Which shows more "arrogance": Atheism, Christianity, or neither? (See details.)?

Atheist view of humanity: Human beings and the earth are no more special than any other natural phenomenon. No greater power exists to care about humanity; the only thing that makes us important is the fact that we are important to ourselves and to each other.

Christian view of humanity: Human beings are the special creation of God, and they alone are imbued with a soul that is immortal. What makes us important is that we are uniquely important to God, whose love and care intervene to improve the lives of those who believe in him.

I think I've accurately depicted the two views. Which one (if either) sets forward a more "arrogant" depiction of human beings?

Certainly, the form of Christian faith you've described. (NB: It is not the only form of Christian faith. Most liberal and postmodern theologies left it behind long ago...)

First of all, you have no idea how all atheists view humanity. Atheists, though they have similar views, not all think the same or view humanity the same. Your statement about all atheists makes you very arrogant. Second, religion or lack of does not determine arrogance. It depends on each individual: lack of humbleness, closedminded, intolerance, degrading towards others, etc makes one arrogant. I'm sure I left out some examples but you get the picture. By the way, your accuracy is highly lacking.

More often it is the attitude of the person that is arrogant more so than what they believe

Atheists believe that man is the highest form or most evolved of all life on earth and that we answer to each other and a social conscience that has evolved with mans society.

Christians believe that man is not the highest order of life and that they have a higher authority to answer to on top of the Socially accepted norm

Christians believe it is arrogant to believe that man is the highest form of life. But if you do not believe in a God then it is not arrogant to believe man is as there is nothing else.

Christians have a difficult time with the idea that they're not "special"

Christianity of course. I mean, all you really have to do is watch the Super Bowl. Pay attention to the speech that the winning team gives. What do they say EVERY TIME?



"I just wanna take a moment and give thanks to God... we couldn't have won without him!"



C'mon... how arrogant do you have to be to think that an ultimately powerful cosmic superbeing intervened on the behalf of your "truly deserving" professional sports team so that you could win "the big game"?

Atheists think that on a basic level we are no more special than our pets. Christians think that not only humans are superior, but that they are going to heaven to live in paradise and the rest of us will burn in Hell. Christianity hands down.



And I was raised a Catholic, and switched to atheism on my own thought.

Either can get arrogant because they consist of people that can BE arrogant. Is it built into either if their philosphys? No not really. Although atheists assume the role of God so one could interpret them as arrogant.

What I don't get about atheists though is that most of them haven't even tried to find a religion that suits them so they just say they're atheists because they are lazy, when what they really mean is non-christian.
