Atheists, how is it possible to be good without God?

All that is good comes from God. All that is evil comes from Satan. It is therefore not possible to be good without God.

I used to be a christian, and was brought up with the christian "values", however at 13 I started questioning my faith. One of my biggest reasons was that God is supposed to be all good, and the devil all evil just as you said. However, the majority of religions pre-christianity, have Gods that are half of the time good and half of the time evil. They were the ultimate just Gods, the ones to fear and love at the same time. The old testament version of God is closer to that. He was just, he was good and bad. Jews, Muslims, and Catholics still believe in this. Christians however follow the new testament where God and Jesus are only good. I'm crying foul on this, if anything God and the Devil are the same person. God created everything----even evil! That means he isn't the ideal benevolent being.

Which brings me to my next point, that after I came to this conclusion that the Devil and God are the same being, which is the reason behind bad things happening to good and bad people, I began to believe there is a certain energy behind everything, like Karma or Yin-Yang, and that this energy is what is abstracted to being a God. You don't need a God to be good, just believe in the laws of the universe, that when you do good things, it will come back to you. At the very least leading a good life will bring you more happiness, than leading a immoral life. If you want to believe in God go ahead, but understand he is not pure good, and therefore without him, one can feasibly live a better life, by doing what they feel is right, rather than what they are told by their religion!

Well, you don't really know that all good come from god, that's what you been told to believe and to repeat. If we talk about the nature energies and nature laws that create and sustain life in the universe, it goes without saying, all that is good; and I guess it's okay if you want to call god to the supposed origin of all that good. Now, the so call good and evil are rather personal than nature realities; they are concepts elaborated by the human ego, taking into account his own personal gain or loss game that he's playing on this life. Man kind has a long history and enough knowledge and enough experience, to know what's good or bad for his own life. If man has not yet learned by his own created miseries and mistakes, no amount of preaching and psychological terror imposed by this or that religion will do the trick. Man has been evolving and will evolve intellectually and emotionally, to a more sophisticated creature with no help from religion, thank you very much. I challenge you to point out any thing good in any century due to religion or your religion in particular. Beside war, death, miseries,abuses to human rights, what do we need to be thankful to religion for?.

For freethinking atheists, such as myself, we don't have others telling us when and how to wipe!

We follow our own guidelines, and we view that our own personal views are good, regardless of what others think. Christ Jesus wanted those who denied him to reign over them, slain before him.

I, as with many other atheists, don't desire power, or to be idolized, and for those that refuse to do so to us, we could care less about them!

To add insult to injury the Bible writers claim that Jesus came to destroy the works of Satan. Satan is a gentleman! He suggested Eve to acquire knowledge! She was not looking for fame, sex, drugs or money, but plain knowledge of good and evil!



1 John 3:8 For the Devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil* (*and have people fully dependent on the Clergy and the Preachers about any knowledge of good and evil!)



The end result is that by having God the Son Jesus Christ crucified, GOD the Father seems to HAVE CHANGED now (John 3:16) and Christians begin to love him because Jesus is a member of the mysterious Holy Trinity and not another human being!



The Early Church Fathers predicted that Christianity in general wouldn't mind the lack of a direct face to face contact with “God” as long as they have access to an exclusive book about God. The Bible writers picture God to be so cruel that the idea of reading only the nicer stories about him is the best deal that any Christian can really bargain for!
