I am facing like 5 years in prison, I am 28, I have thought about killing myself but if I pull through this and get out in my low to mid 30s I can start my automotive business because I own the right equipment and I have good credit now so I can get a business loan to just start it up.

I screwed up it is really depressing and hard to remain positive. I am half way to a black belt through a 9 degree black belt and I want to finish that too in my future even if I have to start over because I enjoy it.

What should I do?

How do I remain positive?

What is prison like?

Besides getting stomach aches all the time from my mild intestinal condition how can I keep my mental positive until getting out?

low 30s is still room to change right?

My sentence is long because I have a previous class c felony for 30 days for being dumb right out of hs before all 4 years of college.

I have a high class well known private attorney my family paid allot of money to help me out with the case so maybe I will get less.

I would surely become Christian, get God's help in this,

or if not Christian, pray anyway.

What's so wonderful (I need to say this), about Christianity is the

real meaning of repentance...if you do it according the the meaning

of that word in the original language, the promise is you

WON'T do it anymore.

The big question is this. How do you know you've 'learned your lesson'?

You have a tendency, and it's there.

It's down now because you got caught, but if you get off,

how do you KNOW you won't do this again, REALLY get caught?

That's why I'd become a Christian, to change my entire life.

You definitely will find Christianity in prison because many

men find Christ there, and many lie, cheat and steal also,

so they do it about Christianity, too.

But not ALL.

You can take courses there, be a big help to others.

Depending on what group you get into you won't necessarily

be sodomized.

I'd pray about that also.

I'd learn to talk in ways that dissuade homosexuals, the 'girls'

who are not nice girls.

I'd learn how to handle intimidation.

Having a mild intestinal condition could help you if you get the

runs or gas, they will be turned off.

Easy to say now that you were 'stupid', but how do you KNOW

you've quit, and wouldn't do it all again, when you get bored etc.?

Work well with your lawyer, thank your parents, work with

your parents to see where you go wrong.

Make this a learning experience.

No surprise you're feeling down. But really, you can move on from this. And you realize it.

Use the time-- exercise, study, read. Try to do your best, maybe you'll get out early on parole for good behavior.

Learn about mindfulness, it could really help you remain positive anf ind a peaceful center.

I have no idea what prison is like... but yes, it's never to late to change. You don't even have to wait, you can start in prison.

Good luck

This may sound ridiculous, but i want you to pray:) i don't know much haha, i'm a 15 year old girl! But my older sister passed away, and praying to God has got me through some tough times:) i find myself smiling more and my grades have improved. I have more friends at the minute and i appreciate life so much better. Having this poitive lifestyle will put an ease upon your depression, and help you get through prison. What do you have to lose??:)If you pray, and your view on life changes, you may get less time in prison!what is the worst that could happen? Please, pray, even if it's just once:) Ask God to forgive you of your sins and tell Him how you feel!:)I will pray for you tonight,I wish you the best of luck in life, and i hope you and your family are happy:)

I'm being honest, answers here are scary to me - forced sex in US prisons?? And the way these answerers are talking about it - with complete acceptance, as if it is not just normal and legal but also desirable in prisons: some like "Carl" actually enjoyed it??! Homosexuality is alright, but forced sex is not. I think individuals who are victimized and teased or abused in prison are more likely to be further stressed/ depressed and have psycho-emotional and social problems when they come out.

And I used to think US was a civilized, first world country.

My advice.. train train train... be as physically strong as you can be. Never start a fight, but always end one started on you. Never let anyone get away with anything. If they steal from you... steal your stuff back right away.... if you ever give in.. they will take advantage of that.

The first week or two will be the worse, but once you get settled and find a place to fit in, time will go by quick... get into a good routine and watch your back always.

There is life after prison. Make the most of it while you can.

look on th bright side. you could be doing life. 5 years is not that long. if you pray, god will help you through.

you should not kill yourself. you may not even do time with a good attorney.

you remain positive knowing that prison life will not be forever.

if you need medicine, the prison nurse should administer it for you.

Don't worry about prison, I've been there and you don't have to be concerned unless you weigh less than 200 lbs or so. The guys will swap you around but you will get used to it after a year or so and may eventually change your sexuality like me. I now am happily engaged to a beauty of the same sex and we will be getting married in September of this year.

If you're white you need to drop the anti racist b:u:l:l:s:h:i:t brainwashing immediately when you get inside and clique up with some skinheads if there's any on the inside.

If there's not just keep to yourself and keep quiet and if you are approached by anyone for sex or whatever to survive you're either going to have to give up that a:s:s or immediately fight like hell to gain your respect and keep the predators at bay.

Basically to survive you need to join a gang in prison.

And don't go looking for trouble, don't think you need to call blacks and mexicans racist names, just be willing to fight at all times to prove to everyone that you're not going to be a pushover even if you think you'll be pulverized.

The rapists generally want an "easy meal" and are not likely to continue after someone who is willing to fight them at all times even if that person can regularly be defeated.

A really good way to get out is to pretend you have discovered Jesus Christ as your Lord & saviour. The authorities will love that & you will probably get out earlier than if you do not pretend to believe it. Good eh? Religion has SO MANY uses!

EDIT: Just forget everything i copy pasted here and read the surah i gave the link in the description. And just forget about everything about what happened to you, about what you know about islam, what you know about the bible. They can take your freedom, they can take your wealth, they can take your health but not your heart. They cant control it, it is yours and you are the only one that commands it.

Just read that surah i gave you in the description, and try to understand it. And believe me if that doesnt give you any hope at all, i am just a liar and my religion is fake

First of all hear what i have to say first. No matter what you know about islam forget about anything and read below, after all you wont lose anything right?

Ok so i am going to copy paste from a website:

"Allah swt has made it easy for believers to overcome their depressions and anxieties. With the increase in faith a stage comes when these depressions and anxieties cannot do any harm to a true believer .Allah swt had made it clear in Holy Quran:

No doubt! Verily, the Auliyâ' of Allâh no fear shall come upon them nor shall they grieve, Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism), and used to fear Allâh much . (Yunus 10:62,63)

Allâh is the Walî (Protector or Guardian) of those who believe. He brings them out from darkness into light. (Al-Baqarah 2:257)

When a person is facing depression or some psychological problem he feels as he is engulfed in darkness.. It is indeed very difficult to overcome dark patches of life but the above mentioned verse makes it clear that if a person has firm belief in Allah swt .Allah swt takes him out of that darkness.

Piety i.e abstaining from sins:

Piety or abstaining from sins is indeed a great deed. Those who abstain from sins are indeed blessed by Allah swt

.Allah swt says in Holy Quran:

And fear Allâh that you may be successful. (Al-Baqarah 2:189)

One part of this success is to get rid of depressions. This portion of is also achieved if we fear Allah swt.Allah swt says:

And whosoever fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). (At-Talaq 65:2-3)

Trust in Allah swt:

When someone has trust in some trustworthy being .The trust worthy person or being never leaves that person alone. No one can be more trustworthy than Allah swt . So when someone trusts in Allah swt .Allah swt takes away his depressions and worries

This has been mentioned in Holy Quran in following way:

And whosoever puts his trust in Allâh, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allâh will accomplish his purpose. Indeed Allâh has set a measure for all things (At-Talaq 65:3)

Holy Quran is the last book of Allah swt revealed on prophet Muhammad salal laho aliehi wasalam and it is the greatest source of guidance at this moment. Its recitation is source of great rewards from Allah swt and it has also been revealed as cure of all diseases .Allah swt says in holy Quran:

And We send down from the Qur'ân that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe (Al-Isra 17:82)

On another instance Allah swt says :

O mankind! There has come to you a good advice from your Lord (i.e. the Qur'an, ordering all that is good and forbidding all that is evil), and a healing for that in your breasts, - a guidance and a mercy for the believers. (Yunus 10:57)

So any one who recites holy Quran his spiritual ,psychological and physical diseases will be cured with the grace of Allah swt. Indeed each and every verse of Holy Quran is cure for diseases but some specific surahs and verses have significant affect .These surahs and verses are as follows:

Surah Fatihah

Surah Baqarah

Surah Ikhlas

Surah Falaq

Surah Nas

Ayatul kursee

There are many ways to worship Allah swt .One of them is remembrance of Allah swt. This is a very simple way of worshipping.Only a slight movement of tongue results in getting great blessings of Allah swt.

Allah swt says in Holy Quran:

O you who believe! Remember Allâh with much remembrance. And glorify His Praises morning and afternoon [the early morning (Fajr) and 'Asr prayers]. He it is Who sends Salât (His blessings) on you, and His angels too (ask Allâh to bless and forgive you), that He may bring you out from darkness (of disbelief and polytheism) into light (of Belief and Islâmic Monotheism). And He is Ever Most Merciful to the believers. (Al-Ahzab 33:41-43)

On another instance Allah swt says:

Those who believe , and their hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allâh, Verily, in the remembrance of Allâh do hearts find rest. (Ra'd 13:28)

The things i want to add is read the chapter 12 of the Quran intitled Yusuf. It is one of the most hope giving verses you could find anywhere
