According to secular meditation it is an emptying of ones self. According to biblical meditation it is a supposed to be a refining tool to focus on the attributes of God. So on one hand you sit there and remove items from your mind through training, the other expounds on a subject, like love for instance. You would think on topics such as, what have I seen of love in my life, what have I experienced of love, and how are these experiences connected; so on and so forth.

My suggestion: first watch your breath as it comes in and out. After doing this about ten minutes sitting or laying down with your spine straight focus your attention on the single eye, the point just between and above your eyebrows. Do not try to stop your thoughts. What you resist persists, Just watch them. Become the watcher. Watch your thoughts, and they watch yourself watching your thoughts. After a while they may still on their own. If something is bothering you and the thought is persistent, tell yourself you will dedicate five minutes to think of it later in the day. I learned from the lessons the Self Realization Fellowship sends out by mail, techniques taught by the Masters of the line of Babaji, the deathless guru. The lessons are not expensive they are sent out by volunteers.

If you are seeking a new and different explanation of the truth that makes sense, search for TRUTH CONTEST in Google and click the 1st result, then click on THE PRESENT and read what it says. This is truth you can check.

There are two schools of thought on that. One is to think of nothing (which is like trying not to think of a pink elephant when told not to think about it!); another is to focus on what's happening with your body ("mindfulness).

No. I concentrate my mind and focus my full attention towards that sacred syllable, which my Mentor has taught me.

Sit quietly and think of nothing....like how long is a Chinese name.
