Question:
What Religion.. Am I A Bad Person?
2008-11-05 16:47:55 UTC
From birth I was never christened or taken too church and I'm 17 and still have never been to church - for religious purposes. But now im starting too think about religion but am I a bad person? I blaspheme and i suppose i have done some 'bad' things in my life... does this mean I'm doomed and going to hell? Or is there a way of forgiveness? And to be religious do I need to go to church? Im confused...I was never brought up in a religious family so any information would be geatly helpful.. Thanks

Oh, sweetie, you do indeed sound confused!!

The fact that you are even posing that question and at such a young age, shows that you are a good person; certainly not a bad one!

What you need to do is to get to know what your Creator wants and how to do that is to get to read the bible.

Hell is not an actual place; it is a Hebrew word for the common grave of mankind. So, when we die, we go back to the ground; nothing; non-existance.

That in itself probably sound horrible to you, but did you know that our Creator does not want His Creation to die? No, He wants us to live for ever on this very earth, but in perfection. How does that sound to you?

We are urged to meet together for an interchange of encouragement.

I happen to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses and I felt very much like you before I became one!

Honestly, if you were to go into our official site: www.watchtower.org, I can guarantee that you will find all the information you could wish for.

I realise that many people will say the same thing about their religion, but the point is, there is only One Word of God, so if you were to pick up your bible and then compare what religions around you are teaching, you will find very quickly that it is our organisation that adheres to the teachings!

All I say is, check out our website. The rest is up to you, but I do so hope you choose to investigate further.

You sound like a normal 17 year old. You are not a bad person based on whether you go to a church or not. Some people really believe that people that don't believe as them are going to hell. What a horrible way to live. Those people mean well, but they don't have any facts behind their message. They can't help it, most of them have been told this their entire life and can't imagine their life without these beliefs. Just try and be polite to them and tell them that your beliefs are personal. If religion is new to you, I'd suggest doing some searching online into the history of religions. One doesn't need to believe in some specific God to be a good person and have a fulfilling life. Just be the best you can be.

There is a Bible verse that says "no sin has befallen you but what is common to mankind." It's not a matter of whether you are a "bad" person verses being a "good" person. At best, some of us do good, we none of us is good. Not really. It is a matter of first of all, do you know God? And if you do know Him, you wouldn't want to do anything to hurt Him. Just as if you fell in love with someone, or loved your Mother and she was real sensitive, you'd not want to hurt either one of them. We are all sinners. And any Church that thinks they are no longer sinners isn't real Christian's. Don't mess with them. Skip the whole issue of religion. Cuz you'd have to ask someone some question just like you're asking us here. And out of the answers you have to pick which one to believe. If you know God, you get the truth every time. And at best, humans make mistakes sometimes. God is the only One who can tell you, knowing all the Churches where you live, if or when you should go to, or visit, one of them. Or belong to one or not. There are also a lot of home fellowships too. The point is to get connected with others who trust in God too. His Word came to the earth transformed into a real live human being-his name was Jesus (or Yeshua if you're Hebrew) and he not only died but was raised back to alive. And that same guy is still speaking for God as His Word just like he did before. Since he is a whole person now, you can even speak to him. He will hear, and answer.

First off you are very young, and while you are just starting to feel that you need religion, you have a lot of paths to consider, none of which are the right one, nor of the wrong one. In my eyes, we all praise the same being.

If you feel you need to go to church then do. You won't go to hell because your 17 and just started going. Read up on religions that feel suit you, and that you feel you belong too. There are literally hundred's of religions if you look through out the whole world, and I am sure one would suit you.

Whatever path you choose, I wish you the best and blessed be.

Nope. Don't think he'll burn in hell. My family believed in that sort of thinking, that the tiniest, most atomic level of sin was going to put you to Hell, that you DESERVED it...and that's when they weren't preaching Predestination. I was a Lutheran, now I'm a polytheist on account of their negativity, among other things. We are all human beings. We are not superhuman, nor deities. We are going to make mistakes, sometimes unintentionally, and sadly, sometimes intentionally. If God did make us the way some folks say he did, then he certainly made us to be flawed and isn't going to make us burn for small mistakes like drinking alcohol or eating the wrong thing. The big man's got bigger things to worry about than what a person eats, drinks, wears, or does in the bedroom.

Your consciousness proves that you are not a bad person. Without the concept of god, a person with his or her own understanding can be better human. A human possesses brain to understan, analyse, observe & differentiate the things. If you believe in yourself and always go for good and right things, you are much better than some relegious persons who go to church but practically are not fair.

The only Hell I know is the dirt in the ground. The original Hebrew translation of Hell. Do some research on it. Flaming pits and pitchforks isn't all there is. If you feel like bettering yourself, then go ahead. Make yourself happy in anyway that pleases you most.

Religion is a lie, so you are lucky you weren't brought up with it. There's no such thing as hell, that's what the homophobic catholic church use to scare gay people & stop people doing bad things. Didn't really work for them though did it. Another thing about Christianity: why are so many priests being outed as perverts? Makes you think doesn't it?

No hell no. The power that runs the universe runs thru every single one of us regardless of our beliefs or faith that we may have been brought up with.

The answer will always come from within.

The only immoral actions are those which hurt others.

Religion itself is immoral, given all the harm it's done and continues to do.

You've never been indoctrinated - count yourself lucky.

you don't need to be "religious" or go to church to be a good person.

At judgement day, you, & only you will judge yourself.

Do YOU think you are a good person?

Who is anyone else to say otherwise.
