Do you like them? Do you think they're necessary? Does whether or not you follow them depend on who made them?
I personally don't particularly like rules, but I understand their necessity (sometimes).

I only follow the ones I make or agree with, the ones that are for safety or for community wellbeing (like picking up after your dog).

There aren't too terribly many rules I have a problem with. I've known people that think we don't need rules and I can see that side of the coin but I don't agree with it. To take an example of rules many think are useless or silly - I like the rules of etiquette. Etiquette is supposed to make everyone feel comfortable because they know what is expected of them and what is expected of others. Being polite, gracious, and attempting to make others feel comfortable are all good things in my opinion.
If I don't like the rules somewhere then I just don't go there rather than continue to try to bend or break the rules to suit me. I may find it difficult to be quite in a library but if I'm studying in there I want others to be quite so I'm happy to be quite when I'm there. It's rare that I don't understand the rules somewhere.

Rules are there to restrict the personal freedoms of the individual.
Sometimes it is necessary to do this to protect society from anti-social acts by the individual.
The trick and the political debate is on how to balance the liberty of the individual given by the society, and the potential damage to society that those individual liberties can cause. At one end it totalitarianism, at the other anarchy. But where is the optimum balance point? Ask 20 different people and you will get 19 different answers.

Put simply, we need rules to survive. If we stopped having rules we'd get killed. Look at yourself for example; imagine if your body stopped having rules, you'd likely get sick or die because diseases would invade your body and the laws of gravity would plop you down and turn you into a ******* puddle.
If we Americans stopped having rules the chinese would ******* kill us because they would more efficiently be able to generate wealth by comparison to our would be pitiful lawless economy. They and everyone else would catch up, we'd have no defense to speak of except for primal instincts so we'd be like INSECTS compared to the rest of the world's might. Or wait, no, we'd just be like a stupid giant because we got all the nukes.
Rules make our country strong. When you disobey the law you don't weaken your country, you weaken your people, because remember our country enforces the law and the more lawlessness we have, the more neccessary it becomes for the government to tighten its grip. Stop getting caught.
I personally, only follow rules if they are enforced because if we stopped enforcing rules you couldn't stop others from committing crimes, so why should I obey the law if no one else does?

I guess some rules are made to be broken and others are not. I live by the basic principle of do not do to others what you wouldn't want done to you. I feel as long as you live by this simple rule you can't go wrong.
Also, i will follow rules that might end up costing me money or will land me in jail, so i do follow laws, of course.

Rules and laws create order. Without them we would have chaos. Look at any problem people have on a micro or macro scale and you will see some natural or spiritual law being broken. Millions of people in the world aren't exactly dying of HIV because they have followed the rules.

I'm very for the ones that work. But very against the ones that do not. I break the rules I feel need to be broken usually they are just a useless waste of time.

The bad ones are made to be broken. The good ones, if written properly, are made to be followed. Essentially, rules are for those who either can't, won't, or just flat out refuse to think for themselves. I consider the Bible to be a rule-book in this regard...

In my opinion i don't like the rules but i think i must obey it. they are necessary that why they term as rules. yes exactly i care before i follow who made it because i want to make rule for me myself.

I don't like following orders but, strangely, I don't usually have a big problem with "the rules" unless they don't make any sense. Like... the rules of the road, the rule of law, certain "social niceties" rules (though I tend to ignore these more often).

(((Linz!))) Where have you been all my life? lol :-)
I do not particularly like rules. I prefer to be able to make my own judgments, as I am perfectly capable of doing. I do not like for my government, employer, etc. to mandate my behavior as long as it does not harm others. However I do feel that some rules are necessary, as long as we don't go overboard with them.
Whether or not I follow certain rules does not so much depend on who made them as much as it depends on my interpretation of them. I am always one to question rules that seem unnecessary to me.

In general I think rules are necessary for people to co-exist.

Depends on what mood I'm in...
Sometimes I like them, I enforce them or Strongly follow them... Other times I LOVE to break them ^_^
A few laws too, LOL, I bet none of you knew that about me!
And not just graffiti, I broke other laws as well... not that I'm bragging ;)

Rules are needed to restore order. For example, if there are no driving traffic rules, commuting to work would be total chaos.

Some keep you safe, some help, some hurt, and some keep others from wasting time and resources.
With out rules you are left with anarchy.

There is a difference with rules and law.
Law is sometimes necessary, rules aren't.

Overall rules are good because it disciplines you and also protects or shapes you depending on the rule. so yes

I have never been able to blindly follow rules. I find most of them designed to keep idiots out of difficulty. I am not an idiot.

NO, Linz...
Honestly, I believe that "Rules" were "made to be broken".
After all, I never was asked for MY imput, nor MY agreement to comply, when They made these rules.
Presumptuous, at best.

i have no problem with em. maybe because i have no problem following authority. of course we need them. anywhere from governing society to parent/child relationships.
2008-10-20 18:43:14 UTC
it totally depends...
some rules are necessary...some are pointless.
i follow the ones that make sense.
