Question:
Are these two groups of athiests correct? Do those of you who are religious treat/think of them the same way?

The first kind is the annoying kind. They scowl at you if they sneeze and you tell them "god bless you". They feel the need to explain their version of the truth over and over again. They degrade anyone that thinks any bit of religion is true but watch the Taps crew on "Ghost Hunters"(which involves spirits, ghosts, and the afterlife) every Wednesday night.

The second kind is the respecting kind. They accept "god bless you" as just 'well wishes'. They looked at the bible passage in the Christmas cards from the white house and replied with "awe that's cute". They accept peoples' religious beliefs as long as it makes that person happy or whole and don't demand explanations for their beliefs.

I really dont think the second group really are atheists. They are usually called agnostic, which means they dont accept Gods word for what it is; they are really unsure what they believe. They dont say 100% there is NO God, but that they dont buy into the organized religion.

Er. I don't think I've ever met the first kind of atheist you describe. But, everything has it's extremes, so I don't doubt they exist.

Contrary to what this place would have you believe- most atheists really don't give a hoot. We're not out to convince you that there is not a god, unless it affects us in some way.

I accept 'God bless you' when I sneeze just as easily as I do 'geizundeit' [I know, I butchered that word]. It's simply someone being polite. I simply live my life day to day, not worrying about mine or anyone else's beliefs until someone tries to get me to go to their Christian get together.

And let's not forget the two groups of christians:

The first kind is the annoying kind. They knock on your door on weekends to witness and proselytize to you. They tell you that you must turn or burn. They degrade anyone who disagrees with them.

The second kind is the respecting kind. They accept that other people have their own beliefs and disbeliefs. They look at the world and see that it is not what their bible or religion or even their pastor makes of it. They accept people's religious beliefs or non-religions and don't demand others to conform to their beliefs.

First of all, I hate it when people say god bless you too me, because I dont believe in god so its empty words....basically it means nothing. I dont watch ghost hunters, in fact I think its really lame from the promos I have seen for it.

That being said, I hate it when people try and force their religion on me...and I rarely talk about religion to people I dont know....

As for demanding explanations, I dont need to hear all that stuff...what I want to know is why do religious people always criticize atheists? what have I ever done to you?

The second group seems much nicer. Although I don't believe in Ghosts and I think that Ghost hunter show is stupid. I think getting all angry over "God Bless you" when you sneeze is kind of nitpicking. Although I will debate anyone when they try to explain their religion to me.

I'm the second group, but I also watch Ghost Hunters. *shrug* I had experiences like they investigate all the time growing up, but I didn't attribute it to "spirits" or an afterlife. I just don't know what they were/are. For all I know, it's fuzzy reception from another universe.

Depending on the circumstances I occasionally fall into both groups. Except I've never seen this "Ghost Hunters", and if I did I wouldn't think it was real.

I am of the 2nd kind. I don't care what you believe as long as you don't try to shove it down my throat or up my hinder parts and as long as you don't try to teach mythology as science in the public schools.

I can't stand the first group you described. They make us look pretty bad.
