He beat her with a belt for downloading some music! She has cerebral palsy. Apparently this happened to her a lot. Unfortunately, the statute of limitations has run and he can't be prosecuted. But something should be done to this horrible person.

Panel, your judgment? What is your sentence for this accused child abuser?

Get rid of the statute of limitations on child abuse, then prosecute him.

I read this article earlier and it sickened me, as well as the sickos in the comments who AGREED with this bastard in his method of "disciplining" his child. Everything from people saying she needed to be whipped for doing something illegal to "loving Christians" quoting the damn "spare the rod, spoil the child" line.

First off, no, she should not have downloaded illegal music. However, that is NOT a reason to whip her with a belt. Get rid of the computer, or, seeing as how this scumbag is a JUDGE, have her do community service or some **** to show that her actions have consequenses.

But to whip her with a f-cking BELT?! What age are we in?! The 21st century or the stone ages?!

If that man(and oh do I use that term VERY loosely!) had taken a belt to a grown man, he'd be charged with assault and battery. But because this is his 16 year old daughter, apparently assault and battery is an "acceptable" form of discipline.

I do not approve of hitting or slapping or spanking children under any circumstances. It did not work on me as a child and only teaches your children to be deathly afraid of those who are their caretakers and supposed to LOVE them. How is it "love" when your child is so terrified of being around you that they VIDEOTAPE you whipping them in a cry for help to stop the abuse?!

Children need discipline, but they shouldn't have to be afraid of their parents to be disciplined.

That man needs to be punished to the max and absolutely, positively, should NOT remain a judge, let alone a judge in f-cking family court where he decides the fate of other abusive parents who probably get time for doing LESS to their kids than he did!

Well, he should certainly be hotlined to DFS (as I'm sure he was).

And once an investigation has been completed and/or a case opened, the judge should have to complete the same written service plan as any other parent would in the same circumstances.

It can still be hotlined even if the statute of limitations for criminal prosecution has expired.

One of the unfortunate consequences of this great democracy is that judges are almost immune from the very laws they prosecute us for. The founding fathers had to do this in order to prevent them from being scared of making unpopular judgments. The only thing we can do is unseat him.

However, the court of popular opinion can make that easier. Keep spreading the word.

I am a peace-loving person - I try to seek harmony when I can.

But, in this case I think he should be whipped with a belt - quid pro quo - whipped by a person who is 50% stronger than him, 20% taller than him, and 80 pounds heavier that him. --

Sometimes, the only way we can learn not to hurt other peope is to know how it feels to get hurt. (physically or mentally)

PS: If I were the judge - I would give him a choice -- 3 years in the penetentiary or be whipped in a similar manner (as described above)

i'm an atheist, yet: a million) Correlation != causation (mutually because it rather is achieveable to point a causative dating between the two variables, demonstrating this is yet another count completely. As yet another achieveable hypothesis, how on the subject of the Savanna-IQ interplay hypothesis?) 2) pattern length consequences would desire to in finished or partly clarify the stated variations, counting on the learn we are conversing approximately. there is another low-putting methodological fruit i will forget approximately approximately as nicely. 3) length of severe IQs is unreliable, that's an obtrusive bias that's not achieveable to superb for completely... Medians may be much extra exciting than ability for this manner of assessment. 4) there are diverse different subject concerns with IQ exams, which in spite of the reality that doesn't advise they're completely invalid, form of makes the stated distinction distinctly "meh" And as form of a sub-factor to #a million, all of us comprehend that IQ correlates with academic attainment, and that academic attainment correlates negatively with religiosity, and there's a splash bit learn between CAM (complementary and option drugs) and academic attainment... a lot of which, might advise that Nyborg's hypothesis is distinctly "meh". --- Like extremely, there is plenty extra effective belongings you would be able to desire to consult with theists as adversarial to this. this is the only reason I replied.

He's not responsible for his actions, so he's innocent. But even in being innocent, he must be punished so that his behavior is changed, assuming you think beating a child is "wrong".

@ Lady Morgana. I'm very glad you asked me this. Let me clarify. If you accept a naturalistic view of evolution as I do, then human beings are entirely determined by genetics and environment, over which they have no control. So there cannot be any such thing as freedom of choice or personal accountability.

In reality, the sane person has no more accountability than the psychotic person. If you think about the implications of a totally naturalistic view of evolution, you'll see that this is true.

Thus technically everyone is innocent, as they aren't personally responsible for their actions. But the innocent must be punished so that their behaviors will be changed. You seem to have a sense that people are responsible for their actions, which is due to your presumed belief in a libertarian notion of free will. Unless you can justify a belief in a truly free will, then you cannot say that the judge is responsible for what he did.

The judge may know right from wrong, but moral knowledge is a necessary but not sufficient condition for responsibility. All the moral knowledge in the world will not give you an iota of responsibility if you don't have the capacity to make a true choice.

The cerebral palsy does not seem to be true from all the internet stuff.

From what I saw, she did not seem to feel abused. This was several yrs ago. If she feels he needs help...why wait?!?

I think she is now peed off at him for something & 'getting even!'

Where I came from....butt whippings are what kept us from doing bad things!! It didnt kill us, that for sure!

The Bible says "spare the rod........"

The law should be followed. But keep in mind, a parent (as well as teachers) have the right to use corporal punishment in Texas. If it left bruises, then it would be abuse.

First, take him off the bench. Take his pension away. Make him serve 5 years of community service in a home for abused women and girls, serving meals.

I think statute of limitations on things like child abuse and rape should be taken away just like it is with murder.

However nobody ever really escapes their Crimes.

The typical Texas punishment -- the death penalty.

And people like this sit in judgment of others. It's depressing.
