How do you *know* god is real?

I know gravity is real because I feel it. Time is real because I experience it. I know evolution is real because it's been well documented using the scientific method. But what how do you *know* for a fact god is real? All these other things can be tested by anyone in the world and come to the same conclusion. But with god there is no such thing.

There are never any good answers to this question. Christians believe the bible supports a God and usually see it without error, while everyone else (even religious scholars) see it as full of errors. You cannot even suspect advanced alien intelligence much less godly intelligence in any of our holy books. Feelings can make you believe all sorts of irrational things are true or real. That is why we need feelings to align with the intellect in order to maintain rationality. It is always interesting when a theist attempts a deeper understanding to help answer questions that they don't really have good answers to, only to lead themselves right into becoming an ex-theist.



It really can seem that God is real, and you can achieve all sorts of wonderful feelings "thinking" about it. But that is why we love fiction, it gets us thinking, which produces real feelings of joy, sadness, excitement etc that is great, but those feelings as real as they are doesn't make what you are thinking about real. Theists don't seem to understand this and use their real feelings as evidence that the God/Goddess they are thinking of is real.

It saddens Jehovah to see such injustice. Read Genesis 6:5,6. Jehovah is a God who cares about us. he wants us to enjoy life. Soon he will eliminate suffering and those who cause it. I've heard many disbelievers say that their reason for unbelief is because God did not answer their prayer to 'not allow mum to die' etc. or to 'not have prevented their partner from going bankrupt'.  Those people are the ones who only ever give God a thought when under pressure.  God wants a relationship with His children regularly, not just when in trouble.



As a regular church-going child I did not understand what Jesus was all about but, years later, I began to understand what He went through on the Cross of Calvary, how He suffered and died a cruel death FOR ME. On that day, the sins of the entire world were placed on Him and for OUR sins He died. He had never sinned in any way and God said that only a perfect being could be a sacrifice for ALL sin. That is what Jesus was - our sacrificial lamb.  Accepting Him as our Saviour is the ONLY way to eternal life when this life is over. The alternative is too awful to even contemplate.

Well, let us first see that the Bible is a book of truth.



Number 1: Are the Jews are real people?



If you answer, "Yes", then move to question #2.



Number 2: Why the Jews are called "Jews"?



If you don't know, look to the Bible where the Jews are called Jews because they descended from the tribe of Judah.Genesis 29:35 And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah…KJV

Look and see if there is any other answer. There isn't any acceptable answer for the truth is accepted by the world.



Number 3: Now that the Jews are real people and they are in the Bible, ask yourself why Jews don't take Jesus as Lord and Savior and why they don't believe Jesus is the Messiah?



If you don't know, the answer is that the Jews holy text, the Tanakh/Old Testament was written before the coming of Jesus. This helps provide proof that the whole Bible (Old Testament/New Testament) were not written at the same time.



Now if we know that the Old Testament and the New Testament were not written at the same time, then the prophecies and foreshadowings of the Old Testament could not have been made up. Rather, they were made in advance and fulfilled later on.



The fulfilled prophecies and foreshadowings are THE ULTIMATE PROOF of GOD.



What are some prophecies and foreshadowings given by God in the Tanakh/Old Testament that have come to be fulfilled, you may ask.



Now let's look at the Tanakh/Old Testament foreshadowings/prophecies concerning Jesus.

1) Messiah was to be born in Bethlehem---Micah 5:2

2) the King/Messiah was to bring salvation was to ride into Jerusalem on an donkey, upon a colt, the foal of an donkey-----Zechariah 9:9

3) the price of Jesus' betrayal was told to be 30 pieces of silver, told who would end up with the money (the potter), and where the silver would be cast (the house of the Lord-----Zechariah 11:13

4) that the hands and feet would be pierced-----Psalm 22:16

5) that He would be born of a virgin---Isaiah 7:14

6) that He would be pierced for our transgressions---Isaiah 53:5

7) that He would die with wicked, be assigned a rich man's grave, though He had done no violence or said anything deceitful---Isaiah 53:9



One foreshadowing fulfilled by Jesus is the Passover Lamb.



The Passover lamb died on the 14th of Nisan. Its' blood was placed on the door frames of the Israelites homes to protect the Israelites from the angel of death and the plague of the first born males. Those that had faith that the blood of the lamb would save them (the Israelites) were protected from physical death. The Egyptians, who did not have faith in the blood, physically died. No bones were to be broken on the Passover lamb.



Jesus, the true Passover Lamb, died on the 14th of Nisan. Those who have faith in the blood of Jesus to save them will be not face spiritual death.  Those who do not believe will suffer spiritual death/eternal torment in the lake of fire. No bones were broken on Jesus.



One foreshadowing you may not have known of is the names of the first ten descendants/genealogy of Jesus found in Genesis chapter 5.Look at the genealogy from Adam to Noah.



In our Bible, we read the Hebrew names. What are the translated meaning of these names?

Adam-----------Man

Seth-------------Appointed

Enosh-----------Mortal

Kenan------------Sorrow

Mahalalel-----------The Blessed God

Jared-----------------Shall come down

Enoch-----------------Teaching

The resulting message/foreshadowing is:

Man (is) appointed mortal sorrow; (but) the Blessed God shall come down teaching (that) His death shall bring (the) despairing rest.



There is the good news of Jesus in the genealogy from Adam to Noah.So there is proof that Jesus is the Son of God from the Tanakh/Old Testament which was written hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus.Jesus appeared to me in a dream---what a tremendous blessing.



One fulfilled prophecy that was recently fulfilled was the Isaiah 9:10 prophecy that the best-selling book the Harbinger was about.

The only reasonable response is that the Bible is God's gift to mankind to show us what God wants from us and how he expects us to act and what the future is.God wants us to know that Jesus/Yeshua is the Son of God and is the Savior of the world.



No one can get eternal life/heavenly life without faith in Jesus and repentance of our sinful ways.We are all sinners and unless we have faith in Jesus, his blood cannot pay the penalty for our sins. #1 - If feeling is your only basis, you believe gravity is real because you feel something and someone told you, "That's gravity." If that same person had told you, "That's magnetism.", you probably would have believed that. You can know that gravity is real (by observation), but feeling it is insufficient. You're feeling SOMETHING, but the feeling by itself does not inform you that what you are feeling is gravity.



#2 - I agree with this. It's the experience, the personal observation, that proves a thing, that makes a thing for us KNOWLEDGE rather than BELIEF, and we all experience the passage of time in a way that is (practically) indisputable. It can't be mistaken for the passage of something else, and it can't be mistaken as a passage when in fact there is no passage. The only argument against it is one of perception (and philosophical rather than practical): do we really perceive the passage of time, or is the passage of time some sort of illusion?



#3 - You believe evolution is real because you believe that the documented evidence, probably little or none of which you have actually personally read, is truthful and otherwise valid. You don't KNOW it is real unless you, personally, have observed evolution. In this example you are clearly mischaracterizing belief as knowledge.

I don't think we can know whether God is real but we can certainly believe! A lot of what we call knowledge is actually belief. You mentioned gravity and time. I agree they are real but are you sure that you really know them or you just believe them base on your feeling and what you have learned from others. How do you know that we are not living in a virtual reality of some kind so gravity and time are just an illusion? I think if you're honest, you really don't know if gravity and time are real but you believe them like most of us do. This is the same reason why many people, including I believe in God. Here's some things to consider. For starters, while it can be said that Jehovah God is a being beyond the science we currently have, the way Jehovah God exists to begin with CAN be explained in the realms of science that we have, even if our understanding isn't complete as of yet. Energy has been noted as always existing, never being destroyed but simply being redistributed elsewhere. So a being with access to (as well as being the producer of) said energy, would also be able to exist into the endless past. Considering the age of the universe and the amount of energy used for it to function as it does, for a being to have created it all would require having more intelligence, more longevity, and more power than anything in existence. In the very least, this being would be considered god-LIKE, so it wouldn't be surprising for this being to deify themselves in the eyes of their creation, as well as leave a way for them to know who they are and that they exist(the Bible), as well as a unique way to communicate with them(prayer). 



According to the Bible, people will never understand fully who Jehovah is, and that's with an infinite amount of time to do so. (Ecclesiastes 3:11) However, it doesn't mean we can't have a relationship with Him, and we are encouraged to do so. (John 17:3) Through the Bible, we can come to know who He is, His likes/dislikes, and what He plans for the future of mankind. 



On a personal note, I have experienced Jehovah's existence in regards to prayer. I have prayed for answers/solutions to things and the answers came fairly quickly(& sometimes not so quickly...), with the individuals or circumstances being out of my control delivering just what I needed and when I needed it. Some would just pass it off as 'consistent coincidence' or 'good luck', but to discredit Jehovah would be foolish on my part. Also, true Biblical understanding only comes with Jehovah's help. (James 1:5; Proverbs 3:5 & 6) Not in regards just reading words and understanding they form sentences, but getting the real sense of the message the Bible is giving. One that wants to know Jehovah will recognize it when they see it or feel it, you just have to be patient at times.
