Question concerning Revelations 1:8?

Revelations 1:8 says,

GWT: "I am the A and the Z," says the Lord God, the one who is, the one who was, and the one who is coming, the Almighty. (GOD'S WORD®)

KJV: I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.


According to Revelations 1:8, the phrase "who is and who was and who is to come" is applied to Jesus, right?

MY QUESTION:

If the phrase "who is and who was and who is to come" is also applied to God (Revelations 4:8), then does this prove that Jesus is God? Because then this would mean the "GOD" is the "ONE WHO IS TO COME". And we all know that according to the Bible "JESUS" is the "ONE WHO IS TO COME" for his church.

YES! YES! I say this all the time, that is one of the scripture references I ALWAYS give when trying to explain Jesus IS GOD!

Only God is the beginning and end, and so is Jesus! Yes it is speaking of Jesus.

Also John 1:1 is very clear GOD is Jesus!

why does Rev 1:8 necessarily apply to Jesus? Its says "sayeth the Lord", not "sayeth Jesus"? Is there another passage that attributes the alpha/omega quote to Jesus? I've only heard it as applied to God. To me, it says that God always was and always is and always will be...doesnt seem to have anything to do with Jesus as far as I can tell. So is there more, perhaps in Rev 1:9 that says "This applieth to Jesus, too?"



So to answer your question, No, this does not apply to Jesus. Just because Jesus is supposedly returning doesnt mean that this is about Jesus because of the phrase "...which is to come". This doesn't say anything about Jesus.

Yes!! Jesus is God. God was manifest in the flesh (Jesus) and dwelt among us.



There are a lot of scriptures that reveal this. John 1:1&14, Eph. 4:4-6, 1 Tim. 3:16, etc....

In revelation 4:8, in the actual hebrew documents, it uses the hebrew letters YHWH. YHWH in the English language is transalated Jehovah. And that im sure you know that that's God's name. and actually to help understand how the phrase "who is and who was and who is to come" applies to Jehovah, In Exodus 3:14 God tells Moses 'I shall prove to be what i shall prove to be' or in other translations 'i am that i am'.



Jesus is not God, there are too many instances in the Gospels where Jesus shows submission to God, even calling him "Father". If you look at Colossians 1:15 it says regarding Jesus, that he is the firstborn of creation. -God was never created, he's always been there. But Jesus was created BY God.

you know..I have struggled with the Deity all my life....I am a Christian and I do believe, but I have come to realize that our human minds have great difficulty in grasping how God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are One and yet they are Three. That's the "real" question you asking, isn't it? I wish I had some earth shattering revelation to explain all this...but I don't. I'm not versed as a theologian, I'm just a lay-person....I sure hope someone out there can give us both a glimmer of remote understanding...Anyone?

Let me stick my neck out here; the Lord (not lord) from Genesis-Malachi was the Lord Jesus Christ.

Yes Jesus was God (recall God can be singular or plural in the original Hebrew).
