...How is it similar to Christianity, (i.e. in detail, not just Jesus vs. Muhammad or whatever), and how is it different? (Apart from some really obvious ones, obviously. :P lol) Thank you. :) <3 xxxxx

P.S. Christians and Muslims are welcome to answer. HOWEVER no mean or disrespectful answers. xx

Christianity Teachings vs Islamic Teachings using the Ten Commandments:

1. 'You shall have no other gods before Me.'

2. 'You shall not make for yourself any idol, nor bow down to it or worship it.'

In both Islam and Christianity we believe there is only ONE GOD and no worshipping idols... this is one reason why Islam does not support the Trinity because it contradicts the whole 'one God belief'.

3.'You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God'.

Both religions encounter this act as blasphemy

4. ‘You shall remember and keep the Sabbath day holy.’

Christians have Sabbath and Muslims have Jummah, which is like a Sabbath day,

Sabbath is from Friday evening to Saturday evening:

From evening unto evening shall you celebrate your Sabbaths

Jummah is from Thursday evening to Friday evening. On Jummah day Muslims gather together, preach and worship.

5. ‘Respect your father and mother’

This is seen as very important in both religions.

Islam says: “And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour.” (Quran 17:23)

Both religions see Mary as an ideal mother/female role model

6. ‘You must not kill.’

Islam strictly prohibits murder. Islam means peace. You should be able to figure of from the definition of the name of the religion that it does not allow for such inhumane acts.

Islam only allows killing during war, and even then so it disallows the killing of women and children in wars.

Contrary to the belief of society, Islam does not allow honour killing. That is a cultural thing in certain areas of the world.

However, Islam does allow you to kill someone if it is self defence, I dont think christianity does.

7. ‘You must not commit adultery.’

Neither religions allow this sinful act.

"Do not go near to adultery. Surely it is a shameful deed and evil, opening roads (to other evils)" (Quran 17:32).

8. ‘You must not steal.’

Islam is strict one this just as much as Christians. Muslims are not allowed to reap a full 100% profit from an item they are selling.

Islam forbids theft. Even begging is not allowed.

9. ‘You must not give false evidence against your neighbour.’

The Muslim prophet Muhammad was quoted as saying, "Be honest because honesty leads to goodness, and goodness leads to Paradise. Beware of falsehood because it leads to immorality, and immorality leads to Hell."

Muslims are not allowed to lie or exaggerate

10. ‘You must not be envious of your neighbour's goods. You shall not be envious of his house nor his wife, nor anything that belongs to your neighbour.’

The Prophet Muhammad said: Beware of envy because indeed envy destroys good deeds in the same manner as fire destroys wood

Muslims do believe in the original Old Testament, however over the centuries the actual original scriptures have altered in a major way and some of the true definitions have been changed, therefore they believe the testaments present nowadays do not reflect the true original meaning .. (if that makes sense lol).

The Quran on the other hand is always translated from the original scripture do avoid 'loss of information' and 'misguidance'.

Differences:

Trinity - Only One God in one form

Sin and Salvation - Muslims believe life is a test therefore sins and good deeds will all be accounted for.

Jesus never claimed divinity according to Muslims

Jesus never died on the cross and he will return

There is obviously a lot more, but I think my 'essay on the 10 commandments' is long enough lol :P

Hey good question i ll try as much 2 avoid hatred or prejudice okay 1st of i ll just mention the theological diffrences : islam believe in one god with no parts and he is so great and never became a man christianity: father jesus and spirit they are all one but yet still diffrent have diffrent wills the father is nt the spirit and so on islam: jesus is a man and prophet he is the messiah he had a virgin birth and he did miracles with the name of god christianity: jesus is fully man yet fully god and he did that miracles from his own power islam: no original sin every one will b judged for his own works if a baby died he will go to heaven christianity : the original sin of adam is transmitted to his sons if a baby died not baptiezed mostly in hell islam: jesus prayed for god to save him 4m the cross and god accepted his prayers so he was not and some 1 else was crossed christianity: god listened 2 his prayer and sent an angel to reassure him then god still let him to b crossified islam: muhammad is the last prophet of god christianity muhamad was not . . . I hope i didnt forget any thing btw the up there christian believes are some times refuted in the bible and have no strong base in the bible like jesus never claimed 2 b god or even called god in the bible . . Oh yea islam: u r justified by faith and work u need both christianity: u r justified by faith only as paul say. most christians believe that u need both coz its unlogic . . . These are the Five Pillars:

1. Belief in One God (Allah [which means "the sole deity"]) and the last prophet, Muhammad (peace be upon him), who acknowledges all the prophets mentioned in the Bible.

2. Pray five times a day.

3. Give charity.

4. Fast during the month of Ramadan (going on right now ^.^)

5. Make Pilgrimage at least once, if possible

=====================================

We believe Jesus (peace be upon him) is human and a prophet, there is no "vs." with any other prophets (peace be upon them all). They are all equal.

We follow the Qur'an, which acknowledges the Bible. We do believe in the Bible, but also realize that it was been altered throughout time by humans to suit their desires. There is also something called the aHadith which are the actions of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), which help us by describing how to pray, give charity. There a lot more than what we really need. Sometimes "Muslims" follow them over the Qur'an the word of Allah (glorious and exalted) which is wrong.

Peace!

The only similarities between Islam and Christianity are some similar creation beliefs, and a common belief in the importance of Abraham. Everything else (teachings, recent religious beliefs and holy figures) are as different as night and day. Even the values of Islam and Christianity are virtually polar opposites.

These are simple and easy things to do. Teachings outside the Quran prevent this by finding alternatives that benefit other then the ones mentioned in your question.

Thank you for asking me about my religion.

Before i began to answer your question, i would like to state two important things:

1. As Muslims we cannot lie about anything, especially about our religion.

2. We have original recorded sources of our religion:

A) The Quran

http://www.quranexplorer.com

B) Teachings of Muhammad - the Authentic saying or Sunnah

http://www.quranexplorer.com/hadith/english/index.html

This is a unique part of Islam, not available in any other ancient religions.

I qould like to quote a christian brother :

I am a true christian,

i used to take ablution before prayers like my jesus

[Exodus 40:30-1]

i prostrate (touching my forehead on the ground) during prayers like my jesus

[mathew 26:39, Genesis 17:3, 16:22, 20:6, Joshua 5:14, 7:6, I king 18:42]

me and my sisters cover our head like veiled women used to live around jesus

[Genesis 24:64-5]

i used to greet my brother and sister like my jesus by saying "Peace be upon you"

[20:19, 1st Samuel 25:6 ] in Hebrew : shalom alekum

i am fasting by not eating or drinking like my jesus

[Mathew 4:2, 6:16, 17:21, Exodus 34:28]

i keep away from taking or giving away interest as opposed by my jesus

[Deutronomy 23:19, 23:20]

my brothers are circumcised like my jesus

[Luke 2:21, Genesis 17:10-13]

i will never eat pork as forbidden by my jesus

[Leviticus 11:7-8, Deutronomy 14:8]

i will never touch alcoholic drinks as my jesus abstained from it

[6:1-4]

my brother keep a beard like my jesus used to keep

BUT,

i realized,

when i FOLLOW JESUS

everryone says: U R MULSIM

i wonder WHY!?

===================

i believe we christians follow jesus MORE than CHRISTIANS themselves.

Hope i helped

If by christianity you mean teaching of Propeht Eisa alisalm then there is no difference as all the Prophet bring us the same message of Allah to us

Quran says in SURAH 3

84: Say: "We believe in Allah, and in what has been revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and in (the Books) given to Moses, Jesus, and the prophets, from theirLord: We make no distinction between one and another among them, and to Allahdo we bow our will (in Islam)."

we all believe that god create us & all things

we believe that god Sent messengers to the people .

Believe in heaven and hell

We believe in the reward and punishment

we believe in presence of angels & satan

we believe un the last day

the 2 religions invite to the good manner

presence of misunderstanding people in 2 religions which may kill in the name of the god

we different in:

the muslim must believe in mohamed & jesus

the Christian believe only in jesus

the muslim must believe that jesus is prophet

the chistian believe that jesus is son of god

the muslim must believe that god is one & It befitteth not (the Majesty of) Allah that He should take unto Himself a son.

the chistian believe that jesus is son of god

the chistian believe that jesus is killed

the muslim believe that jesus is not killed:And because of their saying: We slew the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, Allah's messenger - they slew him not nor crucified him, but it appeared so unto them; and lo! those who disagree concerning it are in doubt thereof; they have no knowledge thereof save pursuit of a conjecture; they slew him not for certain. But Allah took him up unto Himself. Allah was ever Mighty, Wise.

Well, there are a couple.

The verses talking about war in the Qu'ran refers to specific battles such as the Battle of Badr, Battle of Uhud.. not daily affairs. But, many anti-Islam fools tend to take those specific verses out of context, ignoring the background behind it, then call Islam violent. How easy is it to take a couple of passages from Mein Kampf out of context and make Hitler's actions seem justifiable?

One main difference is that Muslims deny the trinity.

It is a sin for us to associate attributes, partners to God, such as sons, daughter, etc..

We do admire Jesus and the message he came with, but we don't believe he was God but merely a messenger.

There is no "honor killing" in Islam. "Honor killing" is a cultural thing. The Qu'ran affirms freedom of religion and forbids compulsion in religion in many verses that I lost count.

Many people have false information on Islam these days, which can be evidently seen simply on YA.

It boils down, not to Muhammad and Jesus, but to Isaac and Ishmael. Abraham was promised a "seed" that would inherit a land "flowing with milk and honey," in effect, a paradise terrain reminiscent of the Garden of Eden from which man was evicted after Adam's sin. (Genesis 2:8, 9; Genesis 3:6, 23, 24; Genesis 12:1-3, 6, 7; Exodus 3:8) But Sarah his wife was barren for many years, so Abraham apparently struggled in producing a "seed." Therefore, Sarah, due to ancient customs, reasoned with Abraham to have relations with her maidservant Hagar in order to produce a "seed." Abraham complied and Ishmael was born. (Genesis 16:1-4, 15) In time, however, God's spirit opened the womb of Sarah and Isaac was born. (Genesis 18:9 - 11; Genesis 21:1-3) Now, in those days, it was typical for the "firstborn" to receive the inheritance of his father because Adam, God's firstborn on earth, was given an inheritance from God, the garden of Eden and the prospect of a paradise earth. Since Abraham's inheritance stems from God, Abraham's firstborn would receive the promised paradise land of Canaan. But who would prove to be Abraham's "firstborn"? Ishmael by Hagar or Isaac by Sarah? This is where Christianity and Islam diverge, the fork in the road. Muhammad taught that Ishmael is to be considered the firstborn since he was born first by the flesh of Abraham. Thus, Muhammad also teaches that Palestinians, especially those that listen to Muhammad, are the descendants of Ishmael and the rightful owners of the promised land. Christianity teaches that the firstborn was Isaac, from whom sprang the nation of Israel and eventually Jesus. (Matthew 1:1-17) So are Muhammad's Palestinian followers in line for the inheritance of the promised land or Jesus' Jewish ancestors? Firstly, God stated that the blessing would go to Isaac. (Genesis 17:18 - 21) Moreover, the Apostle Paul at Galatians 4:22-31 reveals that neither are in line for the blessing. He shows that the story of Hagar and Sarah, Ishmael and Isaac, were inspired to symbolize God's own thinking. Abraham himself did not receive the promise due to his flesh but he did so due to his faith. Ishmael was born in the manner of the flesh which, ironically, symbolizes the nation of flesh Israel that spring from the flesh of Abraham, that is, the Jews. But Isaac was born by the spirit of God, because it was God's spirit that opened the womb of Sarah. Thus, there are two seeds that are symbolized in the drama: the nation of Israel that descended from Abraham's flesh and a nation of Israel based on the faith of Abraham, persons with the faith that Abraham displayed born by God's spirit. God's spirit, therefore, began to pour out upon many persons beginning with 120 disciples in the year 33 C.E.. (Acts 1:15; 2:1-4) These would be the first of 144,000 that would demonstrate the faith of Abraham and thus receive God's spirit and the inheritance, not just of the promised land of Canaan, but of the original paradise Edenic earth God had purposed for faithful man. (Revelation 14:1-4; Matthew 5:5) These will ascend to heaven to "rule as kings over earth." (Revelation 5:9, 10) Eventually, a "great crowd" that no man can number, will inherit a paradise earth, being allowed to live upon earth forever. (John 17:3; Revelation 7:9; Proverbs 2:21) Abraham himself descended from Adam. Therefore, no one by the flesh merits God's blessing. But by Abraham's spirit, or faith, he gained God's approval. So the blessing goes to those of like faith, not those descending from Isaac, nor those descending from Ishmael. Those who have the faith of Abraham and are born by the spirit of God are the real inheritors of the promise. (Galatians 3:28, 29; Acts 2:17; John 3:3-8)

Well, i know for a fact that muslims actually revere jesus. Muhammad himself commented that Mary was one of the holiest women of all.

They simply do not see him as god or the son of god

Can't think of any other similarity off the top of my head

Jesus died for all sins

Muslims do not have a savior

Jesus tells us to forgive and love

countless people have died horrible deaths in the last decades because of islam

Jesus demands husband and wife to love and respect each other

Islam gives women no rights and husbands are aloud to rape, murder, beat, cheat etc... Women are under the Shari'a law ( look that up)

Jesus will come back to earth in his second coming

Islam again has no savior.

Jesus offers eternal life with him in heaven

Muslim men are promised virgins in heaven, and women- well good luck!

Murder and suicide is a sin according to my God ( Jesus)

islam encourages this.

Christians pray, go on mission trips to help those in need, family is important to us, praising and fellowship and having a spiritual family are all important

Islam kills, steals and destroys.

Jesus was Jew and Israel is where God will return for his people

Islam teaches that Jews are disgusting, and to kill the jews ( they even hold up swa- stickers and hail to hitler)

Christianity is LOVE

Islam is HATE.

many years ago I looked into islam.... in their own countries and in their homes, streets, cafes, and mosques..........I was honestly seeking to know them.... what I learned turned me totally against any thing to do with islam........ sadly it took another 30 yrs for me to learn The Truth of God...

I will never have any respect for the deceptions of islam

All muslims must obey the law of allah absolutely and without exception.... it is the law of allah that islam is to dominate the world, and that ALL who do not submit to the law of allah are to be killed.

it is true that the majority of muslims are cowards who are content to allow others to do the dirty work.... but islam is a "religion of peace" only if you are in full submission to it.......... and what kind of peace is it if you are in constant fear of losing your head to your religion

why any woman would submit willingly to that....... i do not understand

IMO... from personal experience.... islam is one of the greatest threats facing man-kind today

Koran, chapter 4:34

"Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in their sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great."

Koran, Chapter 4:3

"Marry such women as seen good to you, two and three and four; but if you feel you will not do justice (between them), then (marry) only one or what your right hands possess."

"That which the right hand possessed" (surah 4:24)" is war bounties whether it be women, children, money, or property. So Muslims are limited to four wives but my have no limit to the number of concubines which do not have the same rights as wives. A little provision (food and clothes) is sufficient.

Chapter 4:20

"And if you wish to have one wife in place of another and have given one of them a heap of gold, then take not from it".

If one would read the Koran, one will find out that Allah wants Muslims to kill the infidels (unbelievers) wherever they are found (Koran 9:5), and that peace will come only to those who submit to him (Koran 8:17, 48:29, and 65). The Koran also has Allah saying that unbelievers should be killed (Koran 2:191, 3:141, 4:104, 4:89, 8:12-16, 9:5, 9:73-74, 9:123, 25:52…), that Muslim apostates should be killed or chastised (Koran 2:39, 2:85, 3:85, 3:106, 4:89, 16:106, and 47:25-28), that the heads and fingers of unbelievers should be cut off (Koran 5:33, 8:12, and 47:4), and that Muslims should fight and humiliate Jews and Christians (Koran 5:18 and 9:29).

Allah orders Muslims not to take Jews, Christians and other unbelievers as friends (Koran 3:28, 5:51 and 9:23), and will not forgive Christians (Koran 4:48 and 4:116). Muhammad taught to put the infidels to death wherever they were found (Koran 2:191, 2:244, 4:89, 5:36, 9:5, and 9:29), urged Muslims to fight the unbelievers who are close (Koran 9:123), mentioned that fighting is obligatory (Koran 2:216), and mandated the conquering of those relatives who opposed Muslims because loyalty to Islam overrode all other human bonds (Koran 9:23-24, and 58:22).

I will NEVER SUBMIT to the deceptions of the law of allah(islam/koran)
Leo

Why not simply read the Koran and the bible and compare the two?
anonymous

Muslims submit and surrender their will and desires to the will and the laws of the Creator. By referring to, "The Creator", Muslims are talking about "Allah."

The name "Allah" is unique. It has no feminine or masculine form (unlike 'god' or 'goddess'). It also has no plural form (unlike 'gods' and goddesses'). The name "Allah" simply means "The One and Only True God."

Islam is the ONLY NON CHRISTIAN FAITH which makes it an article of faith to believe in Jesus aka Hazrat Isa Peace be upon him, as being of the the Greatest messengers of Allah sent upon mankind for guidance.

No muslim is a MUSLIM, if he does not believe in jesus as the messiah, translated christ.

in his virgin (miraculous) birth,

in his ability to raise the dead with Gods permission, and

his ability to heal blind and lepers with Gods permission.

==============

the definition of God in islam is:

chapter 112:, surah Al-Ikhlas

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Say: He is Allah the One and Only; (1) Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; (2) He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; (3) And there is none like unto Him. (4)

chapter 2, surah baqarah:

Allah! there is no Allah but He―the living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal. No slumber can seize him nor sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth. Who is there can intercede in His presence except as He permitteth? He knoweth what (appeareth to His creatures as) Before or After or Behind them. Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He willeth. His Throne doth extend over the heavens and the earth, and He feeleth no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. For He is the Most High, the Supreme (in glory).

They are similar in that they both demand full devotion to their respective Gods, Islam however teaches that you should fight infidels (kuffars) wherever you find them. It is true that the Bible is a violent book just as the Koran, the problem being many Muslims in the middle east actually practice the violent passages.

It is similar to christianity in the sense that it is monotheistic. However, Jesus taught pacifism and love and Muhammad taught war, murder, rape and subjugation of women. Followers of both faiths have committed horrible atrocities but those acts are not justified in Christianity while they are according to Islam.

***The main difference is also that both books contain violent verses, however the Bible's violent verses are abrogated by Jesus teachings of peace while in Islam nothing came along to abrogate their hateful and violent verses. Essentially Jesus said no eye for an eye etc is wrong, but no one ever did that for islam.
