How many Christians have examined the historical-critical method in researching Jesus and the gospels?

It seems that anyone who approached the NT with the historical-critical method as opposed to the devotional, would come to the same conclusion as most modern historians. Conclusion: Jesus was a jewish apocalypticist.

Have you taken this approach to biblical research? Do you think this approach is a good approach to understanding Jesus and early christianity?

If not, what approach would you use, aside from blind devotion?

If they did that they would see that their God was clearly an amalgamation of many older Gods and the stories in the Bible were merely copied with no truth to them what so ever. Then they would have to give up their eternal life and they would rather just stay in the dark and blindly believe the myth of Jesus.

I think critical research is very important. I do not come to the same conclusions as "most modern historians." You might want to cite a source for that claim, anyway.

Schmulfer: I challenge you to offer just ONE original source documentation to prove your claim. So far, no one has been able to cite such a source. By original source documentation, I mean an actual writing pre-dating Christianity which would show Jesus was made up based upon pre-existing gods. Oh, and it's no use citing Massey or Acharya S. -- their works are laughable and have huge fallacies and leaps of inference.

I have researched and studied the major religions for over 20 years. Christianity and the documented life of Yeshua are still one of my main focuses.

This is the first time I have ever heard anyone refer to Yeshua as such as you have. Seminary schools for the last 100 years? Did Christ attend or teach at seminary schools? The last 100 years are but a drop compared to the time that has passed since Christ lived.

You are entitled to your beliefs and opinions but you must know that this is not truth. Peace and love be yours.

Yes, I think the historical-critical method is fascinating. There are many religious historical-critical scholars like Gary Wills and Peter Enns. (Technically Gary Wills probably can't be considered a historical-critical scholar himself, but he writes about it in a crazy good way.. and Peter Enns is a genius)

Very few of the people who call themselves Christians read the Bible.

Fewer still think about what they read.

It is an even smaller group that reads Bible research.

The number of people in the world who actually do Biblical research would all fit on a 747.

You don't need a method, you need sources.

Name yours.

(I won't bother to mention the three logical flaws in your analysis, the two judgmental errors, or the lack of information that you didn't notice was lacking.)
