The question may not be the best, but it has a valid query in the background somewhere...In advance thanks for reading.
I was an atheist at one point in my life, but i'm now a Christian. I could never find any evidence of God in the godless individuals who had claimed to be christians in my life back then, but I see things a little differenly now.......
So here is how it works, based on 5+ years of intense study of scripture. You can do the legwork if you like but it's all there waiting for you to discover. FYI - I even disagree with many Christians regarding the doctrines they have settled upon as it can lack cohesion with other scriptures.......[for another time]
Here goes.
1. God doesn't control your life
2. He doesn't make bad things happen to you or any others.
3. The bible is a compilation of many books written by many authors who all say the same thing in one way or another, each in their own style, from different locations, cultures, time periods.....
4. OT God is like a father spanking his kids, NT God is like a father imparting wisdom and reason for all the OT spankings to his now adolescent children.
5. The bible is also a road map to better living, this is what was left behind after all the spankings and wisdom.....
Now it's up to us to learn from it, and grow. This is the sole reason that God does not interfer with natural disasters in any way......we need to learn and grow - in what way you ask? How can anyone learn and grow when they are drowned to death in a tsunami?
Here's how I see God in my every day life. Countless people from all over the world gave up their time and money to assist these individuals in rebuilding their lives. The same happened with Hurricane Katrina - mission teams spent their time and money to be Jesus to these people so that they could get back on their feet. Christians, not all of them but at least the real ones, see those who have nothing and attempt to fill their needs - Jesus told us that this was one of the things we HAD to do to in order to be obedient to God's word. These type of Christians WANT to do this, not because they Have to.
If I was not a Christian it would be easy for me to say that it was not my business to help them and I should stay out of it....more of a selfish attitude than anything else. Or I can think that if it was God plan that they all drown [which I've already said it wasn't] then helping them is in direct violation to his plan so i'll abstain from helping. [bad logic]
So.......I see God each and every day when....
1. I see a homeless man blessed with a $20 and a warm meal, by a Christian
2. I see a shelter open up for battered women, by Christians
3. when you buy coffee for the person behind you at the drive though at Starbucks, and you don't need any recognition for it..... by a Christian
4. When you take the time to mow your neighbors lawn becuase they are in a wheelchair [you give them their legs back when you do this]
5. when you are thankful for the blessing in your life even though you just got laid off [not dwelling on the bad, but thankfull you still have a family and a roof over your head, etc....]
6. when you are willing to give to others even though it means you will go without.
7. when you bite your tongue even though you've just been chewed out by some ignorant individual.....
The list goes on and on. God works through the body of the church, through Christians as they go out and be Jesus to those around them in their community. They've understood God's cause, they've read his Word, they've placed it in their hearts and minds, and they've decided it's better to be this way than to ask God to do stupid tricks so that they can prove to others he is real. they decide that leading by example is much much better.
We are all sinners who want nothing than to satisfy ourselves, when it comes down to brass tacks. Christians strive to move against the grain, what the "world" tells them is acceptable, and listen to what the Bible tells them they ought to be doing. this is the Very Basic concept of what it means to be Christian - difference in doctrines are usually outside of these things and usually due to a lack of scriptural knowledge. After all Jesus spoke about one way, one God, how to Love....i'm pretty sure that he'd not see Today's Christianity as what he left us with in 33 AD.
Not all Christians are like this, there are many that give real Christians a bad name - nothing we can do about it, but if you dwell on their mistakes you will never see the truth peering out from behind the veil.
Beside, I can't Get god to do anything he hasn't already promised us he'd do.
Hope this shines some light.
PS - Theophilus is totally right...........
God Bless.
