Wow. I love the way the protestants can claim that it's the Catholics that have changed the Bible!

That's hilarious.

Check out this one verse:

Genesis 2:4

"These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made ..."

Compare it to the Catholic bible (KJV) and the original verses in the Torah and they are the same.

Now check out how many different versions are in the wide variety of protestant bibles! They changed this verse to suit their own "young earth" agenda - because the use of the word "generations" with the word "day" (yom - meaning "period of time" ) conflicts with their "young earth agenda."

This is just one of many.

The Catholic bible is the most original, and most closely adheres to the Torah in the Old Testament, and to the actual documented writings and letters historically documented for the New Testament.

Incidentally, without Catholic monks transcribing, by HAND the New Testament gospels, no protestant bibles would even exist.

Protestants have fully accepted each and every one of the 27 books that the Holy Spirit inspired Catholics to select for the New Testament over 1,500 years ago..

The difference in the Old Testaments actually goes back to the time before and during Christ’s life. At this time, there was no official Jewish canon of scripture.

The Jews in Egypt translated their choices of the Hebrew Scriptures into Greek in the second century before Christ. This translation of 46 books, called the Septuagint, had wide use in the Roman world because most Jews lived far from Palestine in Greek cities. Many of these Jews spoke only Greek.

The early Christian Church was born into this world. The Church, with its bilingual Jews and more and more Greek-speaking Gentiles, used the books of the Septuagint as its Bible. Remember the early Christians were just writing the documents what would become the New Testament.

After the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, with increasing persecution from the Romans and competition from the fledgling Christian Church, the Jewish leaders came together and declared its official canon of Scripture, eliminating seven books from the Septuagint.

The books removed were Tobit, Judith, 1 Maccabees, 2 Maccabees, Wisdom (of Solomon), Sirach, and Baruch. Parts of existing books were also removed including Psalm 151 (from Psalms), parts of the Book of Esther, Susanna (from Daniel as chapter 13), and Bel and the Dragon (from Daniel as chapter 14).

The Christian Church filled with the Holy Spirit did not follow suit but kept all the books in the Septuagint. 46 + 27 = 73 Books total.

1500 years later, Protestants decided to keep the Catholic New Testament but change its Old Testament from the Catholic canon to the Jewish canon.

The books that were removed supported such things as

• Prayers for the dead (Tobit 12:12; 2 Maccabees 12:39-45)

• Purgatory (Wisdom 3:1-7)

• Intercession of saints in heaven (2 Maccabees 15:14)

• Intercession of angels (Tobit 12:12-15)

The books they dropped are sometimes called the Apocrypha.

certainly the unique King James version coated all seventy 3 stimulated books, in basic terms as they have been defined as quickly as and continuously by using the bishops of the Catholic Church on the Council of Carthage in 397 advert. It grew to become into the call of Martin Luther to eliminate 10 of the stimulated books from the Holy Bible - 3 New testomony books and seven previous testomony books. luckily his followers would not hear of eliminating the writings of the Apostles themselves, and have been on the brink of a insurrection over the difficulty. So Luther subsidized off and left the hot testomony intact, yet nonetheless bumped off the 7 previous testomony texts. for this reason the Protestant Bible is incomplete, having in common terms sixty six books quite of the finished seventy 3. And if Luther had his way, Protestants could have in common terms sixty 3 books. The Catholic Church nonetheless makes use of the finished and finished Holy Bible, because it grew to become into initially defined, and because it grew to become into utilized by using each and every Christian on the earth for a million, two hundred years between the time it grew to become into compiled and the time Luther bumped off components he did not like. different than those 7 lacking books, the only differences between the unique version and the Protestant version are some words Luther inserted into the textual content cloth here and there, in an attempt to help a number of his new doctrines. as an occasion, in places the place the textual content cloth states that faith is needed for salvation (a real fact), Luther inserted the observe "on my own", in result rewriting the textual content cloth to declare that "faith on my own" is needed for salvation (an unfaithful fact that quickly contradicts different statements interior the observe of God).

The differences between what you term a Catholic Bible and Protestant Bible are very small. A few books. The general gist is the same in both of them. There are some inspirational writings in the Catholic Bible that are not found in the Protestant Bible, but the absence is not going to cause great harm to Christianity. What is important is that all people who practice Christianity read their Bible. If you are Catholic and you attend Mass regularly, you will substantially read the entire Bible every three years during the Readings, Psalms, Gospels and other prayers said through Christ Our Lord. You may not read all of the geneaologies and Jewish laws, but you will get all the good parts, ahem.

The owner of the avatar "Matthew" wrote:

"Throw the catholic bible in the trash. The real Bible has 66 books and the catholic bible has added books which shouldn't have been done.

Jesus is God and the only way into heaven. Please pray a sincere prayer with all of your heart admitting to Jesus you are a sinner. Have full faith that His blood pays off all of your sins and accept His gift of everlasting life. I pray that God blesses you with peace. Amen."

Then a number of avatar owners berating Matthew. Why? He is right. Jesus is God and the only way to heaven. He asks for sincere prayer. All Christians should heed his remark. Did he insult you by saying "throw the catholic bible in the trash." Yes? Suck it up Catholic. He also asked for prayer. For reasons you will never know, he believes the Catholic bible is garbage. So be it. Thank you for your prayers Matthew. If anyone finds a Bible that leads them to pray as he did, then we can be sure the idiotic message of Martin Luther's Sola Scripture is deader'n'a doornail. He professes his faith. A good work. He asks you to pray. A good work. He prays FOR you. A good work. He has three times denied the heretic Martin Luther, but you are upset because he doesn't like the Catholic bible? I don't care if he reads a Bible for kindergarten children, he is right on. Keep on truckin' Matthew.

Did you see Tim Tebow's little eye-patch thingee during the Sugar Bowl? He takes a passage from St. Paul:

"8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from you; it is the gift of God;

9 it is not from works, so no one may boast. "

This means that God's grace saves you if you have faith. You do not save yourself by reading any version of the Bible or supporting or criticizing any Bible. Grace is the gift of God, not from anything you do. So Paul admonishes us not to boast/brag/toot our own horn/insist on OUR way..... And this passage leads to the very next sentence by the evangelist St. Paul:

"10 For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them."

So Tim Tebow has prompted us to read the Bible with his 2-line teaser to come to the conclusion that we are the creation of God, created in Jesus, to do good works that God has prepared for us long before we came to Life, and that we should live in those GOOD WORKS.

God Bless Tebow AND Matthew. While they may not profess to a conviction to unify all Christians under the Roman Catholic Church, they nonetheless lead to that very end. This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice.

Protestants believe that Bible is the sole source of God’s special revelation to mankind.

Catholics believe that faith in God is just the beginning of salvation and then the individual should build it with good work.

The Protestant removed 7 books from the Old Testament. The Catholic Church continues to use the Bible as canonized some 1600+ years ago.

So much misinformation in the answers posted. Actually we know that Jesus and the Apostles quoted from the Septuagint, which is the Greek version of the Old Testament. The Septuagint is known to have had those 7 books in it and never was their a Greek version that did not. So the fact that Jesus and the Apostles quoted from the Septuagint tells that their Bible did have those 7 books in it.

Also, the Dead Sea Scrolls confirm that those 7 books were part of the Bible as well.

The Old Testament that David is referring to, in his anti-Catholic post, was canonized in 90 AD, well after Christ's death and resurrection. The Jews saw they were losing many people to the Christian faith. The Christians were using the scriptures to support the idea that Jesus was the Messiah. So some of the Jewish elders decided on what books were officially Jewish. They did not include the 7 books that had been part of scripture for centuries because these books supported what the Christians were teaching.

Interesting that Protestants decided to use the canon that was created by those who did not believe in Christ.

Hello,

The extra books in the Catholic Bible were removed later by the Reformers as mentioned.

Just one quick thought. A few Christians here should take a moment to fall on their knees and thank God that the Unforgiviable Sin against the Holy Spirit is not stupidity in combo with ignorance.

Cheers,

The catholic Bible has all the Books and did not depend on a council of Jews to set the cannon of the Bible at Jamia which also claimed the new testimate wasn't inspired so you either acept the christian version of the bible or the Jewish version..

Christianity was in effect for between 35-65 years before the Jewish Council of Jamnia was called. As such, the Jewish Council had absolutely no authority whatsoever over Christianity Suppose that next month of this year, the Jews decided to call a council in order to remove Isaiah and Jeremiah from the Old Testament and then voted to do it. Would Protestants also remove these books from the King James bible? It would seem they have already set a precedent. Why do Protestants accept the ruling of the Jewish Council of Jamnia, and at the same time reject the ruling of the Christian Council of Carthage regarding the Old Testament canon? Further still, why do they accept the canon of the New Testament which was decided at the same Christian Council?

Protestants have repeatedly said there is no evidence that Deuterocanonical books are inspired as none of them are referenced in the New Testament. This is absolutely not true as there are several references to the "Deuters", and at least two from apocrypha which I have found...

Bible references (NT) to Apocryphal books:

1. Jude 1:9, Yet when Michael the archangel was fiercely disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, he did not venture to bring against him an accusation of blasphemy, but said, "May the Lord rebuke thee."

This is only in the Apocryphal book, 'The Assumption of Moses'.

2. Jude 1:14, Now of these also Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, "Behold the Lord has come with thousands of His holy ones..." This prophecy is from the Apocryphal Book of 'Enoch', 1:9.

3. 2Tim 3:8, "Just as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so these men also resist the truth, for they are corrupt in mind, reprobate as regards the faith." Although this is a reference to Ex 7:11, the 'magicians' of Pharaoh, they are not named in Exodus. They are found in the Apocryphal book 'Gospel of Nicodemus' 5:1. They are also found in the 'Narrative of Aeneas' Account of the Suffering of the Lord Jesus Christ', 5:4.

Then why don’t the Protestants accept the dutero canonical books of the bible. At this time the Jewish cannon was not settled. Inspired..

Why didn’t Paul and the apostles warn the Christians not to read the septuligent..or the 70 named after the 70 Rabbis who translated the sterigaint from Hebrew to Greek all 70 translated it independtly and came to the same translations.

So why do the Protestants accept The Anti Christian post Pentecostal Jewish council of Jamnia as authoritative on this matter of the Old testimate Cannon as they put the catholic church added books to the bible...God did not hand the Bibel down from heaven the mkake up of the Bible was determined by men. The Question Is which Group of Men was led by God to make this decision .

You have two Choices

1. A counsel of Jewish Rabbis at the close of the first Century. Who set the old testimate at 39 books. And determined the New testimate writings to be uninspired.

2. Or The Christian Church Leaders In the 4th Century That determined the make up of the new Testimate and set the old testimate at 46 books..

I can't believe the ignorance of some folks around here -- ignorance in the sense of "not knowing" AND in the sense of "gone to seed." And that's to say nothing of some folks' hatred and prejudice against their Catholic brothers and sisters in Christ.

The Catholic Church assembled and codified the Bible after much prayer, discussion, and thought. It took the heretic Martin Luther to remove the books that he didn't approve of: specifically, those that disagreed with his man-made doctrines of Sola Scripture and Sola Fide. (Incidentally, if anyone added anything to the Bible, it was Luther who insisted on putting the word "Alone" after Faith, in order to justify Sola Fide. The word does NOT occur in the original manuscripts.)

He also removed the Books of First and Second Maccabees because they support the doctrine of Purgatory, which he didn't like, either. He took out other books that didn't meet his standards -- never mind what God might have thought. And if wiser heads hadn't prevailed, he would have chopped out the Book of James because it clearly states that faith without works is dead.

So the next time you pick up your poor, pathetic, crippled Protestant Bible, remember that you have Martin Luther to thank for the mangled mess you call Scripture. If you want the true Bible as it was meant to be read, go buy a copy of the Catholic Bible -- the complete and true Holy Bible.

We oughta know. . .we gave it to the world in the first place.

There is none, the bible in its current form was compiled and edited during the 4th Century AD by a group of "enlightened" catholics, and now for some reason protestants swear it is the holy unquestioned word of god, even though several books were left out, such as the book of Mary Magdalene and several others, because the enlightened catholics thought they weren't God inspired. Funny that today Protestants dedicate thier whole lives to a book which was put together by Catholics, makes you wonder why they hate each other so much.

Protestants removed books from the bible in the 16th century.

Contrary to what Matthew was brainwashed concerning the bible, if there is a bible that is wrong, it is the Protestant bible. The book the "bible" was put together on order of the Pope in the 4th century and remained unchanged until the Protestants removed books from it to suit their agenda in the 16th century, starting with the Anglicans, a religion started on divorce.

In first century Jerusalem there were at least four OT Canons in use by different Jewish Groups. There was the Canon of the Pharisees, the Sadducees, the Ethiopian Jews and the Diaspora/Essene Jews. Jesus and the disciples used the Septuagint which was the Canon of the Diaspora/Essenes. We know this because it is quoted in the New Testament. This Canon continued to be the Canon of Christians until after the Reformation and, in fact until about 200 years ago when the Protestants adopted a condensed version of the Canon eliminating the Deuterocanonicals from their Bibles. Even the AKJ originally contained the complete Christian Canon. It has been said by critics of Christ’s Church that the Deuterocanonicals were never believed to be inspired and just the opposite is true. The decision by Christians as to which books are inspired and useful for teaching was decided at the African Synods in the late fourth and early fifth century. There was never a question about their inspiration.

The OT Canon chosen by the Protestants is actually a Jewish Canon not chosen by the Jews until after the establishment of Christianity as a result of the spread of Christianity to slow the growth of the new group in Jerusalem after the fall of the Temple in 70AD. Until then as I said previously there were many Canons in use. The adoption of the Canon missing the Deuterocanonicals united the Jews against the Christians was decided in the Jewish Council of Jamnia because the Deuterocanonicals referred too strongly to the Messiah fulfilled in Christ.

Some Protestants will claim that only the Jews have the authority to choose Canon but the Church deferred that decision to Christ and the disciples and it is clear through biblical research, that the Septuagint is the Bible used by the first century Church and quoted in the NT Scriptures. The fact that Protestants choose to adopt the Canon that was approved by the same Jews that accused our Lord that resulted in His crucifixion suggests the source of this confusion as from the father of lies who led the Pharisees to accuse Christ and petition for His punishment. It is another way that Satan divides the body of Christ and separates the faithful denying Christ’s prayer that we all be one in Christ through His Church. The Christian Church has always used the Septuagint as Canon and never the truncated version of modernist Protestants.

Some Protestants erroneously believe that Catholics added to the Bible with the Deuterocanonicals but this shows an ignorance of their own history and the history of Christianity as witnessed by Christ’s Church. The facts are that the Protestants removed the Deuterocanonicals and even considered strongly to remove some of the NT books currently in use by Protestants and Catholics. Fr. Martin Luther was in favor of removing the book of James because it conflicted with His heretical man made doctrines of the “Solas”, Sola Scriptura and Sola Fide. The heretic Ulrich Zwingli wanted to remove the Gospel of John because of its teaching of the commandment to Eat Christ’s Body and drink His Blood which contradicted his view of a real absence of Christ instead of a real presence in the Eucharist. Even Fr. Martin Luther could not endorse such a departure from Scriptures and deny that Christ is truly and really present in the Eucharist in Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.

Matthew has his head up his uninformed butt.

The Catholics "added" nothing. The Protestants took away.

The Catholic bible was the first one. It had 73 books. At the time of the Protestant Reformation, Luther pulled 7 books.

The Catholics didn't accept this, so they retained all the books.
