Marriage has been around since ancient civilizations that predate all abrahamic religions, yet to listen to christian arguments against gay marriage you get the distinct impression that they believe they own it and decide who gets marry.

God is the originator of marriage. So, he has the authority over the matter. As a Christian, I don't judge anything, I don't own anything. I make no decisions concerning marriage except, I will not let the attitudes of others or the way they think, effect my thinking, and cause me to undermine God's authority. He sat the laws and principles concerning marriage. As a Christian I follow them.

Why do Christians Think they own marriage ?

It is religions mean a ritual ceremony to assure continued followers through reproduction .

but marriage is more than reproduction.also ,

religious ceremony is not legally binding .

marriage comes from the word merge to combine .

In modern society , marriage is a legal contract

. and to end a marriage . one must appeal to the legal system courts to break the contract

as in the term Divorce. one certainly does not go to a priest to legally divide assets .

Christians wish to maintain marriage as reproduction , purposes ,

.to start indoctrination of believes from birth >

when i was married as a Catholic . they said to be "married " I had to sign a form obligating me to raise my children Catholic.. ( I have been an Atheist now for 33 years )

. So by the reproduction premise

. All marriages should be dissolved after Menopause .

no new marriages allowed after menopause

childless marriages should be dissolved

any infertile humans should not be allowed to marry .

. thats their mentality and sole view of what marriage is , and for.

That is not REALITY. and its discriminatory . and serves only a single agenda more followers and maintaining the religion

Marriage is the consensual and contractual union of two adults. In my country that union is gender neutral and same sex couples have the same rights and responsibilities as heterosexual couples. Even Christian churches now marry same sex couples. Marriage is a legally binding contract, controlled by the government not the church. The government make laws, a holy book doesn't.

If God owns marriage, why doesn't he sue for patent infringement rights?

Christians don't own marriage. Nobody does. Marriage is a ceremony where two people that love eachother celebrate and prove their love for eachother.

Many religions seem to feel they "own marriage." They adjust the morays with their own intentions, differentiations and ideals, as well as some prejudices and intolerances. I suppose these religions behave this way because they are self-centered and possibly ignorant to what the true meaning of marriage should be.

Christians don't own marriage. God does.

Mt 19:4 He answered, “Haven’t you read that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female,* 19:5 and said, ‘For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall join to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh?’* 19:6 So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, don’t let man tear apart.”

A homosexual is defined as a person who has sex with persons of the same sex. Would homosexuals have a problem if the definition was changed to one who had sex with babies and donkeys? Of course they would. But they are flabbergasted when they hear of others complaining about them wanting to change the definition of "marriage", a word that has been what it has been for at least 6000 years,

They might want to think that they own marriage and so what? They cannot own love. Worry not the weed.

No matter the civilization or when all were with one man and one (or more) women. Never marriage between man and man or woman and woman. Homosexuality was common, yes, but they lived together WITHOUT marriage.

No society had gay marriage. Not even the Romans, who would have lovers of both genders but no marriage between the same gender. The same is true for the Greeks.

The Lord says no and frowns on it the sacraments of marriage must be respected as he intended them.

You can't present an abomination before him and expect him to accept it or give his blessing. The laws is the law.

God doesn't like homosexuals, they shouldn't be doing this sinful act and marriage is something God created between males and females, that's why. Gays and Lesbians can get married, but it wont be accepted by God and they will just be thrown in hell.

It is thanks to atheism multiple wives got abolished. That is something they can never take away. It just proves who deep down has the most morals and respect towards their loved ones. Not forcing a wife to experience extreme jealousy as your having sex with another wife in only the next room.

They would claim anything they could, if they thought it makes them look credible.

Christianity lacks credibility badly, so they will try to claim all sorts of things that are not true, or are just "sort of" true.

Honesty is not their policy at all.

Gays back in the day use to marry woman and have children with them, they don't do this anymore, otherwise we could say that the gya Roamn empire expired because all the gay men were nto producing children.

Jesus referred back to Genesis when asked about marriage .. God created them male and female and set forth the model of the family unit .. man has corrupted everything else, so might as well do marriage to .. but that wasnt the design ..

It is yet another illustration of Christians just wanting to tell everyone what they can and cannot do.

The practice of homosexuality is destructive to the human soul. God makes it clear that homosexuality is a sin (Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Romans 1:26–27; 1 Corinthians 6:9; Jude 1:7; 1 Timothy 1:10; Revelation 21:8). Supporting gay marriage is a sin because it means to support homosexuality and the perversion of Holy Matrimony. If a nation legalizes gay marriage, that nation will be cursed.

Homosexuality is caused by iniquity. Iniquities (tendencies that cause one to sin) pass down the generation line (Numbers 14:18). When one accepts Lord Jesus as their Saviour, God forgives their sins and removes their iniquities (evil tendencies) in the subsequent transformation process which makes one more and more like Christ.

2 Corinthians 3:18

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Hebrews 9:12-14

Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Titus 3:5

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

After genuinely accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour, ALL sinners (those who practice homosexuality, alcoholics, liars, drug addicts, fornicators etc.) will be saved and transformed. Each believer is cleansed by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and receives the infilling of the Holy Spirit who renews them.

REDEMPTION BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH

Because mankind is incapable of meeting God’s standard of perfection necessary to abide in God’s presence (Romans 3:19-20,23), God sent His Son Jesus Christ to pay the total debt for the believer’s sins and mercifully credits to his account Christ’s righteousness (Romans 3:21-28,5:1-11; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21). Jesus’ gracious act of atonement was complete and covers all sin (Colossians 2:13-14; 1 John 1:9). Salvation is not based on good deeds but according to the mercy of God (Titus 3:4-5). Believers are justified by faith; it is a gift by God’s grace (Romans 4:3-8; Ephesians 2:8-9). A true, living faith will result in a desire to live a holy, loving life of good works (Ephesians 2:10; Galatians 5:6; James 2:14-26), but failure to be absolutely successful at righteous living does not negate the believer’s justified status.

If you sincerely say this prayer, your sins will be washed away, you will be redeemed to God, be saved from eternal torment and inherit the Kingdom of God:

"Dear Jesus,

I am a sinner.

I repent of my sins.

Please forgive me and save me by your shed blood;

come into my heart.

I want to receive you as my own personal Lord and Savior.

Amen"

We dont. We simply apply the bible to our lives and stand by it. Some still think they can control the decisions of others.
