What is the Evangelical and Baptist definition of a sin?

Growing up going to Evangelical / Baptist Sunday school and VBS, I was taught that a sin is a sin is a sin is a sin. There were no bigger sins that other sins. there were not white sins, that any sin is just a sin, so murder, adultery and a white lie were just a "sin". This didnt make sense to me as a child.. the adults insisted they were correct. Naturally i grew up and out of church.

Now with the advent of the internet, I am asking Evangelicals and Baptists now here and in public to please elaborate or correct what i was told as a child:

Where in the bible does it say that all sins are simply sins, a sin is just a sin, there is no bigger or smaller sin

thx

Let's say you were changing a baby's bm diaper and you got a little on you. And then while you were changing the diaper the baby all of a sudden had a case of projectile diarrhea. Even if you got a little soiled or a lot soiled you would still be soiled. Either way you have to clean up.

The same way with sin. Sin a little or sin a lot either way you are still soiled with sin.

Sin can be defined in a number of ways, but this places one's focus on the wrong thing. Christians are: dead to sin, and freed from sin. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ. Churches, such as the Baptist, focus on sin in order to control people. It is a tool. They set themselves up as guides for avoiding sin. The end result is people who end up dependent upon a ministry they support monetarily, and there is absolutely no spiritual growth.

The bible has the authority to teach what is a sin over the leader of some denomination. That piece of paper sitting in a book when testifying on its own behalf only needs the reader to think for themselves to determine whether what it says is true. Most modern preachers use the bible as a prop to graft money from the average workaday, nominal Christian who puts no actual thought into why the bible says what it does.

The sin of a lying tongue is equal to the sin of killing a person. There is no difference in a sin from another sin, but the effect of different sins do more damage to us than other sins. The sin of Sexual Immorality does more damage to the body than the sin of stealing an apple. They both are a sin, but one does more damage.

Sin is transgression of God's perfect and holy Law. Just as the Bible says.

That is pretty much decided church-by-church. There are a lot more sins in the south than there are in the northeast. (in the USA)

All sin is equally far from God. Now, there are some sins that are "stronger" than others, like sexual sin. But, he who has sin cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven because God is holy and pure. But, thankfully he sent His only Son to be born of a virgin and live a perfect life so that He may be a perfect sacrifice, to cleanse all sin of those who call upon his name in repentance and love.

the adults were right every sin is the same a sin

it says in the book of james

james 2:10-11

10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

you can do everything god says to do but if you tell a lie its a sin and your guilty of breaking all of god's laws. god said not to lie, cheat, steal, and many other things. if you break one part of the law you are guilty of breaking all of god's law is what james is saying.

there are no white lies. a lie is a. lie god said not to lie. if you do it is a sin.

man adjusts god's word to get away with sinning

all unrepentant sin leads to one place that is hell and the lake of fire

god says

Exodus 32:33

And the Lord said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book. (the book of life)

so any sin will cause our name to be blotted out of the book of life

repenting and seeking the salvation of god saves our name from being blotted out of the book of life

Revelation 3:5

He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

rev 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
