Question:
Atheists and theists, who has a better answer to the unexplained phenomena of existence?
anonymous

atheists;
science- it doesnt explain all but we continue to seek answers through theories

theists;
religion and God- it doesnt explain all but we have testimony and hundreds of thousands of accounts of supernatural phenomena that science cant explain and is seeking answers too.

Well, given that there is documentation and unexplainable phenomena, I'm gonna logically choose theism as the better answer!!!

Forrest Gump may give us a clue to the answer. Though he's talking about fate or chance, I see it as applying to logic and intuition as well. Left brain and right brain. Proof and experience. Science and Spirit.

"I don't know if Momma was right or if, if it's Lieutenant Dan. I don't know if we each have a destiny, or if we're all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze, but I, I think maybe it's both. Maybe both is happening at the same time."

I happen to think that there is an Intelligence behind creation, and that this Intelligence (God) used evolution as His means to create. Not one or the other, but both happening at the same time.

The very existence of the universe itself is evidence that there is a God. Let's think about this for a moment. There are only three options for the existence of the universe. One is that it has always been. Another is that it came out of being by itself. The third is that it was created. The first option, that the universe is eternal, has been utterly rejected by the scientific community. The motion of the galaxies, the background radiation echo, and other evidences all overwhelmingly point to the fact that the universe sprang into existence at a particular point in time, something scientist call the Big Bang.

The second option, that the universe created itself, is philosophically impossible. Of course, before the universe existed it would not have been around to do the creating. Obviously, a nonexistent universe could not have done anything! It did not exist. We all know that nothing cannot do anything. Nothing is nothing. It, if we could even call nothing in it, cannot see, smell, act, or create. So option one and two can be thrown out on scientific and philosophical grounds.

The third option, that something or someone outside of the universe created the universe, is the only reasonable option. Let's imagine I am holding up a painting. When you see a painting, what proof do you need to establish the fact that a painter exists? Nothing besides the painting itself. The painting is absolute proof to believe that he or she exists. The painting is all the evidence you need. It would not be there if the painter did not exist, and so it is with the universe. The existence of the universe itself proves absolutely that there is a Creator.

how in any way is that logical?

your assertion that religion doesn't explain everything is wrong. it attempts to explain the unexplainable through god. anything they do not understand "godidit". they are not still looking for any answers, and as of yet there is no supernatural phenomena presented that can stand up to science.

the logical choice would be atheist, because its absurd to believe something before there is evidence for it. saying being theist is logical is illogical.

There is no phenomena that is unexplainable, but simply as yet unexplained.

Religion fails miserably because it is absolute, dictated by a single authority. The authority is held to be infallible, and when it is shown to be wrong, it is simply covered up, or "reinterpreted".

Science is superior because it is willing to be swayed by logic, reason and evidence, contributed by the whole of the scientific community, and makes no absolute claims.

What documentation of unexplainable phenomena? Please give examples.

Also, unexplained is not the same as unexplainable. Just because we don't have the answers doesn't mean we never will or never can. Even if we can NEVER figure certain things out it doesn't mean that God did it, it just means we don't know.

Science is still wearing diapers... It will take many more years to figure out!

Christians are opposed to the idea of finding out!

Pat Robertson REALLY hate SCIENCE because it contradicts the Bible. NOBODY can POSSIBLY imagine what America would be like with Pat Robertson as President! Pat has millions of Christians in America supporting him with a lot of money! He believes that science is a Communist plot to hurt America!

A scientist looks at the evidence and can’t help to draw conclusions while Christians read some of the Bible and look around for supporting evidence… REAL SCIENCE is still wearing diapers! Up until recent history CHRISTIANS IMPOSED THEIR VIEWS ON SCIENCE BY LAW!

Logically???

You have to be kidding me!

Testimony = anecdote =/= data

The bible is not 'documentation'

What are these supernatural phenomena that are unexplained (and even if they are unexplained, what makes you think that will always be the case - people used to think that lightning came from the gods too) ?

"Goddidit" explains nothing. It's a cop out. How, why, when, where, with what? See. it answers precisely nothing.

atheists:

We have no explanation yet, that's why they're called "unexplained" phenomena.

theists:

Even though we can't prove it, we *know* God did it.

scientists of either category:

... and we'll keep looking for a better answer.

Please stop assuming atheists and scientists are the same group.

*unexplained phenomena, not unexplainable

There was a time when epilepsy was thought to be caused by demons...that was religion's idea, wasn't it? I'll stick with reason.

Well considering we are not a completely advanced society so there for your argument is invalid. We are still a developing society and obviously your logic is illogical.

Well, that must be a step in the right direction for sure! You are right. There are many testimonies of supernatural things happening and it is not imaginary as the Atheists would like to accuse us of and do continually. We know what the truth is. Jesus is alive and he forgives and he answers prayer. He promised to answer if we pray in his name. Praise God! So, if you are already saved you can do this---if not, just repent and ask Jesus to come into your heart and be your Lord and Savior. When they say heart, they mean the center of your life. God bless you.

John 14:13-14 (King James Version)

13And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

Salvation:

For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23, see also Rom. 6:23

24 I can guarantee this truth: A single grain of wheat doesn’t produce anything unless it is planted in the ground and dies. If it dies, it will produce a lot of grain. 25 Those who love their lives will destroy them, and those who hate their lives in this world will guard them for everlasting life. John 12:24-25 (GOD’S WORD Translation)

For the sorrow according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation; but the sorrow of the world produces death. II Corinthians 7:10

If we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive us all our sins, and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness. I John 1:9, see also Isaiah 43:25

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If any man (or woman or child) hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and sup with him and he with me. Revelation 3:20, see also Ezekiel 36:26

Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, and times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord. Acts 3:19, see also Isaiah 1:18

For as many as received Him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them who believe on His name. John 1:12, see also Ephesians 2:8-10

If any man (woman or child) be in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. II Corinthians 5:17, see also Ez. 36:27

For more understanding about salvation read: Isaiah 1:18-19; 55:6-9, Ephesians 2:8-10, Ezekiel 36:26-27. May God be with you now. Jesus is the way, the true way, the only way.

Science, of course. Theology gives us unquestioned answers. Science gives us evidence.

The *only* answer is that it is - as you describe it - unexplained. Anyone who pretends differentlly (see: theists) is selling something.

What you've described is agnostics and theists.
