Question:
Why do people generally categorize religion as an opinion?

First of all, I must say I am not trying to assert anyone's actual religious beliefs, not even my own. I'm just asking why religion is considered opinion in today's society. After all, the dictionary basically says that an opinion is any idea or conclusion that isn't backed by any form of logic (note that it doesn't matter how flawed the logic is; it's still logic). I have never heard of a religion with no logic behind it.

Also, for another question, why do most people say they know things through faith? Faith is believing what you don't know or reason with, making 'knowing through faith' contradictory (I personally am faithless, and I still believe in God; I believe what I can conclude on my own correct, and will stop believing if adequately proven wrong).

Religion is the banana skinn, and spirituality is the banana. Religion has three aspects - values, rituals and symbols.

The rituals and symbols forms the logic portion you talk about - because it is a good way of taking one to the actual values.

If I ask you to meditate, to look deep with in you to experience that you are peice, you may not go and do that with out giving a reason - because the intellect does not go for something that is not profitable from its perspective.

If you read the latest innovation in the field of science like string theory and hyperspace, it is completely out of logic - so does spirituality.

In science, knowledge brings faith. But in spirituality, faith brings knowledge - because faith is the best tool you can have to experience your inner being, your true nature, by settling your mind, by going beyond the zone of logic - because the nature of energy/conciousness that fills everything and anything is beyond logic.

Science ends in wonder - go deep in to anything, it brings you wonder.

Spirituality starts with wonder. When you are like a child, when you wonder at everything, you get amuzed by the play and display of conciousness - and you experience the joy that is bubbling up with in you with out any reason

Facts are for things that can be proven.

Opinions are for things that cannot be proven.

By that standard, religious beliefs are an opinion, because the validity of those beliefs cannot be proven one way or the other. There is no proof of whose are factually right, though many are of the OPINION that their beliefs are right.

Because that is all it is, one persons word, over anothers. Its pretty straight forward.

Its the - My Daddy is stronger than your Daddy - thing. Whoevers Daddy is the Strongest of them all - is the Winner!

Then the Winner, gets to tell everyone else - what they can do or say - if you don't conform - the Winner will Crush you like a bug!

Becuase many dont want to submit to the plan God has for them.I like to call it the Lucifer Complex.

Faith along with prayer and patience is the way God has given us to communicate with Him.Faith in Jesus Christ opens our heart up so God can speak to us and use us.
