Mary's Assumption into Heaven

Gen. 5:24, Heb. 11:5 - Enoch was bodily assumed into heaven without dying. Would God do any less for Mary the Ark of the New Covenant?

2 Kings 2:11-12; 1 Mac 2:58 - Elijah was assumed into heaven in fiery chariot. Jesus would not do any less for His Blessed Mother.

Psalm 132:8 - Arise, O Lord, and go to thy resting place, thou and the Ark (Mary) of thy might. Both Jesus and Mary were taken up to their eternal resting place in heaven.

2 Cor. 12:2 - Paul speaks of a man in Christ who was caught up to the third heaven. Mary was also brought up into heaven by God.

Matt. 27:52-53 - when Jesus died and rose, the bodies of the saints were raised. Nothing in Scripture precludes Mary's assumption into heaven.

1 Thess. 4:17 - we shall be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and so we shall always be with the Lord.

Rev. 12:1 - we see Mary, the "woman," clothed with the sun. While in Rev. 6:9 we only see the souls of the martyrs in heaven, in Rev. 12:1 we see Mary, both body and soul.

2 Thess. 2:15 - Paul instructs us to hold fast to oral (not just written) tradition. Apostolic tradition says Mary was assumed into heaven. While claiming the bones of the saints was a common practice during these times (and would have been especially important to obtain Mary's bones as she was the Mother of God), Mary's bones were never claimed. This is because they were not available. Mary was taken up body and soul into heaven.

Mary's Coronation in Heaven

2 Tim 4:8 - Paul says that there is laid up for him the crown of righteousness. The saints are crowned in heaven, and Mary is the greatest saint of all.

James 1:12 - those who endure will receive the crown of life which God has promised. Mary has received the crown of life by bringing eternal life to the world.

1 Peter 5:4 - when the chief Shepherd is manifested we will receive the unfading crown of glory.

Rev. 2:10 - Jesus will give the faithful unto death the crown of life. Jesus gave Mary His Mother the crown of life.

Rev. 12:1 - Mary, the "woman," is crowned with twelve stars. She is Queen of heaven and earth and the Mother of the Church.

Wis. 5:16 - we will receive a glorious crown and a beautiful diadem from the hand of the Lord. Mary is with Jesus forever crowned in His glory.

Mary's queenship is simply logic, really. Jesus is the king. In a traditional kingdom, the queen was the mother, not wife, of the king. Mary is mother of Jesus the king. Therefore, Mary is queen.

Her assumption is tradition. We do know that 2 people in the OT were assumed straight in to heaven as well(Moses and Elijah I think), so we at least know it happens. Then considering the Catholic and Orthodox belief about Mary being preserved from sin, the reasonable conclusion is that she was pure enough to be assumed as well. The belief is generally that she died naturally and was assumed into heaven immediately afterward.

March 25, is the social gathering of the Annunciation -- the fact by potential of the angel Gabriel that Mary became to bear a son at the same time as last a virgin; this could be a generally going on and intensely usual social gathering between the Orthodox. notice that it is 9 months till now Dec 25. What i hit upon ordinary is that Islam honors Mary because of the fact the virgin mom of Jesus, yet considers Jesus to be basically a prophet. God went to a brilliant style of hassle to deliver a prophet into the worldwide, if it incredibly is so. No, Jesus is a lot greater advantageous than a prophet; he's the incarnation of God himself, between the Trinity.

For some curious reason, you have missed out the Anglican Church which has The Assumption as a feast day (Sunday 15 August 2010). The Orthodox believe in the "dormination" of The Blessed Virgin Mary and an alternative title of the feast in the Anglican Church is the "falling asleep" of The Blessed Virgin Mary. As far as I remember the Papal Bull speaks about Our Lady's Assumption taking place "when Her time on earth was completed".

Revelation, Chapter 12

12:1 A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.

2 She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth.

5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod. Her child was caught up to God and his throne.

6 The woman herself fled into the desert where she had a place prepared by God, that there she might be taken care of for twelve hundred and sixty days.

The birth of St Mary is a miracle from heaven [12:1]

Queen of Heaven - "on her head a crown of twelve stars". Then both body and soul God prepared and took her in a PLACE where she is taken care of. [12:6}

Such that, biblically, St Mary was taken to heaven and occupies a very senior position in heaven, next to Jesus.

Sacred Tradition, about the assumption, we learned this from the Apostles -- but this is part of the schism. The Orthodox believe she was assumed into heaven after death, we Catholics believe she was alive.

As for the Queen of Heaven -- again, Sacred Tradition.

1) Queenship is rooted in scripture, as well as human logic to describe her simple relationship with God. He got to choose his mother. Since Jesus is king.. it follows that his mother would be queen.

Not equal to him.. not higher in power. Not a god or demigod.. but none the less.. Queen of heaven.

The turn Theotokos is part of this... it means "God bearer" and apptly describes her role.

Mary has been given many earthly titles NOT to make her higher then God or even equal to him..but simply to describe her ROLES, her position. To honor the mother or our Lord and Saviour. If we TRULY love Jesus.. then how can we NOT love and adore his mother? It is dishonest to say we love Jesus but not love his family.. the mother he CHOSE from all generations throughout time.

No one but God got to choose his own mother.. and yet God chose Mary. How can we honestly ignore that and yet profess with our lips to love and follow Jesus?

Secondly, the bible says that if we follow God, then we are his sons and daughters. We are all part of his body.. the body of Christ. IF we truly follow God and are therefore his children, as the bible says.. then that would also make Mary our mother... since she is the mother of Christ and we are his brothers and sisters through our belief and submission to the Father.

It would be a violation of the commandments to not honor and love our mother.. Mary.

2) Assumption is a belief which is not recorded in the bible but was taught to us by the Apostles themselves. Its roots date back to the very FIRST generation of Christians and what they recorded in the catacombs while they were forced underground by the Romans. This is a limitation of the bible as the only source of faith, as the bible stops with the travels of the Apostles and does not continue on after their death. Christianity did not end with the Apostles.. it began.. yet non-Catholics go only by the bible, acting as if we can not know ANYTHING beyond about 100AD when the last book was authored.

The apostles taught the early Christians MANY THINGS.. not all of which was written by the bible. The earliest records we have attest to the belief that Mary was assumed. It was not until the 20th century that the Catholic church FINALLY made this an official teaching..but it was only because it was a belief that existed since the beginning of Christianity (1st-2nd centuries)

Secondly, the bible teaches that the wages of sin is DEATH. However, Elijiah and Enoch did not taste death because they were righteous and without sin. So there is precendence for the righteous being spared physical death. The Earliest Christians believe this is precisely WHY Mary didn't die and lay in a grave but was 'assumed' into heaven.

Nothing in the bible contradicts this, since her death is not mentioned. The fact that her death is not mentioned is another example that not every occurrence is explicitly stated in the bible.

Mary’s queenship has roots in Scripture. At the Annunciation, Gabriel announced that Mary’s Son would receive the throne of David and rule forever. At the Visitation, Elizabeth calls Mary “mother of my Lord.” As in all the mysteries of Mary’s life, Mary is closely associated with Jesus: Her queenship is a share in Jesus’ kingship.

In Romans 8:28–30, God has predestined human beings from all eternity to share the image of his Son. All the more was Mary predestined to be the mother of Jesus. As Jesus was to be king of all creation, Mary, in dependence on Jesus, was to be queen. All other titles to queenship derive from this eternal intention of God. As Jesus exercised his kingship on earth by serving his Father and his fellow human beings, so did Mary exercise her queenship.

As Jesus remains with us as our king till the end of time (Matthew 28:20), so does Mary, who was assumed into heaven and crowned queen of heaven and earth.

It's all made up by men who have woman issues of a deep dark nature.

Jesus didn't say it.

The Holy Spirit is silent about it.

God the father laughs at it.

I'm taking nothing away from the sanctity of Motherhood.

We all have mothers and for those who were loved and are loved by their mother then blessed be them.

In my own opinion I cannot reconcile myself to this belief.

I prefer the Magdalene.

Now there is a woman.

A woman whom a Pope defiled way back hundreds of years ago as a sinner...a receptacle of demons and a unrepentant whore and it took until 1969 for them to declare they were wrong.

The assumption is just another idea like Purgatory..Limbo..Transubstantiation.

It's a panacea for Catholics to divert there true attention from the living God.

It's a imago dei for God who is too busy that he employs saints and the Mother of God as a form of receptionist to his busy schedule.

Come on and strike me down dead if I am wrong.

By what power invested in your mortal frame Pope of God can you say I am wrong...You who say you are infallible.

As a former RC I know exactly the tomfoolery that goes on in the minds of the women haters. The same minds that sit a woman at the back of the church quiet and in servitude to the ideas that spring forth from the thoughts of men.

She lived and She died as we all do except Her son who died then lived for our sakes.

So blessed be the womb that bore the son...but let us leave it at that and leave her in peace.

Being an ex catholic and now a born again believer, I can honestly say that Mary died and will be raptured with the rest. She may have a special place in heaven for being the mother of Jesus, but she is not the Queen of heaven and should not be prayed to as if she was a god. Jesus is the only God we should pray to, talk to, be in awe of and love.

have no idea where they came up with this as the apostles dont mention this, except Christ crucified for us to take on the wrath of God for us, while we were yet sinners. Nothing about Mary being queen of heaven. as Christ was before she was born, so I am sure Christ also gave His life for the virgin Mary, who by the way had other children and was not without sin. as Paul mentions "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. the reason Christ came into the world. to redeem us

She was "assumed" as the story goes, taken up suddenly. I don't buy it. As far as being Queen of Heaven, I don't buy that pagan title either. It has a long pre-Christian history. If she is queen, then her husband is her son.

Yours in Christ, Nick

If she is a queen in Heaven, that would imply worship and only God is to be worship.
