There are many, many “reasons” for anti-Semitism, none of which are logical. It boils down to ignorance, bigotry, and fear of those who are “different.”

Medieval Christianity portrays the Jews as a cunning, scheming, diabolical bunch who are capable of rejecting Jesus although deep down, in their heart of hearts, they believe in him and have conspired to make sure that every other Jew rejects him. Only the Devil is capable of this dastardly deed. In other words, although the Devil knows the truth and believes in God, he rejects Him and seduces others to do the same. This personification of the Jew as the Devil (John 8:44) is as old as Christianity itself and things haven’t changed much.

Professor Michael Curtis of Rutgers University:

"Everybody has a people that they hate; a group you don't like, that are threatening you. But the uniqueness of anti-Semitism lies in the fact that no other people in the world have been charged simultaneously with alienation from society and with cosmopolitanism; with being capitalist exploiters and also revolutionary communists; with having a materialistic mentality or being a people of the book. We are accused of being both militant aggressors and cowardly pacifists; adherents to a superstitious religion and agents of modernism. We uphold a rigid law and are also morally decadent. We have a chosen people mentality and an inferior human nature; we are both arrogant and timid; individualist and communally adherent; we are guilty of both the crucifixion of Jesus to Christians and to others we are held to account for the invention of Christianity. Everything and its opposite becomes an explanation for anti-Semitism."

Historians have classified six explanations as to why people hate the Jews:

Economic -- "We hate Jews because they possess too much wealth and power."

Chosen People -- "We hate Jews because they arrogantly claim that they are the chosen people."

Scapegoat -- "Jews are a convenient group to single out and blame for our troubles."

Deicide -- "We hate Jews because they killed Jesus."

Outsiders, -- "We hate Jews because they are different than us." (The dislike of the unlike.)

Racial Theory -- "We hate Jews because they are an inferior race."

As we examine the explanations, we must ask -- Are they the causes for anti-Semitism or excuses for Anti-Semitism? The difference? If one takes away the cause, then anti-Semitism should no longer exist. If one can show a contradiction to the explanation, it demonstrates that the "cause" is not a reason, it is just an excuse. Let's look at some contradictions:

Economic -- The Jews of 17th- 20th century Poland and Russia were dirt poor, had no influence and yet they were hated.

Chosen People -- a) In the late 19th century, the Jews of Germany denied "Choseness." And then they worked on assimilation. Yet, the holocaust started there. b) Christians and Moslems profess to being the "Chosen people," yet, the world and the anti-Semites tolerate them.

Scapegoat -- Any group must already be hated to be an effective scapegoat. The Scapegoat Theory does not then cause anti-Semitism. Rather, anti-Semitism is what makes the Jews a convenient scapegoat target. Hitler's ranting and ravings would not be taken seriously if he said, "It's the bicycle riders and the midgets who are destroying our society."

Deicide -- a) the Christian Bible says the Romans killed Jesus, though Jews are mentioned as accomplices (claims that Jews killed Jesus came several hundred years later). How come the accomplices are persecuted and there isn't an anti-Roman movement through history? b) Jesus himself said, "Forgive them [i.e., the Jews], for they know not what they do." The Second Vatican Council in 1963 officially exonerated the Jews as the killers of Jesus. Neither statement of Christian belief lessened anti-Semitism.

Outsiders -- With the Enlightenment in the late 18th century, many Jews rushed to assimilate. Anti-Semitism should have stopped. Instead, for example, with the Nazis came the cry, in essence: "We hate you, not because you're different, but because you're trying to become like us! We cannot allow you to infect the Aryan race with your inferior genes."

Racial Theory -- The overriding problem with this theory is that it is self-contradictory: Jews are not a race. Anyone can become a Jew - and members of every race, creed and color in the world have done so at one time or another.

Every other hated group is hated for a relatively defined reason. We Jews, however, are hated in paradoxes: Jews are hated for being a lazy and inferior race - but also for dominating the economy and taking over the world. We are hated for stubbornly maintaining our separateness - and, when we do assimilate - for posing a threat to racial purity through intermarriages. We are seen as pacifists and as warmongers; as capitalist exploiters and as revolutionary communists; possessed of a Chosen-People mentality, a

So far, none of the answers have been any good. Let me give you some of the common reasons:

1. Deicide--people for two thousand years have accused the Jews of killing Jesus, even though it was the Romans and even though this has been repudiated by the Catholic Church.

2. "The other"--Jews have their own customs, ranging from what we can and cannot eat to styles of dress, language (traditionally Hebrew), etc. So it used to be (and to some extent still is) relatively easy to identify someone as Jewish. People have an innate fear of "the other".

3. Ignorance and stupidity. In the Middle Ages, Jews were blamed for poisoning drinking water wells during the Black Plague. Whenever someone doesn't have an explanation for something bad, human nature makes him (or her) blame someone else--"the other"--rather than looking for the real reason. It's just easier.

4. Self-loathing--if you have a low sense of self-esteem, then putting someone else down seems to make you feel better. Again, the Jews, who were easily identified in the Middle Ages, were an easy target.

because they isolated themselves from the rest of society prier to the 20th century. So everyone viewed them as being different.

They also were not allowed to hold certain positions or jobs so they mainly focused lending money. Many people believed that this was dishonest work since they were not able to pay them back (just like how the banks are known as the bad guys today) so they were hated and used as escape goats.

But unfortunately this idea has been integrated in some cultures now.

Economic -- "We hate Jews because they possess too much wealth and power."

Chosen People -- "We hate Jews because they arrogantly claim that they are the chosen people."

Scapegoat -- "Jews are a convenient group to single out and blame for our troubles."

Decide -- "We hate Jews because they killed Jesus."

Outsiders -- "We hate Jews because they are different than us." (The dislike of the unlike.)

Racial Theory -- "We hate Jews because they are an inferior race."

Every other hated group is hated for a relatively defined reason. They are hated for stubbornly maintaining their separateness - and, when they do assimilate - for posing a threat to racial purity through intermarriages. They are seen as pacifists and as warmongers; as capitalist exploiters and as revolutionary communists; possessed of a Chosen-People mentality, as well as of an inferiority complex. It seems that they just can't win.

So there are various reasons for why Jews are hated and they differ from culture to culture. One of the more famous and relevant is the false story of how the Jews killed Jesus, even though historically there is no truth to this. Today anti-semetism is rampant mostly through-ought the Muslim world and is fed by false blood libels and the demonetization of the state of Israel. Anti-semetism is based on irrational and false accusations on how a group of 13 million people claim to take over and corrupt the world. Most cultures who have harbored anti-semetic leanings have done this to scapegoat the Jews as an effort to create a common enemy and blind the masses to the true troubles of the country. In short Jews are hated because they are an easy target and many cultures still have an irrational hate and loathing of Jews from generations past.

you get carry of it incorrect. its not muslims, it particularly is people from palestine that detest jews. Palestine grow to be an MuslimArab/ChristainArab u . s . a .. whilst Jews got here to Palestine, they moved the Arabs away to extremely a small line strip of the country basically. Jews took over the final public of the country and renamed it Israel/replaced the flag to the jewish image. Til on the instant time, Arabs(palestine) and jews nevertheless combat over the land. Palestine does not have something to guard themselves, because jews are nevertheless planing to take the full u . s . a .. so which you won't be in a position to extremely say Muslims hate Jews. you may desire to interrupt it down

I don't hate jews and don't know anyone who does. Many people are ignorent or go along with what others say to fit in. Why don't you ask them why they hate jews and then research for yourself what is fact and what is fiction?

because jews are an easy target these days for ridicule. Unfortunatly nothing has changed much in the last 50 or so years

Hey, why aren't you in school? :)

Anyway, Judaism is the old testament (really called TaNaKh) and its really good and really rational and complex and most people don't bother to understand it.

the first leaders of xtianity and islam put down and falsly ridiculed Judaism, and followers believe it without investigating what Judaism is.

So clever - they took the Jewish scriptures as if it was theirs, don't bother to understand Judaism, ridicule it but use it to support their own beliefs.

new religions always do that. scientology is based on xtianity, islam is based on xtianity, heaven's gate cult was based on revelations/xtianity, mormons are xtians that believe white people originated from outer space and blacks are demons from earth - wacky - but most xtians don't recognize those new religions.

That obvious difference of a new religion that xtianity never intended is the difference between Judaism of the old testament and xtianity.

Judaism used established mythology stories as parables to teach - often mocking the very story it told. xtianity is literal mythology - the two are completely incompatible.

The Jews have been used as a scapegoat for centuries, blamed for everything from lack of jobs to failing economies to wars to plagues. It's jut religious bigotry, plain and simple.

Kids mimic what they hear at home.

There has been prejudice agains tJews since the beginning of Judaeism itself

The reasons are not as important as not letting yourself get sucked into this type of unreasining hate.

You are going to encounter this all your life, prejudice against Jews, agains homosexuality, against people of another race, against anythign people dont understand.

You should learn very early on that all people are basically the same as you and they dont deserve being hated when you odnt even know them.

I don't hate Jews, I see em equal. I have a neighbor who

1) when we moved in, the 4 year old stood outside shouting "My dad Isreal - You crazy" over and over. Where did he learn to hate non Jews?

2) He comes over to intimidate my wife.

3) When our driveway got paved, she immediately came out with a shovel and jabbed many marks in it to ruin it.

4) their son told my son to come over, look close at this board on his lawn, then jumped on the other end to make it hit my son's face

5) Thier home renovation made a huge mess of my place and he refused to clean up.

6) He leans over the fence and cuts my grape vine off.

7) He threatens us

8) He drives his vehicles to the street, then cleans off the snow to block everyone and leaves it there.

Etc and we have never done anything but be helpful.

Why are they hated you ask. Could it be thier own arrogant and abusive behavior.

Not everybody does hate them. Why do people hate full stop? It is usually lack of understanding and poor education and also kids hearing racist or other similar stuff from parents and society.

That's unfortunate :(

But don't worry. The black kid, the Asian, the Muslim/Jew etc. and other stereotypes will occasionally become the target of ignorant bullies. Just learn to stand up to them, or stay away from them.
