Persia. Some returned to Palestine after a decree by Cyrus allowing them to return and rebuild the temple, others had made a life for themselves and decided to stay.

The Israelites (Hebrews from the Northern Kingdom) were taken into captivity some time before the Judites ( Hebrews from the Southern Kingdom later known collectively as Jews). The Israelites were not very diligent about keeping genealogies and were not recognized along their tribal lines by the Jews when they returned to Palestine. As result most other than the Judites stopped identifying themselves along their tribal lines.

The notion of there being "lost tribes" is a popular mythology but those who diligently study the scriptures recognize this a just a myth. These people are only lost to the extent that the Jews bigotry forbid those Israelites form identifying themselves with their tribe because they are deemed to have "uncertain lineage".

Judah wasn't really lost, though it was scattered and persecuted. Other tribes dispersed through most of eurasia. Jeremiah hints at many of the 10 tribes of the northern kingdom going to "the land of the north" (present day Caucuses and Russia?) after their time of captivity.

Today, there are probably partial bloodlines from the twelve tribes in just about every country. Maybe you're one of them.

They never existed in the first place. The Jews were just one of many Canaanites.
