Jesus read the Old Testament.

The scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him. Luke 4:17

When he came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures. Luke 4:16

Christianity is about believing that the messiah promised in the OT has already come and that man was Jesus. Christians read the old testament because they believe that Jesus is prophesied in it. Also Christianity used to be a sect within Judaism until the first century of the Common Era.

Because Jesus Christ and his followers referred to texts in the "Old Testament" as “the Scriptures” and “the holy Scriptures.” (Matthew 21:42; Romans 1:2) After the Christian congregation was established, Jesus’ followers continued to use the Hebrew Scriptures to highlight prophecies that were yet to be fulfilled, principles from the Mosaic Law that taught valuable lessons, and accounts of ancient servants of God whose fine examples encourage Christians to remain faithful. (Acts 2:16-21; 1 Corinthians 9:9, 10; Hebrews 11:1–12:1) “All Scripture,” wrote the apostle Paul, “is inspired of God and beneficial.” (2 Timothy 3:16) As a matter of fact, the "entire" Bible has but one theme: The Kingdom under Jesus Christ is the means by which the vindication of God’s sovereignty and the sanctification of His name will be accomplished. (Daniel 2:44; Revelation 11:15)

As it is scripture, it has several uses (2Tim 3:16-17). Below are three specific ones.

It contains prophecies about Jesus and other events (ex: Mic 5:2; Mt 2:1).

It gives us examples of how God dealt with disobedient people back then, so we will have a sense of how he will deal with disobedient people today, and take warning from it (1 Cor 10:1-12).

It supports many teachings found in the NT such as being kind to one's enemies.

The Old Testament explains much of the things that Jesus did: His birth in Bethlehem, His redemption as the first-born, John the Baptist, His going to the Temple at 12, His teaching in the Temple, His problems with the Pharisees, His going to synagogues, et al.

Without the OT, we'd be constantly asking, "What is He doing now and why is He doing that?"

What is past is prologue.

Because of 2 Tim. 3:16 all scriptures both old and new testament are inspired by God and beneficial for teaching. Reading about the past helps us understand about God and what he requires. By reading all of Gods word we will benefit from Gods dealing with his people and the laws given them help us understand as well as do his will.

Because Jesus read it. Luke Luke 4:16-18 He came to Nazareth where he had been reared. As he always did on the Sabbath, he went to the meeting place. When he stood up to read, he was handed the scroll of the prophet Isaiah. Unrolling the scroll, he found the place where it was written, God's Spirit is on me; he's chosen me to preach the Message of good news to the poor, Sent me to announce pardon to prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind, To set the burdened and battered free,

They didnt. Which is why theyre all destined to go to hell.

The teachings of the bible, like the Quran are rigid and set in stone.

Most if not all have broken them and continue to do so.

This means they go to hell- No ifs, no buts. You broke the rules ,you go to hell.

No no, bit late for explanations now. There are no clauses, no free out. If you broke the rules, even so much as a single. Then you spend eternity being ripped apart over and over.

Do you not understand ?

Or secretly not believe.

The Old Testament is God's Word, for one thing. 2) It is the foundation of Christianity, and establishes the prophecies that Jesus fulfilled. 3) The Old Testament gives us the timeline for Jesus' birth, its location, and other information cogent to our Lord and Savior's 1st Advent.

Many great events leading up to the arrival of Jesus. Many prophecies that got fulfilled in the New Testament. Many great people whom God used, with great stories and wisdom. The Psalms are incredible works of art in their inspiration and beauty. Proverbs are works of art in their wisdom, and my favorite book in the OT.

Things really get cooking when Jesus hits the scene, and His words are the gold standard. It's more up to date. So I, like most people, aim more for the New Testament than the old. Yet the old still is as inspired by God as the new, and is an important part of understanding the Bible as a whole.

It's all good.

Because The Bible brings out that it was written for our benefit at Roman 15:4 so even the Old Testament is helpful to us.

It's just a "teaser" for the "good part".

Reading the Old Testament has a kathartic effect, once you realize that it doesn't apply to you.

Matthew 5, 17-19: Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to

you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till

Whoever

all is fulfilled.

therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

The Old Testament allows us to learn how to love and serve God, and it reveals more about God’s character.
