Question:
My parents think I should be baptized as a Catholic, but I don't want to be a Catholic. What should I do?
2009-07-23 18:14:24 UTC
I am 17 and my mom wants me to be baptized into the Catholic Church, but I don't want to be, for several reasons.

1) I don't like the Pope's authority and believe the current one is a Nazi.
2) I am a WASP, not a Catholic. My grandfather and my other forefathers were all Protestant. I descend from English nobility and royalty. My blood is English and Scotch-Irish, not Irish Catholic, Italian, or anything of the sort.
3) I don't believe that I should be Catholic because Catholicism is a religion of poor people, the religion of immigrants who were treated like garbage when they came to America, and is the religion of most illegal immigrants now. I don't want to associate with lower-class people. I am a cousin of the Rockefellers, the richest family in history.

Britain and British Royalty used to be Catholic

and many of today's British nobility are Catholics

You obviously do not know much about Catholicism and you need to learn if your parent is becoming or is Catholic

Try getting The Catechism of the Catholic Church

and reading it

The Pope is not and never was a Nazi

nor has he ever sympathized with Nazism but was forced(as all children in Germany were) to join Hitler Youth and to be drafted into its army at the end of the War as were most youth

You should not present yourself for Baptism into the Church since you have no faith in Catholic Christianity

In fact, rather than being forced to join, the church authorities would reject any "application to enter" from you

but RCIA might be useful for you(since one need not intend to be baptized to go to the instruction classes)

Do not get baptized until you mean it and the commitment to Christ and His Church and its teachings that adult baptism and teen Confirmation demand

Congrats. I'm Related to Bing Crosby and Pocahontas.

Catholicism is the Original Christian denomination.

Since you're so obsessed with the religion of Celebrities, here is a list of Famous Catholics.

You seem conceited. P.S. the Rockefellers were not the richest family in History.

OK although im catholic and i don't agree with your views i will tell you that being baptized catholic doesn't make you a catholic , it simply means you have been baptized in christ ...catholics have several things we go through before we have to make the decision weather we want to stick with Catholicism or not ...1st we get baptized in christ ..then we make our first holy communion ...then when we hit a age that we can make the decision our self we get our conformation ... being comfirmed means that you have made up your mind and you wanna confirm that you will be catholic ....so if you get baptized it will only mean that you are baptized into Christianity

>>I am a WASP, not a Catholic. My grandfather and my other forefathers were all Protestant. I descend from English nobility and royalty.<<

This is historically inaccurate. Until Henry VIII, English royalty were Catholic.

And, BTW, almost everyone of European ancestry is descended from English royalty.

If you don't get over this bragging and better than thou attitude, It will not do you any good to be baptized. To be baptized, you have to die to self and Son you seem to have a long way to go there.

Being a Christian, the first thing you learn is to help the poor, to visit those in prison, to give charity to the widows, to help those who cannot help themselves. In your current way of thinking, they are not worthy of you.

Get your heart right first, learn some humility, and stop thinking about religion and think about obtaining a personal relationship with God. You don't know the one whose body you are being baptized into, and I doubt you will come up a new person.

You need to read your Bible and learn of Jesus. He was not rich, in fact he was a carpenter's son, he was not boastful or arrogant. Read about him and learn of him. Then try to pattern your life after him. When you are ready, then get baptized.

Go to Christianity, Protestant! It is the one TRUE religion, and it is close to Catholic so your mom won't be too upset. Christianity is free.... no begging the pope for anything, its all free! One simple prayer to God is all you need to do to get a reserved spot in heaven. No matter what kind of person you are, rich or poor, it is awesome! Anyway, if you truely believe in a religion, it shouldn't matter who your cousin is or who you are a cousin to, because only what you believe should count. You need to be more into it, more devoted to understand. Its like your on the outskirts. But God is like the one hovering over the mountain top while your falling down the cliff, and all you need to do is accept the hand to live and be free. Its so simple. I hope you consider this.

God bless you and your family!

VANITY - Or vainglory, an inordinate desire to manifest one's own excellence. It differs from pride, which is the uncontrolled esrie for self-esteem, in that vanity primarily seeks to shw others what a person has or has achieved. A vain person looks for praise from others and may go to great lengths ot obtain it. More commonly, vanity is associated with an exaggerated importance attached to multiple details, especially external appearances, which in no way contain the value attributed to them. It is ostentation in fashion, wealth, or power regarded as an occasion of empty pride. thus where pride, though sinful, may have some foundation in fact for whatever one prides oneself on being or having done, vanity is the idle effort to obtain recognition or respect for what a person does not have a rightful claim to. Vanity is attributed to shams, which lack substance and are deceitful (like human praise); or to things without solidity and permanence (such as physical beauty); or to means that fail in their purpose (such as vaunting one's own reputation). It is an inflated pride and, as such, is venially sinful.

Didn't you just post this an hour ago?

You're old enough to make your own religious convictions. Stick to your guns. Don't let people force their religion on you, even if it's family.

1. The current Pope is not a Nazi

2. Who cares if you're descend from England?

3. Happy are those who are poor, for theirs is the kingdom of God.

Actually in Holland back in the day the Catholics were rich and the Protestants were dirt poor and treated like garbage.

You don't chose a religion based on any of the things that you listed.

You chose a religion based on your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

BTW

When Jesus died on the Cross, He did it for trolls and Rockefellers alike. He sees everyone the same.

If you were related to the Rockefellers, you'd know that they are not the richest family in history.

Troll or not though, you've got some serious mixed-up priorities.

I was baptised as a catholic in 4rth grade, lol it's got nothing to do with age. Wasn't Jesus baptised at like 34?

Anyways, who cares? if you don't wanna do it, just say NO. They can't FORCE you to have some water spalshed on your forehead by a priest.

But you could do it just for kicks and get more presents at chrismas :D
2009-07-23 18:21:43 UTC
well La'de'dah.... your immaturity is showing... grow up a bit and you will see just how much you are not what you think you are... but... that said... tell the priest exactly what you posted here... no honest priest will baptize you... problem solved...except how to live with you low class peasant parents...

first off you are rude,

catholicism is not bad just because poor people believe in it, its just a religion that was popularized in rural countries

2nd. just tell them NO plain and simple, you have no obligation to follow the religion your parents or other families do.

Get baptised, try what she tells you, if it does not change you inside, then you know it's a fake......

Remain as you are on the inside and keep searching for the answer. " He that seeks finds."

In my opinion, the Catholic faith is more about interpretation of the Bible instead of taking it at face value. Very scary to me!!!
