I know that many people have different views on whether or not CCM is wrong. I just want opinions from everyone - atheists, Christians, etc. In your answer, please include why you think CCM is okay or not, and I would appreciate it if you put if you're a Christian, atheist, Muslim, wiccan, etc., but if you're uncomfortable doing that then that's okay. Thank you for your time :).

I believe CCM is ok as long as the words are true, and the music itself does not overwhelm, drowning out the lyrics.

I am a Christian and I try not to listen to CCM. I get the impression that the artists who record this type of music just want to sell records and make money. As a Christian we are not to be part of the World and to me this music sounds just like the Worldly music except the lyrics are about God.

I'm not a fan of current CCM scene. I think its all redundant; the music ten years ago was way better. Examples...Point of Grace, Newsboys, Dc Talk, Supertones, Five Iron Frenzy, 4 Him, Cindy Morgen...this was all great stuff and now most of those bands don't even exist any more. Good music has been replaced by "christian rap or rap/rock"; how these people get contracts is beyond me...

i'm a Christian and that i looooooovvvveeee CCM. i have continually loved music of many kinds--fantastically rock. I grew up listening to Kiss, Def Leppard, etc. (oops, am I exhibiting my age!?! LOL) I even married a drummer!! i'm no longer a "holy curler" who thinks rock music is the muse of all evil. Songs of any type could have an outstanding or adverse message--it really is all in the lyrics. I now take heed to a CCM station only about for all time. The bands are tremendous and the message is even more advantageous! at the same time as i'm using i'm able to crank it up and sing alongside a twin of I continually have with different varieties of music. the perfect component is that it keeps me targeted on God! It lifts me up and reminds me what it skill to me to be a believer. The bible talks of praising Him with music and dance. Who can argue with that? Favorites contain Kutless, Casting Crowns, third Day, Jeremy Camp, MercyMe only to call some.

Well some of it is really good. But we should be cautious when we label something as 'Christian". Much of this so-called Christian music has nothing to do with Christianity. Some of it is just sensual worldly music sung by a person who sometimes goes to a church. We have to make a clear distinction here. Lets think about it-is there a such thing as a Christian whore? I can not see the difference some times.

I am a Wiccan (ex-christian). I have no problem with any type of music I just don't listen to CCM or country western. Artists should sing about what they feel and it is up to us whether or not we choose to listen to it.

Some of the CCM is ok, but overall I'm not fond of it. I love the hymns and I love accapella music - when I worship in music I like it to be at a speed that it can come from my soul, and not just emotionally charged, which I witness quite frequently - a lot of times, I think they forget those of us who grew up on the hymns and are older, require a little more breath and oxygen! I am a Spirit and Truth Christian - I listen mostly to the music at church, but at home I sing them in worship to the Lord so that we can commune in Spirit and in lung capacity I'm capable of!

I'm a christian and enjoy CCM. With that said, I still don't care for much rap or other songs where you can't really understand the lyrics.

This is a tough one to answer. I personally don't care for most CCM, but as it brings a lot of people closer to Christ, I have no place to say it is wrong. I think it is more of a question of personal taste rather than wrong vs. right. As a Christian, and a minister, I have to accept that God wants to reach all people and I don't always understand every tool He chooses to use. Who am I to say that God can't use Christian Rap to reach young people? That would be mighty presumptive of me... and dangerous, as from that point I would be putting limits on God based on the way I think. Or am I the only one who remembers the Bible saying "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."

First off let me state that I'm a Christian. Contemporary Christian music is fine. The style of music used to worship God doesn't matter, the content and motive behind the songs are what counts. I myself listen to Christian heavy metal and I find that the presence of God is just as strong when I listen to that as it is when I listen to Contemporary or the old hymns.

I think its fine. I knew a Pastor that got "fired" from his church due to his message against CCM. And then he was "hired" as the pastor of my church. (This was years ago, before I stopped going to church). It boggled my mind. His thing was that it doesn't sound like worship music, and it leads teens into the secular world.

I disagree. I think its fine. The message is no diffrent, and styles of music appeal to diffrent people, so whats the harm. If you want to sing your heart out, and worship God, does God really care if the beat of rock music accompanies it? Its still praise and music, no matter what the beat is.

Christian. CCM is fine.

Do a Bible search on "new song" and you'll find lots of hits.

Psa 33:3 Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.

Psa 40:3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, [even] praise unto our God: many shall see [it], and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

Psa 96:1 O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth.

Psa 144:9 I will sing a new song unto thee, O God: upon a psaltery [and] an instrument of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee.

As a Christian, I celebrate anything that glorifies God!!

There has always been controversy surrounding attempts to make praise more contemporary.

In the 1800's one song, which resulted from the changing of lyrics from a popular barroom song caused great controversy.

That song was Amazing Grace!!!!

I don't see any problem with CCM; it is a way of making money, it is economically viable. If people want to listen they can....

If people don't like it then don't listen. I don't see what the harm could be.

I used to be very Christian; I belonged to AWANAs, had bible study groups, went to Nazarene church, etc. I used to love the bands Fighter and DC Talk (I still listen to Jesus Freak from time to time). I love music, though, so I listened not just for the message, but for the music, as well. I have no problem with Christian music, though I don't go out of my way to listen to it. I respect other people's views of music and would not force them to listen to something they did not want to, as I would expect the same courtesy.

It is out there because it sells. If you like it, great, but please don't make me listen to it. Of course I feel the same way about other types of music I dislike as well...I don't need to hear about the "biatches and hos" from your $300 car with the $3000 stereo.

Personally, I prefer older choir-sung songs. I do not understand guitars and harmonicas in churches.

IT is a poor substitute for real music. secular music in my opinion isnt really secular since God is all things.
