They make Dr. House out to be miserable but all the atheists I have met are pretty happy. What about you guys? Do you have any miserable atheists experiences you would like to share with the class?

Well, atheists are not miserable. They are like religious people, following their own beliefs. But there could be an atheist who is miserable because they have a person or thing to turn to when they feel alone in this world.

I use to be very, very depressed like 'I want to commit suicide' depressed. Then, I turned to my religion, because before I was kinda religious but not really. And I became happy, I felt that even if everyone in the world hated me, even if I had no friends, even if all these things were wrong with my life my Lord would always be there for me. He would be the one that I could turn to when I asked myself, "Would anyone notice if I didn't show up to school today, or ever?" Or "Would my 'friends' mourn for me if I committed suicide?" And now I am happy, have found new meaning in my life and feel fulfilled.

If someone was like me, and they didn't believe in a god then what would save them? They would most likely be miserable. But a lot of atheists are nice people who love and cherish the things they have in life. They have family and friends who they know care about them.

Religion, or lack of such, does not correlate with the events in someones life that may lead to conditions such as depression. Depression can be caused by situations, which can arise in theistic or atheistic lifestyles, whether it be job loss, relationships going south, negative performance in school, etc.

Depression can also be caused by genetic predisposition, or physical accident leading to brain damage.

None of these things have anything to do with a person's religions preference.

The only possible correlation would be, not that atheists are unhappy, just that theists may tend to be happy. Theists will sometimes say that they have a sense of fulfillment in their lives due to their religion. They go on to say that even in dark times, religion gives them hope. This can help to counteract the above causes of depression that affect both theists and atheists equally.

I am miserable and I am an atheist. But I'm not miserable because I'm an atheist. The assumption that atheism plays a causal role in the misery of an atheist (if the atheist in question is miserable), is the one that many theists share. The assumption is incorrect. As a counter-example, my misery is caused by idiotic theists who make false assumptions.

I don't see how an atheist could be happy because in atheism, there is nothing to hope for, nothing to put your faith and trust in, and nothing to give anyone purpose. So where would they get there joy? Earthly pleasures that fade and leave them sick afterword? None of the atheists I've ever met are truly happy. Somewhere inside, they are miserable but they try to hide it like anyone would.

I'm one, but my misery comes from living among all of the idiots out there. When I think about what a better world we would inhabit without all of their nonsense and obstructionism and conservatism and wars over whose belief system is the best - how can I NOT be miserable? How can the rest of you atheists? This is something that I'd really like some feedback on. Feel free to email me if you can elucidate on the topic.

All human beings have times/events in their lives where they are miserable for varying periods of time. Some of those humans are atheists.

Blessings on your Journey!

a million. i imagine the point those atheists attempt to make is that god isn't somewhat as loving as yo say he's. He drowned each guy lady, newborn, unborn newborn, and animal because he wasn't pleased with humanity. 2. ought to you call human beings's reaction to the holocaust melodramatic? What about the Turkish slaughter of the Arminians? the ecu witch craze? of route no longer. They were terrible issues that befell. they are very unhappy cases and the single's that allowed those issues to ensue or ordered them to ensue are demonized to on the present time because they were poor disgustingly cruel issues. the human beings who did those issues had their causes for why they did them, yet that would not excuse them or make it any a lot less terrible. this is an identical way with god. it would not remember if he had his causes, he nevertheless did terrible issues that, if any human did them, must be observed as unforgivable. this is no longer being melodramatic, this is being lifelike. 3. If human beings under no circumstances died we ought to have used up all of our organic substances a lengthy time period in the past. We does no longer have had a Nazi get jointly because the Germany ought to have under no circumstances been in such deep debt or in such an poor state because there does no longer were a international warfare one because Franz Ferdinand under no circumstances ought to have died. the international must be a thoroughly different position. 4. i have under no circumstances complained about god under no circumstances talking to me. in my opinion, i'd somewhat him no longer. He looks bossy and boastful to me and that i don't love those kinds of folk. i have under no circumstances needed nor requested for some thing from god. 5. i'm very grateful for my existence. i'm grateful to my moms and dads, who gave me that existence. 6. once again, this is no longer being a crybaby, a minimum of no longer from my attitude. this is being lifelike.

I'm atheist, i wouldn't say that not believing in a god has made me depressed in any way, and one of my best friend's atheist and she's one of the liveliest people i know. I don't think you could ever label atheists as 'miserable', they're normal people

They tend to be happy on the outside but one cannot experience true happiness until Christ lives in their heart.
