My daughter was 27 and she passed away from cancer. She got cancer because she was a smoker. I told her to stop smoking but she said that she is an adult and she can do whatever she wants. So I just let her smoke. And my daughter was also an atheist. So is she burning in hell right now? :(

No. The concept of eternal torture in Hell is not Biblical. God is swift to judgement but not sadistic, He would not let people he created be eternally tortured. There is also no where in the Bible that says we have an immortal soul that leaves our bodies when we die. When we die, we are dead, there is no memory, no knowledge. At some point in the future, Jesus is going to return. Everyone will be raised from the dead and judged. Those judged worthy will live forever in physical bodies (but changed to be immortal bodies) in the Kingdom on earth. Those judged not worthy will be destroyed. I have no idea how your daughter will be judged but it is up to God. If she was a good person then she has just a good a chance as anyone else, even if she was an athiest. So there is hope that she may have salvation at judgement day.

There is no evidence that hell exists, so I doubt she is burning there.

The only hell that exists is what is called sheol or hades, hebrew and greek terms for that English word. Without going into Gehenna or the Lake of fire, let me simply state that death is the return to non-existence for all - believers and unbelievers, good and wicked.

The pickle is encountered in that resurrections are promised the righteous into a paradisaic earth - once the kingdom has been established. What exactly Paradise is - becomes a matter of interpretation for some would label it Paradise while others wouldn't. Here one would have to be content in the knowledge that those in Paradise would no longer engage in wars, or the destruction of the earth during peace or war, as we do today. There would no longer be the mega rich or the very poor. Clearly, many would not like that.

Some Bible translations use the word “hell” for the Hebrew word “Sheol” and the matching Greek word “Hades,” both of which refer to the common grave of mankind. (Psalm 16:10; Acts 2:27) Many people believe in a fiery hell, as shown in the religious artwork accompanying this article. However, the Bible teaches otherwise.

Those in hell are unconscious and so cannot feel pain. “There is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol.”—Ecclesiastes 9:10.

Good people go to hell. The faithful men Jacob and Job expected to go there.—Genesis 37:35; Job 14:13.

Death, not torment in a fiery hell, is the penalty for sin. “He who has died has been acquitted from his sin.”—Romans 6:7.

Eternal torment would violate God’s justice. (Deuteronomy 32:4) When the first man, Adam, sinned, God told him that his punishment would simply be to pass out of existence: “Dust you are and to dust you will return.” (Genesis 3:19) God would have been lying if he were actually sending Adam to a fiery hell.

God does not even contemplate eternal torment. The idea that he would punish people in hellfire is contrary to the Bible’s teaching that “God is love.”—1 John 4:8; Jeremiah 7:31.

Hell isn't a fiery pit, but separation from God. I'm sorry you lost your daughter so young. You had no way to know the cigarettes would take her life that young. Many people who smoke live much longer than that.

The Pope has said that it's possible for atheists to go to Heaven. I hope your daughter is one of the atheists who made it there.

I have experienced some things which gave me evidence on a personal level that the consciousness exists beyond the physical. Quantum physics also supports this (google doule slit experiment) which shows that matter is an illusion. Over 99.9999% of ALL matter is empty space and whats left (electrons and quarks) pop into and out of existence (behave as a wave or a particle) depending on one thing.... whether or not there is a CONSCIOUS observer. This means consciousness and NOT MATTER is the basis of the Universe. Matter is only energy vibratiing at a slow state of vibration to manifest. And it's conscious observation which makes it manifest!! Since even our brains are made of these same particles then 1) WHO is consciously observing our brains into existence? and 2) consciousness exists OUTSIDE of the physical. That means when the physical body dies, consciousness does NOT! Now back to my experiences... I have experienced what is called astral projection (out of body) experiences. I have directly experienced what consciousness is outside of the physical. It was NOT dreams. I can't prove it to you or anyone else. You have to experience it yourself. But suffice to say, we are ALL spiritual beings who do not die. Consciousness is neither born nor does it die. You have been here before in other transmigrations. Eventually we ALL merge back to ONEness. Because the ultimate truth to the Universe is ONEess. There is no separation. And the divine light is within everyone. Your daughter is not gone. She has just changed states. And she can hear you and still remembers her existence and her family etc. Trust me.

No, your daughter is not burning in hell. The doctrine of hell is not a Bible base teaching. Jehovah is a God of love. Loving parents do not throw their children into the fire, and Jehovah does not torture people in such a way. (1 John 4:8) . The Bible hell, then, is the common grave of mankind where good people as well as bad ones go.

I have felt too sympathetic when I read your question. Some parents while raising their children they tell lies to their children in order to keep them virtuous. They think that their children are too young to understand the facts and moral. I think that the same thing is going on in the Christian religion. The Christian leaders seems don't worry about the consequences.

I believe in God. God exists. I myself am a living evidence for the existence of God. Your daughter will not burn in hell. She is not anywhere in any form.

God never bothers who believe Him. God cannot watch each and every human being at the same time. That's why He had created the spirits to watch, guide and determine the destiny of the human beings from their daily activities, talks and thoughts too. Your past determines your present and your present determines your future. God has given freewill to all creatures including human beings. According to this, all human beings have all right to live a life as they wish. But if it happens to be bad and hurts someone, they have to face the consequences. These consequences are created by spirits. It's a natural system. After death no one lives in any form. Heaven and hell are only for spirits. Spirits are separate elements. A human being is not a single spirit. A human being during his/her life time is living with many spirits which have joined one by one since birth. They are knowledge, skills, feelings, emotions, interests and everything. Even thoughts are not your own. When you want to take a decision on a subject, one after another the spirits think and you just listen, choose or reject the ideas which they transmit to your mind through your brain in the form of thoughts. A human being is just a robot made of flesh, bones, tissues etc., and a toy of the spirits for their games.

I am Hindu. Hindu religion believe in reincarnation but I don't. We may study anything but we must always see what is truth in it. The above matter (paragraph) is related to my personal experience. God is a mystery even to spirits. That's why you are able to see atheists in this world even at this temporary miraculous era.

A human mind is like a computer's mind. You will not get the mind of a computer after it is destroyed completely. The same is the case with human beings. Even if you happen to hear your daughter's voice after sometime you must not think that it's your daughter. It's a part of your daughter i.e., a spirit. It's not she. It must have accompanied your daughter when she was alive. I am hearing many spirits' voices every day. These voices are my relatives' voices. They are still alive. These spirits are living with me in France. The relatives related to those voices are living in India. It is a long time story. From this I have understood that no one lives in any form after death and at least a spirit represents each person who took part in your life. Only these spirits remind you often those people and make you think about them.

Therefore you don't worry. Think that she is in peace. Only this thought can give peace to you and the spirits related to your daughter as well. You may also speak in this way to your friends who understood you well, so that the watching spirits may rest in peace and quit.

First of all NO she is not burning in Hell! First of all smoking won't damn anyone to hell and 2nd of all - upon death all spirits go to Paradise (remember Christ on the cross promising the THIEF beside him this very thing?) - in this spirit existence she and all spirits will learn of the Plan of Salvation if they have not fully learned or understood it in this life - and can CHOOSE for themselves to accept or reject it before the time of the resurrection and judgement day when ALL SOULS will stand before their Maker and be judged based on their hearts, who they became in this life, their knowledge, how much did we love our neighbor, how honest were we and so forth - There is hope for all because ALL will receive a degree of glory in the eternities, except the truly evil & wicked.

No. The apostle Paul states that the person who dies is “acquitted [form of di·kai·oʹo] from his sin,” having paid the penalty of death.—Ro 6:7, 23.

The apostle Paul said to a group of Jews who also entertained the hope of a resurrection that “there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.”—Ac 24:15.

Revelation 21:4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes,+ and death will be no more,+ neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.+ The former things have passed away.”

The Lord Jesus Christ tells us exactly that there is nothing from outside of a person that enters into them can contaminate them (with sin); because it does not enter into the heart: but it is rather that which comes out of a person is what contaminates them (corrupts them). For from within out of the heart proceeds evil thoughts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, an evil eye, pride, foolishness, and such like things: these are the things which corrupt (contaminate with sin) the person; but the smoking of a cigarette does not corrupt the person; that is an invented trend of the secular world, and many half-hearted churches just went along and followed the world. In times past no such thinking was thought of concerning cigarettes.

HELL DOES NOT EXIST,LIKE RELIGION AND THE BIBLE,it was thought up in the demented disturbed minds of pathetic weaklings,in the hope it would have to take away the thought of impending death which all of us have to face eventually, and was used by unscrupulous men originally to gain control and power over the masses,by promising a paradise where no one died or grew old,in fact it was the first scam on this planet, and people still believe this rubbish after 2.000 years,I wish I had thought of it right.

Good question. For starters, it'd be good to know what the term 'hell' means in the Bible. The word is translated from the Hebrew and Greek terms 'hades' and 'sheol', both of which refer to the common grave of mankind, and even animals. The breakdown process of their flesh and bone is known as going 'back to dust', since it's a breakdown to the bare elements until they cease to exist. (Ecclesiastes 3:19 & 20) During this process, the individual/animal is unconscious and feels nothing, so there is no suffering involved once they are dead. (Ecclesiastes 9:5 & 10)

Interestingly enough though, there will come a point in the future where those deemed righteous in Jehovah's eyes, as well as the 'unrighteous'(those who died before finding out who Jehovah was...) will be brought back to life. (John 5:28 & 29) Once alive again, those that didn't know Jehovah or His principles will be given the chance to learn about Him and continue living along with the righteous.

Hi, sorry to hear the news of your daughter's passing, well as i would believe no true Christian wants anyone to go to hell although some people have done so much killing, murdering, evil etc that you'd think they deserved some sort of punishment. But the only thing I can say is that the bible says that acceptance of Jesus before one dies wipes out all sin.

Who knows that in her last moments she repented of her sin asked Jesus to save her as smetimes that happens when a person has no other alternative they think 'I wonder if what those crazy christians have been saying is true or give it an try God if you're up there like they say ,save me forgive me for all the wrong I've done i've wrestled with the notion of you're being real but if you do really exist please forgive me of all the wrong I've done, I'm sorry.

I believe many people have cried out to God in their last moments and as God said those that come to him ,he will not turn away.God is just so someone has t pay for the sins we've committed justice has to be satisfied ; if she chose to in her last moments, asked then god is merciful and kind doesn't want to destroy us but wants to save us that's why He sent Jesus i th first place. If He didn't love us so much why go through all the trouble of sending Him ,He could just allowed us to get what we deserve and yes that is to pay for our crimes/sins but God is truly merciful ,more than we can fathom so understand ,He cares,

The thing is we shouldn't wait that long ,until our death bed to make an confession or consider and repent of sins because today is the day of salvation and no one is promised tomorrow and we don't want to run the risks of a exceptionally hardened heart . Some- many people have repented of their wrong/sins in their lasts moments being sincere and have more than likely been accepted by God as He said He would as the thief on the cross hanging next to Jesus attests ,This day you shall be with me in paradise the man couldn't do any works or anything ,he just repented of his wrongs having considered and knew that he was guilty of crimes against God's laws asked forgiveness but began to think about the possibilities...needless to say as the bible says he was forgiven and now as Jesus said is in paradise with Him. God bless and sorry again to hear of your loss but hopefully heaven's gain.

Hell is a man-made concept. Stop torturing yourself. Your daughter is NOT burning alive in some fire pit for eternity. There is not such thing as spirits going up or down. She has passed and not suffering anymore. Be at peace with what you had with her and the good memories and stop living in your own created Hell.

Smoking has NOTHING to do with where your child spends eternity...what matters is did she accept the FREE GIFT of SALVATION through Jesus Christ.....that is what matters

the Bible states :Mar 7:15

There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.

16 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

18 And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;

20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.

21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

I did not believe an atheist could go to heaven until recently. I became a full gospel Christian in 1984. I have prayed for family members and others during that time. My Dad was very stubborn and agnostic (I think, he didn't like to talk about Jesus, but I tried anyway). He passed away 8+ years ago and my Christian brothers and sister assumed Dad went to Hell. Imagine surprise when the Lord came and got me about the end of October last year and took me to see Dad. He wasn't in Heaven, nor was he in Hell. I call it the place of "second chances". The Catholics have a concept of Purgatory as a place of punishment, which I saw no indication that was going on there. It looked like a ghost town in the desert of Arizona, only there was no cactus, just sand and rocks with a small town made of old wooden boards (like a ghost town). Dad was there with others. He was happy, but still clueless (naive?). The Lord told me to tell him, "This is your last chance." Then he had me raise my arms and praise him. As I did this I noticed a change in Dad as he began to cry and briefly hugged me. Then he too raised his hands and praised God. Dad got saved 8 years after he died. When I asked the Lord how he got there, he said, "Didn't you forgive?" John 20: 23 "Whosoever sins you remit, they are remitted unto them." Did you ever speak forgiveness to your daughter (for anything)? It may not be too late.

If your daughter was an atheist, then she was well aware of Christ, and rejected Him. Therefore, she will not take part in the Judgment of Christ at the BEMA seat (judgment of believers). She shall be judged at the Great White Throne judgment (the judgment of the wicked) and shall face the same fate as everyone else there.

Perhaps you should have taught her better.

Romans 9:15-17

(15) For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

(16) So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

(17) For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.

The Bible condemns all of unbelief, however there is a reason I point to this scripture above, it is not for us to know the heart of man, nor is it our place to judge, but outwardly we judge by what we know of a person. If that person spoke and acted as atheist and her conviction then she found hell to be a real place. The point is not about where she is but where are you going? Heaven or hell, you can not change her decision no more then you could change her smoking habit. Forgive yourself for not being able to stop her from smoking. After all it might not of been the smoking it could of been something else. Cancer is caused by many things. Just went through cancer myself, and I am not harlot but my cancer was female cancer. Bible speaks about that kind of thing as well. The point is If I said my cancer condemned me I be as I much trouble as if I tried to condemn your daughter. The point is this scripture does speak condemnation to the sinner, but life to the believer and those who follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Yet who am I to say what God will do concerning your daughter.

No. She is resting in her grave and unless she took a stand against God, she will be resurrected after Armageddon. You need to focus on learning God's standards and living by them so when she wakes up, you will be there to greet her.

Armageddon is not very far off.

I'm sorry for your loss.

We choose our destiny.

God loves us too much to force his love on us which is why he doesn't force people who reject him to spend an eternity in heaven with him.

Hell isn't a literal place of burning, its a separation from God which she would want as an eternity in heaven with God who she rejects would be hell for her.

The original meaning in English for hell means "grave or pit" same as the Hebrew word Sheol and the Greek word Hades. Only Jehovah God knows who He will resurrect from the dead. As Eccl 9:5,10 shows that at death nothing is known nor done so your daughter is in inactivity and knows nothing at all.

"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." John 3:36. This verse says that is you believe in God you will have everlasting life however if you do not believe in him you will basically go to hell. Also, the only way to get into heaven is to believe with your heart and confess with your mouth.

i honestly doubt she is burning in hell right now! i believe in Jesus the Lord God from a christain viewpoint but i also have my own beliefs about God that i believe are true! first of all i believe in my heart that people in the united states turn against God because something bad happened to them and they just say they don't believe in him yet they will also act like it as well. but deep down inside i think they know he is real. so i believe that God knows this. i believe that God forgives them as well when they get to heaven. when something bad happens to you like in terminally ill people one of the first things they experience is anger. and im sure there are a lot of people like that that hate God for it. i believe that God understands. i mean its a normal human emotion. Next is my theory which i believe that i am a psychic and i believe that there is no hell! so i do not believe that she went to hell . pyschics say that we come on earth to learn and get closer to God that we reincarnate back to earth each life we live. so that lets me know that we don't have time to burn in hell. so don't worry about your daughter she is okay and not in hell! and im sorry that happened to you as well because my husband had his son die at 13 from a motorcycle wreck. so i kinda understand your pain...

If your daughter has accepted that Jesus Christ is Lord and Saviour and that he died for her sins and was the son of God, then no, she is not burning in hell. If your daughter accepted Jesus at an early age and later became an atheist, she is saved. If she never accepted Jesus as her Lord and Saviour, then, in my opinion, she is not saved.

first before hurrying up any judgment about your daughter being in hell or not ,you must know that the religion is not at any way ruthless or without mercy whatever the human being does, because when we sin it is considered by god as a way to repent and the sin itself is a reason for repentance and after a cause to enter to the paradise. many apostles and followers of the prophets and the scholars accentuate the judgment final of god about being at hell or at the paradise on the routinate prayers that god has ordred us to accomplish, such to be at the church believing in god every weekend or every day, such you the people who once worchipped the sun, the fire, the cow,and the satan, or idols and statues...so they bow themselves to these goddess and they prostrate and they raise their hands in order to be awarded protection and forgiveness by those gods, so that the way they machinally repeat some gestures and movement that are called prayers, so as that the christians, muslims, jews,boudhistes...act as well, putting god as a target to give him their good spirit and to lay their soul on it sign of obedience and recognition to worchip a master. as i said before the religeous people admit that god will judge in first the prayers that are ordered by the prophets to the human beings, therefore if prayer is sound ,the worchipper will be at the paradise, and if the prayers fail the worchipper will enter to the hell. however,in some cases, many religeous recognize that the judgment final of god is simply to put a side what people fabricate as daily machination supplications , and to judge them according to what they behave among the others human beings , the child with his parents, the employee with his manager, the wife with his husband, the president of a nation with his citizens, friends among friends,...relatives among eachothers , ...it means that if you misbehave with the human beings , your machination of prayers and supplications are not sufficient to escape the punishment of god ( and the degree of the torment is divided between being at hell for eternity,or for some times... and the fire hell is not for every one...according to many doctorines and myths ..the hell can be sometimes a punishment as washing saucers, picking up some barrels and filling them with big quantities of a kind.... there is no matters to explain more...because , you have said that your daughter was an atheist , so , if you are looking for the true response you can find it at the memory of your dead daughter, his behavior with you ,with her friends, at school, at he neighborhood.... (some crimes are punished severely by god, to kill some one intentionnally, to do evil things intentionnally...) .

Not according to the Bible. (Romans 6:23) For the wages sin pays is death, but the gift God gives is everlasting life by Christ Jesus our Lord

We die cause we sin, sorry she died but you may be able to find comfort in the point that she has paid her debt of sinning because she died. Now read what Jesus Christ said about those that have died, (John 5:22-29) For the Father judges no one at all, but he has entrusted all the judging to the Son, 23 so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. 24 Most truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes the One who sent me has everlasting life, and he does not come into judgment but has passed over from death to life. 25 “Most truly I say to you, the hour is coming, and it is now, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who have paid attention will live. 26 For just as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted also to the Son to have life in himself. 27 And he has given him authority to do judging, because he is the Son of man. 28 Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.

Please notice that in verse 29 it says those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment. Your daughter has died, she will have the resurrection to life, she has paid her debt. She is NOT in hell. jw.org

THE FUG. YOUR DAUGHTER ISNT IN HELL A CHANCE REMAINS SHE MAY HAVE LET GO OF HER BURDEN BEFORE DEATH. DEATH DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE IT TAKES WHOEVER IT WANTS. THE SECOND YOU ARE BORN YOU BEGIN TO DIE, & IF YOU & YOUR DAUGHTER HAD A BOND A CHANCE YOUR DAUGHTER UNBURDENED HERSELF TO TRUTH IS GREATER. BECAUSE NOBODY GOES TO HELL WHO TRULY DOESNT WANT TO GO BUT, YOU KNOW YOUR DAUGHTER KNOW IF SHE HAD LOVE IN HER OR NOT. LOVE FOR LIFE, FAMILY COULD BE ENOUGH FOR HER TO REVEAL FEARS OF NEVER SEEING THEM AGAIN, OF ASKING FORGIVENESS IN THE END. DONT TRIP A TON OF ATHEISTS "TURN THEIR BACKS ON THE REAL TRUTH" OF ATHEISM & FIND DEATH SCARIER THAN A IMAGINARY HELL. IN THEIR LAST MOMENTS THEY WONDER WHAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE IF THEY HAD NEVER BEEN AFRAID OF GODS OLD TESTAMENT, IF ONLY THEIR PRAYERS WERE ANSWERED AS THOUGH THEY WERENT ACTUALLY BEING WISHED FOR TO BE FULFILLED BY A SKY GENIE. ITS NO SECRET WE ALL SIN BUT WHAT IS KEPT HIDDEN IS PEOPLES' WILLINGNESS TO ADMIT TO THEMSELVES & OTHERS.

I'm terribly sorry to hear about your daughter.

Even though your daughter was an atheist, you can at least hope that maybe at some point in her life she came to trust in Jesus Christ for eternal life. The Bible is very clear that faith alone in Christ alone is the only way to be saved. All those who reject Christ throughout their lives and die in that state of unbelief end up in hell (Rev. 20:15). Again, you can at least hope that perhaps your daughter came to faith at some point and may be in heaven with the Lord.

Ultimately, you need to be concerned about your own eternal destiny right now since there is no way to bring your daughter back from the afterlife. Do you know for absolute certain that you have eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ?

Knowing for sure that you have eternal life is the single most important issue in life. All people are separated from God by a sin barrier that no human effort can overcome (Isa. 64:6; Rom. 3:10, 12, 23). All human beings are born without spiritual life (Eph. 2:1). That is why Jesus Christ, who is eternal God Himself, came in human flesh so that He could suffer and die in our place - as our substitute - on the cross of Calvary. He died on the cross to pay our sin debt in FULL and rose again (1 Cor. 15:3-4). When we believe in Jesus Christ for our eternal life He has promised to give it to us:

"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life" (John 6:47).

"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life" (John 5:24).

To "believe" is simply to be convinced that it is true (Rom. 4:21) that you cannot in any way contribute to your own salvation and instead you trust Jesus alone to give you that life freely - a gift of unconditional eternal life. It means to believe His promise to give eternal life to all who believe in Him for that life. It really is that simple!

The Gospel of John is the only book written for the sole purpose of showing people how they can have eternal life (see John 20:30-31) and it mentions the word "believe" as the sole condition 98 times!

So sorry to here this. Please take comfort in the truth. Some here have mentioned Acts 24:15 and Revelation 21:4. Please read them.

Our Loving creator would never burn someone forever for some mistakes they made briefly. It isn't biblical. Jesus reflected His father Jehovah's Love by His gentle personality and Loving ways.

Our creator has promised these things and His promises always come true. Please pray about it and learn more about these promises.

Sad about your daughter- I would say she suffered enough on this earth!!

God is not an ogre, he gave his life for us whilst still in our sins and has her with him in heaven, we must not judge.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. I my heart knows your grief. But I do not know the answer to your question. I believe that we are always with God. When we depart from this body our soul lives on with God for God created us. In your heart you know she is with God and that is all you need to know. I hope this helps.

No. No one will be judged until all are raised after Jesus returns. Your daughter is "asleep" at the moment.

Firstly, my sympathy at the loss of your daughter.

As for her eternal destiny, who are we to judge?

God is the only one who can pass such judgement.

Our God, however, is a God of love
