I note an absence of biblical verses directly supporting "revival".

There are 'religious' groups that appear to be against a 'renewing' of the message of Christ Jesus in a congregation.

This may be a mistake.

This verse is from Titus 3:5

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;"

_

Actually Titus is a good example of of restoration of a church that has wandered from the Way. Paul sent Titus then Artemus. The two were obviously Christian brothers that were able to deal with a church gone astray.

-

To renew, enliven, revive, remind are all aspects of edification. The process of growth through teaching is part of Christianity.

-

John 14:26

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

_

The apostles were given this gift as are Christians that are anointed with the Holy Spirit. Every meeting between Christians where there are two or more is a revival, a renewing, a remembrance of our Lord and Savior and His Kingdom Restored.

_______

On occasion a powerful and dynamic man or woman of God comes forth reminding and reawakening Christians that perhaps have not strayed as the Cretians but have slacked in bringing the gospel to the whole world.

_

Many of Paul's letters were accompanied by a fellow Christian that edified the congregation as a whole. Paul mentions many Christian men and women filled with the Holy Spirit by name.

-

Congregations also can get led down a path by New Age ear-tickling and idealism and ignorance of the pastor or church leaders. Perhaps the elders that are supposed to keep the Way alive have fallen ill or become weak or need support. All of these things are considered reviving.

Revival can also mean to give life. Christians give life to those who are dead through gospel.

Jesus is Life. By showing others Jesus a Christian does the work assigned by Christ Jesus.

Those that have been lost by sin living in the flesh is to be separate from God. Only through the reconciliation and redemption of Jesus is a person given life, quickened, revived.

According to Funk & Wagnalls New International Dictionary the definition of "revile or reviler" is the following:

(that is if I understand yr question)

To take delight; indulge freely in his freedom. To make or engage in boisterous and noisy festivities.

The scriptures mean even more in excess.

A scripture:

'But now I am writing you to quit mixing in company with anyone called a brother that is a fornicator or a greedy person or an idolaters or a reviler or a drunkard or an extortioner, nor even eating with such a man...Remove the wicked man from among yourselves.' 1 Corinthians 5:11,13

And there are other scriptures if you want to email me.

Hello sister:)

Over the time we tend to see revival as a big happening, something huge, but over the years, the precious realization that revival is something more down to earth, even daily, has truly ' revived " me.

Where I meet, we go through a bible devotional each morning. Interestingly enough, its called' The Holy Word for Morning Revival"

Each morning, we need to be revived, restored, renewed by the Lord. Yesterday's manna cannot do for today. We need each days' supply to nourish, sustain and enliven us as we journey onwards.

When we awaken each day, we should come to the Lord in a simple way, and open to Him in prayer, with a song as we enter into the Word to be revived by Him. To me, this is the healthy way for a normal christian to live. If we seek the big revivals, with a big speaker, under big circumstances ( not that this is not also a way for the Lord to draw us back to Himself) but then AFTER this revival, we need to live in a normal healthy way before the Lord.. BY being revived by Him in the Word, in prayer each morning.

Psalm 5:3

In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.

He will restore to us, all the years that that satan has devoured. I gain so much encouragement from this verse in Joel 2.

25 And I will restore to you the years That the swarming locust has eaten, The licking locust and the consuming locust and the cutting locust, My great army That I sent among you.

As a Pattern to us, the Lord Jesus had His times with ther Father early in the morning, before the world pressed its way in. May we be strengthened to pick up this habit as well.

Mark 1:35

And rising very early in the morning, while it was still night, He went out and went away to a deserted place, and there He prayed.

A revival is when a traveling group of people set up a tent with chairs and a podium. They talk about your need to repent and play music. Then they pass the collection plate to see how well this group is working out. If they make enough money, they'll stay for days or weeks as long as they are making money.

Then when people quit throwing their money away, they pack up and hit the road for the next group to dupe.

We've got one going on right down the street. They are nothing but thieves.

KJV: I Peter 4:8. And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

Regeneration of a Previously Alive belief in God that has become less than alive by whatever degree or comparison.

EDIT: A Nonbeliever would not be revived !

Revival is awakening a dead fellowship. Or revitalizing one. I think it is the most tragic of terms for fellowships. It has been used for so long that people don't even realize what they are saying. I.E. Holy Spirit party.
