What is there stance on Afterlife, and all that

I'm currently, Catholic, been raised Catholic. But lately I find myself not agreeing with a whole lot things that church say, but I definitely do believe in God. What I really don't agree with when it comes to the whole try to convert everyone and if your not a Christian you will go to hell. I personally don't really believe in a hell, I just believe that if you really deserve it, you just cease to exist, but I do believe in an afterlife for everyone else. But anyways, I've been thinking about converting to Deism, because it seems to fit what I pretty much believe for the most part, but also I don't really know much about it. So can anybody help me out?

Generally, a deist believes that a creator god(s) created the universe and set everything to spinning, then sat back to watch. The creator god is not involved in the daily affairs of men. The purposes this god has are revealed through natural philosophy and reason, not priestly oracles

A theist believes in a god or gods that are involved in day to day existence, influencing events on earth and involved with the affairs of worshipers who pray to him/her/it/them. This god reveals his will through revealations, visions, etc.

Deism is simply the belief that some kind of god created the universe but has done nothing since. There are no other beliefs common to all deists. Some believe in an afterlife and some don't. There is no "deist religion" to convert to - like atheism, it is a belief that some people have, no more than that.

Theists, of course, correspond to religion and the idea that god intervenes in the world all the time.

I'm Deist. Deism is the belief in a "Supreme Being" that after the creation of all that we know today and will ever exist, the God backed off after wards. Deists do not believe in anything claiming to be the written word of God, nor do they believe in miracles, prophecies, Divine Intervention (the belief that God has control over every ones life, and control over everything). Most Deists hope for an afterlife, although most just think that we cease to exist after death. Some do believe in reincarnation. Deism is based on reason. They believe that God made us, and created the laws of physics and made them to where the universe would operate around them. He made us to follow reason. He did not create a set of moral codes for us to live by but instead designed us to create our own moral codes and too live in peace and harmony (hopefully) with other people. There are a few Deism sites that involved further depth into what Deism is. Here are a few. Or you could go to http://www.google.com/ and type in Deism beliefs. I hope you make the decision that YOU believe is correct. It took me forever to figure out what I believed in. I was raised Christian-Baptist then I was Atheist and then I turned and am staying with Deism. Just follow your heart. Think deeply about what you want to believe in. This decision makes up a massive amount of your life. It dictates the way you live. Here are a few sites.

Also, Theism states that the God is in active control with the universe and that there is at least one Deity, meaning God

And Deism was just explained! :)

I hope this helps you very much!!!!!

Deism is not an organized religion and Christianity is an organized religion. Deism has been around for a while and its basic concepts is that a diety or God does exist, Deism in the philosophy of religion is the standpoint that reason and observation of the natural world, without the need for organized religion, can determine that a supreme being created the universe. From what I read deism has a few people in its history that kinda set the standards for the basis of this ideology, some of those peoples oppinions on things differ though. Here something that might help you understand more. Critical elements of deist thought included: Rejection of all religions based on books that claim to contain the revealed word of God. Rejection of reports of miracles, prophecies and religious "mysteries". Constructive elements of deist thought included: God exists, created and governs the universe. God gave humans the ability to reason. God wants human beings to behave morally.

Well dear, I personally believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. And in his word he does say that there is a hell, and he also says that the only way to Heaven is to believe that he is the Way, the Truth, and the Light, and that there is no other way to Heaven. So I don't really know what to tell you. I think u better study God's word first good and see what it tells you. It might be bad of me but I have a very hard time believing something cause a Priest or Pastor tells me about God. I have to look it up myself. If God says it in his word. I believe it. I believe the bible is God's inspired word, I do understand that we go through different times in our lives where we see things different, but don't believe like some people say that God tells me one thing and you another. If God did that, he would be a liar, and he is not.He died for all of us and for all the sins in this world, So if I see something now that I might not have seen at another time in my life, it is not because he means something different for everyone. Try to study his word, instead of believing what the Priest says about God and all they believe. You will find that God's word contains milk, meat and strong meat, and u need to be able to see this and see the differences between the three. I will pray for you and may God bless you.

A theist believes there is at least one god who is actively in a relationship with the universe.

A deist believes that there was a divine creator, but has since left the universe to run on it's own.

Compare jet pilot and a clockmaker. The pilot has to continually control the plane, all the clockmaker has to do is set it once, and it will run by itself.

Since the other answerer's defined deist i'll answer the other question

deists are theists, non-religious theists.. obviously, since they believe God is just idle.

just because you disagree with that catholic church (i do, too) does not mean you can't still follow Christ.

A deist is a type of theist - they believe that there is a creator deity, but that it has nothing to do with our lives. All it did was create our world and then it stepped back and did not interfere thereafter.

Theists believe in God. Not specified as anything but the belief in a God, several religions fall into this category.

Deists believe in a higher being, above our universe that created us. Not necessarily all-knowing or all-powerful, just bigger than us.

you are smart, and headed down the right intellectual path. Always remember, when contemplating God, define what you conceive him to be. If he is conceived by you as "all powerful" then he is by definition unfathomable and inconceivable. If he is unfathomable and inconceivable, then he is unable to be thought about. So, if you are thinking about him then you are contradicting yourself. Mistake not, I am not presupposing that you regard god in this way, I am merely using this instance as an example in which to demonstrate the best way to consider questions about God in general. That is to do so logically.

God requires all who are searching for the truth to study the bible and all pertinent material for their salvation. For, Christ has told us not to put our trust in any man. While it is honorable that people honor Jesus Christ's mother (Mary who was an virgin), the Catholic doctrine has been in error in worshipping her, and in esteming the Pope as the mediator between God and the Catholic church parishioners.

For, in the New Testament teachings of Christ, God has only made one High Priest for all men as the mediator between man and God. In addition, according to New Testament teachings of Christ, all who become Christians become royal priests and do not need the Pope, or any person to come to God in their behalf, save only our High Priest Jesus Christ. Read the book of Hebrew ~ chapters 2 through 13, and prove these things for yourself.

I am quite sure that if you ask this of any priest in your current church, they will "tell" you something different, for fear of every Catholic would leave Catholism. This would greatly effect their position in the church, and monetary financial gain, not to mention the Pope's. This is nothing new, because Jesus had to deal with men such as those in leadership in the Catholic church and other religions where man is not teaching the truth and abiding by it, which was how the chief priests (popes), the scribes (scholars of the law), and the Pharisees which were leaders of the people were, even towards Jesus who they conspired to kill and did crucify. John 12:9-11; 17-19; Jhn 12:42-43; Matthew 26:3-5

2Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

1Thessalonians 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

According to God, he has commanded all men to hear and believe only his Son Jesus Christ (Hebrew 1:1-14; John 3:16-18; Matthew 17:5), and obey his gospel (I Corinthians 15:1-5; Romans1:16; 2Thessalonians 1:7-8; 1Peter 4:17 which is in the New Testament teachings of the bible. It is only by the gospel of Jesus Christ whereby God has made him to be the mediator between Him and all mankind. I would implore you to study the New Testament teachings of Christ for yourself, ask questions, and then study again to see if the things that someone has told you are true, or not.

How does one obey the Gospel of Christ and be added to the one Church?

(1) Hear that Jesus is the Son of God, and that he died, was buried and arose the third day.

(2) Believe this to be true.

(3) Repent of past sins committed.

(4) Confess that Jesus is the Son of God and is risen.

(5) Baptism to have past sins washed away, and to be added to Christ body, which is his church. (Acts: 2:38-47; Acts 8:32 - 37) (1 Corinthians 12:13).

Belief that God made the Universe, but does not intervene in it. But that's the stupidest idea since atheism.
