defense Association at http://hslda.org

Moral behavior is not an exclusive religious based belief.

Religion is part of our culture, to teach otherwise is to try to subvert our own culture.

I think your statement/question, though, is not quite accurate as to the facts in Maryland.

But, still, a recent poll showed that 66% of Americans want Creationism taught in our Public schools. And, btw, the Amish have public schools that are open to anyone. They teach the Amish culture and Amish religious beliefs. So if an area of of country is 98% Christian, then why should the public schools in that area not teach Christianity?

The tiny minority in the USA has bastarditized our bill of rights and the Constitution to a point where they believe that only the minority should have anything to say. ABSURD.

It seems that you have not understood the Trinity of God. Father in Heaven is God, so do Jesus and Holy Spirit. Father in Heaven is God the Father. Jesus Christ is God the Son. Holy Spirit is God the Spirit. What does this all mean? God have three forms of appearances, yet they are one. This is what we called the Trinity of God. How come? God the Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit have the same power, though their appearances and missions are different. Some people said that God the Father's era is in the Old Testament, then Jesus' era is during the time he born until he reached Heaven, and Holy Spirit's era is from the book of Acts until the end of the world. Is it true? Not at all! This is absolutely false. Read Genesis and you will find that God the Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit are there even before the world was created, then they planned to create the world together. May God give you personal understanding about Him.

The problem with teaching morals (so called character education) is that the state cannot put forward any moral authority. Why be honest? Why be kind? Why be good? The answer the school system gives is those types of behaviors will make you feel good and the schools give out certificates and all sorts of praise to reinforce the good feelings. The school's objective is to associate good behavior with feel-good rewards.

Is feel-goodism an acceptable basis for morality? Obvioulsy not.

Organized religion has NEVER been successful at teaching morals. The Old Testament is one long horror story full of murder, incest, debauchery, and hate. It wasn't until Christ came along that there was any positive reinforcement to the book at all. And he didn't even write any of it, it's all second-hand accounts. There are the Dead Sea Scrolls, but most churches consider that to be heretic apocrypha.

Someone once said of religion: ' There's enough religion in the world to make men hate one another, but not enough to make them love. '

Maybe schools ought to start teaching world religions like Buddhism or Shintoism, though i,m not altogether certain that even THAT would make a difference. The majority of people suck.

What did they do, mention homosexuality? So what, there *are* homosexuals. If some fringe group opposes the major rivers of South America, should schools therefore stop teaching kids about the Amazon?

I think it would be better if schools went back to being schools.

Teach reading, writing, mathematics, history.Leave moral education for the home, and that way there won't be problems about teaching students alternate lifestyles.Just my opinion.
