how can i know that god is real?

ive been a christian all my life and now i cant figure out why god is real rather than allah or others. people also tell me to pray to god for reassurance and i feel like he is with me but how do i know thats not just because thats the way i was raised to think. and how do i know that its god that is making all the good things happen and protecting me rather than allah or others. i think that god is with me but then again thats just the way i was raised to feel and ive been feeling this way all my life so its like im accustomed to thinking hes with me. and i begin to think about how im afraid of demons so i must think gods real but people are afraid of fake things all the time. i want to believe in god but i cant get myself to believe that hes real and doing these things in my life instead of another god. people say god cured thier cancer, how can they know if it was god instead of buddah. How can i know . please DONT answer this question if your NOT a christian i dont want to know why you think god isnt real . I JUST WANT PEOPLE WHO THINK GOD IS REAL TO ANSWER.

(Ha ha! Well, Buddhists don't think buddha is God. Rather, he was just the person who founded the religion, hence his name literally translates to "the enlightened one.")



The answer is, there is no way to know IF you're basing God's existence on observations with the senses. Automatically one could assume he doesn't exist. Don't let that discourage you from believing what you are naturally compelled to believe- though that something may be hard to identify since you have been raised with bias, technically. Think about this: Could you describe that feeling you get when you've done something morally wrong? Why is that there? Why have humans seemed to have morals since ancient times? Once we get old enough to make our own decisions, no matter what religion we do or don't practice, I believe all humans get this feeling. But if the existence of life and matter was a mere accident, why would there be a need for such feelings? How would they even be programmed into our minds? I like to believe that my own state of being- consciousness- is not just the result of being a biological automaton. Truthfully, even so called Christians have shown to be greedy. Just think of medieval aristocrats who professed supposed Christianity, taking advantage of the lower classes, forcing them to remain ignorant and impeding technological advantages for centuries. This does not make true Christianity bad, even though humans twisted what I believe God intended. (I don't know what he intended, but you get the point!)

There is no physical or natural proof for either of the opposing sides: creationist and atheist. How did matter and energy come from nothingness? And if God is responsible for creating the world, how did he get there? Humans have yet to understand the vastness of space or even what a thought is made of. Nor do they even know what the most basic building block of all matter is- how far can you break down subatomic particles? Infinitely?

When you look at the limited knowledge humans have, for now you can say there is no more or less reason to believe either side. That is, unless you believe that you have a PURPOSE (because ultimately if there is no god, you have no purpose). The only difference is pessimism and optimism. If you die believing in a false god and there is no god to start with, at least your deluded life felt meaningful to you.

Answer: Someone who doesn't believe the way God made us would say something against the lines of the Big Bang. Okay, well, how come that isn't the way God made us happen.

FYI, God is god in all religions like Judaism, Catholicism, Christianity, and Islam. They just live their lives differently because they have different prophets that enlightened them. But Yahweh, Allah, God they're all the same thing, just different names for different kinds of people, because the world is a diverse place.



All I'm saying is that this **** didn't just get here, some supernatural event occurred.

I don't completely call myself a "Christian" at the moment but recent questions seem to be leading me in that direction from an Atheist/Agnostic point of view.



I sense that you are in a state of anxiety at the moment so I will be brief about why I am really beginning to understand that God is real.



1. Evolution and God are not at all incompatible. The idea that they are stems from conservative creationists arguing with atheist evolutionists. If you read Genesis 2 you will know what I am talking about.



2. The Historical existence of Jesus Christ. There is little debate whether Jesus ever actually existed or not. Even the jews acknowledge Jesus exists. The debate is over his divinity and messianic claims.

Something cool that blows my mind was when I read Genesis 5, and realized that the names in the geanology in original hebrew written 1400-1500 years before christ died, actually paraphrase the life of Jesus.



3. It is universal that people need meaning in their life. Even strict atheists like Christopher Hitchens say "you can create your own purpose in life", thereby implying that even he seeks meaning and purpose in life. It is not selfish to need meaning or purpose, or some "fear of the truth". It just shows that you have an urge that must be satisfied. When you are thirsty, there exists water to quench it, hunger, food to eat, etc. All of our urges require things that are real. Any urge that you want has something real that can satisfy it. Meaning and purpose are real urges, therefore meaning and purpose must exist. God seems to be the only real answer.





From my encounter with atheists I find that they are shallow and emotionally deluded. They can't stand the idea of a "cosmic dictator" telling them what to do. They view God as a limit on their freedom. I wouldn't trust atheists either. Even in my atheism most atheist baffled me at their ignorance.





Now just because you were raised to "think" a certain way doesn't mean what you were taught is wrong. If you were raised as an Atheist wouldn't you be thinking right now that God was real because you were only taught to be an atheist as a kid.

If I told you that I know God is real because I saw Him, and He has blue skin and eight arms, would you accept that as a reassurance?



If I gave you an answer that I absolutely DO NOT think He has blue skin and eight arms, but that I once felt His presence during a religious ceremony, but never saw Him, and that I once witnessed a sick woman's swollen ankles decrease in size, as her friends prayed and laid hands upon her, would you accept that as a reassurance?



And if it turns out that the lady had a circlatory problem, and that the excitement of the ceremony may have increased her heart rate, pumping the fluid away from her ankles, and that laying down during the laying on of hands took the pressure off her ankle veins so they could carry away more fluid, and that the laying on of hands included pressing directly on the swollen ankles, which may have pushed more of the fluid away from her ankles, would that ruin the beauty, the spirituality, of the moment?



God, being infinitely smart, may have designed an inifinite number of Religions. And if your preachers claim God is not smart enough to come up with more than ONE good idea for getting people into His eternal presence, then they are demanding that you worship a limited, not an infinite, God.

Do not let them convince you that God is too stupid to design several religions.

And the test of prophecy is being fulfilled right now by the world leaders discussing and making plans how on they, the leaders of the world, are able to unite the world through a global government and economy. This is written in the Bible in verse of Revelation 13:7 “And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.” and in Revelation 13:16-17 “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”.

Sorry, I dont believe in God so I know this isnt what you want, but I have thoughts I want to bring up. Most people question their religion, and it is totally natural - i'm a freshman in high school who wasnt raised with a religion and have been struggling with it all my life. The important thing, I think, is to step back, and I know it's hard, but don't incorporate what you've been taught. Look at the situation and ask yourself, "what do I think?" the answer won't come immediately but it will in time. Don't stress. You have your entire life to figure it out,

Blessings to all. Just once wouldn't you love for someone to simply show you the evidence for God's existence? No arm-twisting. No statements of, "You just have to believe." Well, here is an attempt to candidly offer some of the reasons which suggest that God exists.



But first consider this. If a person opposes even the possibility of there being a God, then any evidence can be rationalized or explained away. It is like if someone refuses to believe that people have walked on the moon, then no amount of information is going to change their thinking. Photographs of astronauts walking on the moon, interviews with the astronauts, moon rocks...all the evidence would be worthless, because the person has already concluded that people cannot go to the moon.



When it comes to the possibility of God's existence, the Bible says that there are people who have seen sufficient evidence, but they have suppressed the truth about God.1 On the other hand, for those who want to know God if he is there, he says, "You will seek me and find me; when you seek me with all your heart, I will be found by you. Does God exist? Unlike any other revelation of God, Jesus Christ is the clearest, most specific picture of God revealing himself to us.

Why Jesus? Look throughout the major world religions and you'll find that Buddha, Muhammad, Confucius and Moses all identified themselves as teachers or prophets. None of them ever claimed to be equal to God. Surprisingly, Jesus did. That is what sets Jesus apart from all the others. He said God exists and you're looking at him. Though he talked about his Father in heaven, it was not from the position of separation, but of very close union, unique to all humankind. Jesus said that anyone who had seen Him had seen the Father, anyone who believed in him, believed in the Father.



He said, "I am the light of the world, he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."14 He claimed attributes belonging only to God: to be able to forgive people of their sin, free them from habits of sin, give people a more abundant life and give them eternal life in heaven. Unlike other teachers who focused people on their words, Jesus pointed people to himself. He did not say, "follow my words and you will find truth." He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father but through me."15



What proof did Jesus give for claiming to be divine? He did what people can't do. Jesus performed miracles. He healed people...blind, crippled, deaf, even raised a couple of people from the dead. He had power over objects...created food out of thin air, enough to feed crowds of several thousand people. He performed miracles over nature...walked on top of a lake, commanding a raging storm to stop for some friends. People everywhere followed Jesus, because he constantly met their needs, doing the miraculous. He said if you do not want to believe what I'm telling you, you should at least believe in me based on the miracles you're seeing.16



Jesus Christ showed God to be gentle, loving, aware of our self-centeredness and shortcomings, yet deeply wanting a relationship with us. Jesus revealed that although God views us as sinners, worthy of his punishment, his love for us ruled and God came up with a different plan. God himself took on the form of man and accepted the punishment for our sin on our behalf. Sounds ludicrous? Perhaps, but many loving fathers would gladly trade places with their child in a cancer ward if they could. The Bible says that the reason we would love God is because he first loved us.



Jesus died in our place so we could be forgiven. Of all the religions known to humanity, only through Jesus will you see God reaching toward humanity, providing a way for us to have a relationship with him. Jesus proves a divine heart of love, meeting our needs, drawing us to himself. Because of Jesus' death and resurrection, he offers us a new life today. We can be forgiven, fully accepted by God and genuinely loved by God. He says, "I have loved you with an everlasting love, therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you."17 This is God, in action.



Does God exist? If you want to know, investigate Jesus Christ. We're told that "God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."18



God does not force us to believe in him, though he could. Instead, he has provided sufficient proof of his existence for us to willingly respond to him. The earth's perfect distance from the sun, the unique chemical properties of water, the human brain, DNA, the number of people who attest to knowing God, the gnawing in our hearts and minds to determine if God is there, the willingness for God to be known through Jesus Christ.
