When saying "God Damnit" you are saying the Lord's name in vain. (It's #3 in the ten commandments.)

Now, I've never heard of the mother's maiden name part but Christians still don't like it.

It's more like someone keeps on yelling out your name, then you turn around to see who it was but they didn't want your attention. After a while it gets annoying.

You're the same thing to God.

We are made in the image of God and the Angels, which includes our ability to love. God very often in Scripture using the analogy of the family unit as a method of teaching. Just as a human father would disipline and teach his children, so is the same with God. This is a teaching method. If someone tells you not to try to understand God because the concept is too big for you brain, then you are speaking to a biblically illiterate idiot. Perhaps you should hold your opinion for when you speak to someone who is knowledgeable of Gods Word, Gods mandates and Gods common sense teaching. Here is a thought for you: There is exactly the same amount of evidence that no God exists as there is that God does exist, so I suggest very strongly that you be at least 50% respectful and at least 50% open-minded. Why? Because you have obviously not tried to have a relationship with God, nor do you have any idea of the Scriptures that God sent so that you would not be confused like you are. The teachings are clear and full of wisdom and common sense. You choose to listen to any person no matter how unlearned they may be, who might try to answer your questions the best they know how, but you are taking whatever they say and holding it against a hundred million people. Instead of doing that, why not learn something yourself instead of mocking something you do not understand? Example: I still see Churches teaching that you will end up in a burning pit called hell and there forever and ever your flesh will burn and you will scream in agony. Ever hear that? Well, this would come from someone who does not understand Greek Idioms so commonly used in Scripture. Those who think they are headed for hell, are according to the manuscripts, headed for a classroom - THEY WILL BE TAUGHT, NOT BURNED. And yes, as a parent if my child does wrong, I respond by teaching the child, not by causing my child horrible pain. If you wish to condemn your own Creator, thats your business, but its only sensible to understand why you are condemning Him and yourself when you are doing it because some idiot said something stupid. If I say something stupid about eating food, will you stop eating? If I say something stupid about working or driving a car, will you stop driving and quit your job? Then why would you react this way because some idiot said something stupid about our Lord? No offense, but that seems kinda immature.

I've done that to people I work with who frequently say "Jesus Christ" as an exclamation or a curse word. When something makes me upset I angrily holler my co worker's name. After a few times they usually get irritated and ask me what's going on. I tell them that the name Jesus is Holy. I respect and reverence that name because it's the name of my God who came down to this earth to show me how much He loves me, by dying for my sins. So I am offended by their disrespectfull use of His name, and He is not pleased with it either, just as my coworker isn't pleased with his name being used disrespectfully and in anger. I only do this once, just to get the opportunity to get my point across. If they continue to use Jesus' name in vain, I ignore it. It's between them and God. God says in the 3rd commandment of the Decalogue that He "will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain".

I honestly don't see when the big deal is. God is a title, not a name. The phrase "god damn it" could be referring to any male deity.

Now, it would be completely different if people were going around saying "Jehova damn it" or something instead...

It is using God's name in vain.

Breaking one of His commandments first off- that right there should tell you it is wrong to say that.

It always bothers me when I hear it- I love the Lord- and I want others to know of His love, instead of blashphemy his name.

It should bother any christian to hear this said....just like it bothers us when we see sin all around us- or if we sin ourselves it really bothers us! (conviction!) sin is so ugly, I hate it! And I understand why God hates it.....God is good!

Nobody can match the goodness of God~

I know by saying that you are taking the Lord's name in vain however I am still unsure of why this is wrong. I would really like to know though!

Thou Shalt not take the name of the Lord you God in Vain. This is a commandment. To me hearing that is very offensive and hurtfull. I know the people who say it don't realize this. My husband says it when he gets very very mad and I hate it when he says that. He doesn't mean it as a slur to God. To him it is just a word. But it is more than that to God. Enough so that it was made a commandment. Something God Commands of us.

I've never actually heard of this, to me it seems rather pointless. Maybe it's a way of trying to insult the person? That's a good question though.

its worse either way, using someone elses name is not nice and taking the lords name in vain is worse, cursing is just dumbing down yourself, there are so many words to use to vent frustration, anger, etc that cursing just makes people look unintelligent.

Never heard of doing that. The only response to that statement that I have heard on a regular basis is, "God doesn't need a dam, He can walk on water!"

I love Jesus, and

you use my beloved's name as a curse.

(are you starting to see the correlation yet?)

You love your mother, so

I use your beloved's name as a curse.

Eye for eye, tooth for tooth it's nearly perfect I'd say.

BTW: What is your mothers maiden name Chippy?

I have honestly never even heard of someone doing that, much less done it myself. I would agree the practice is ridiculous.
