Question:
who told people that we evolved from monkeys?
2009-07-02 22:51:33 UTC
any respectable scientist has never said that we evolved from monkeys they said we evolved from a common ancestor which is completely different ok creationist so who told you we evolved from monkeys it obviously wasn't a scientist

So deluded!!! What do you find so hard about our roots coming through monkeys?!! Are you ashamed? Or did you not get the human mind to see the truth and accept it?!!

The common ancestor is a lemur like animal that was at the root of the monkey formation!!!

Primates are mammals that include lemurs, monkeys, apes and humans.

The Strepsirrhini, or “wet-nosed” primates, which include lemurs and lorises, branched off around 63 million years ago.

Old World monkeys and apes divided from New World monkeys about 40 million years ago.

Aegyptopithecus zeuxis, which probably resembles the common ancestor of New World monkeys and apes, lived about 29 million years ago.

The apes split from Old World monkeys about 25 million years ago.

Humans and chimpanzees diverged 5-7 million years ago.

So yes on each split the original got left behind to stay as it was! But why do you think they were unlucky? I am sure that many of the "left behind" species are perfectly happy as they are and that there are a good many humans that would not mind trading places with them!!!

Of the macaque's nearly 3 billion DNA base pairs, 93.5 per cent are identical to those in the human genome. This is not unexpected for a species whose lineage diverged from our own about 25 million years ago. The human and chimp genomes, which diverged just 6 million years ago, are about 98 per cent identical.

One puzzling discovery is that several mutations that cause genetic diseases in humans - such as phenylketonuria and Sanfilippo syndrome, which lead to mental retardation - are the normal form in macaques and, presumably, our own ancestors.

But of course your claims are because you are a bad christian rather than being ignorant of science!!

The Pope, Catholic Church, Church of England and mainstream churches all accept evolution and the big bang!!

Lord Carey the former Archbishop of Canterbury put it rather well – “Creationism is the fruit of a fundamentalist approach to scripture, ignoring scholarship and critical learning, and confusing different understandings of truth”!!

Nice that christians and atheists can agree and laugh together even if it is at your expense!!

First of all, please don't characterize all Christians as being at odds with the theory of evolution. I know more Christians who subscribe to evolution than creationism and are very happy Christians indeed. Second, I have actually heard more often from those who purport to "follow" evolutionary theory the misrepresentation you're asking about. "Man wasn't created, he evolved from a monkey/ape," I hear it all the time from people who say that they know and understand the theory of evolution. They have not read The Origin of Species and are basically just going on what they remember from 6th grade science and what they hear on the news. Congrats on being someone who actually cares about and studies what they say they believe. Third, I am a creationist, and I can't see that changing very soon. Evidence to the contrary be what it may, I'm not yet convinced of the theory of evolution. However, I don't try to force other people to see things my way, unlike a lot of the evolutionists I meet. It also may not be in my best interest, but when I hear the "monkey/ape" thing from anyone, creationist or evolutionist, I always correct them with "common ancestor", so hopefully we're doing what we can to put down that stupid argument. I feel a little embarassed when I know more about what someone believes than they do. I AM convinced of the science of natural selection - I can see that in my own backyard. Last, some people who call themselves Christian are certainly (and obviously) guilty of telling lies and being duplicitous to get money, power, etc. This is true in ALL institutions in the world. THEY are the ones who perpetuate ignorance, because ignorant people are easier to control. Don't get mad at the ignorant; pity them. Sometimes they can help it, but sometimes ignorance isn't willful, it's a byproduct of a life that someone has been forced into since their birth.

Many misinformed say it here every day. I was being a poo flinging monkey. I know that scientists believe that primates evolved from a common ancestor. I know that the species known as Neandertal were sentient but not our ancestors. I know all sorts of things, actually.

o For Follow Jesus, man and bonobos have over 99% of the same DNA.

FACT 98% percent of RESPECTABLE SCIENTISTS agree on the main theme

and if you actually knew what you were talking about you would know that we didnt evolve FROM MONKEYS you should know that they are our "cousins" WE BOTH EVOLVED FROM THE SAME ANCESTOR

try actually doing some research before you go debate somebody who actually has A CLUE as to what they are talking about

if im not mistaken Darwin started the theory that we evolved from monkeys after his visit to the Galapagos islands ....what i would like to know is if we evolved from monkeys wouldn't there be have man half monkey people everywhere like freaky planet of the ape stuff

and if this were true then female woman could get pregnant from monkeys and male men could impregnate female monkeys ....so whats the theory on that ??

i personally think that the scientist who think this went bananas

no its not different

a common ancestor means they all have similar DNA

you can not be related to some one of you do not have similar DNA

so yes a common ancestor of chimps and apes are the same.

http://anthropology.si.edu/HumanOrigins/ha/primate.html

quote from the web site

To understand human evolution one must understand where humans fit in relation to other forms of life. Modern humans belong to the group of mammals known as Primates. This is the scientific category describing such diverse creatures as lemurs, lorises, tarsiers, the monkeys of the New World and Old World, and also the apes. As primates we all share many characteristics, such as overlapping fields of vision caused by forward looking eyes (this allows for greater 3D vision), fine ability to grasp and handle objects in our hands, and enlarged brains relative to body size.

so yes it is saying we evolved from the primate category.

its saying chimps and apes and humans came from this ancestor.

they even show we were hairy once and had a tail and looked like them.

The argument probably popularized after the Bishop Samuel Wilberforce asked Darwin's main defender Huxley "Which side of (his) family (he) claimed his monkey ancestor from". It's a pretty famous debate, although accounts vary about what actually happened.

Funny how some people, who wouldn't try to tell a nuclear engineer how much cadmium should go into a fuel rod, feel perfectly justified in trying to argue biology with biologists.

Never underestimate the ability of a moron to argue a subject he knows nothing about.

It's one of many straw man arguments. It's how people who don't know what they're talking about try to win debates.

We all do it to some degree, but they are the masters.
