Lots of questions, so this will take a bit.

The term scientology can refer to EITHER of two DIFFERENT things:

A. A spiritual practice which assists in developing insight & awareness of self & others originally developed by L.Ron Hubbard & numerous collaborators in the 1950s-1960s.

B. A cultish religion & church (Co$) established by L.Ron Hubbard renown for the abuses perpertrated on members, staff, & critics by church management.

----------

Why does it target celebreties?:

The subject of scientology can be of great assistance to individuals in increasing personal insight & awareness. As a result lots of performers & artists have found it useful in their creative work.

The church of scientology (Co$) has long used that interest by artists as a means of promoting the church to artists & their enthusiasts.

----------

What are Thetans?:

"Thetan" is simply another term for "spirit".

L.Ron Hubbard commonly invented or adapted words giving them specific new meanings in his lectures on the subject of scientology auditing.

As a result scientologists have their own slang for many concepts which occur in other spiritual traditions. "Thetan" is one such term, as are "ARC", "overt", & "serfac".

----------

Do they really believe in aliens?:

Neither yes, nor no.

Scientology is not a system of belief and does not have any teachings which are to be taken on faith as revealed truths. This would include a "belief" in aliens.

If you accept that man is truly an immortal spiritual being, as many scientologists come to do, then you might wonder what were these immortal spiritual beings doing before life on earth evolved to its present state.

One perspective is that these immortal spiritual beings had lifetimes (aka reincarnation) on other worlds & universes.

This is a belief, which is not fundamental or even universal within scientology. Many scientologists, however, DO consider it to be a distinct possibility.

It is a belief which is also commonly held in such other traditions as Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, and Gnosticism, among many other religious or philosophical schools.

Some aspects of scientology counselling seek to address an individual's private considerations on such matters when and if they arise.

----------

What's up with the personality tests and stuff?:

Scientology has observed that a person's mood often reflects their state of mind & spirit. Scientology practices can cause a person to experience improvements in spiritual state which are reflected in their mood patterns.

The personality tests were originally developed as a measuring tool to go along with the practice of auditing.

At some point, some "genius" in the church got the "bright idea" to use the tests as a means of marketing scientology to the general public. Since that time a great deal of waste paper has been generated all in the effort to hand out "free personality tests".

What is Scientology?:

General Principles of Scientology:

The religion of scientology is perhaps better called a "spiritual practice" than a religion.

Belief is not really a factor in scientology, individuals are encouraged to explore their own truths and understandings of things. But I'll list the basic principles which underly the practice of scientology for your benefit.

Among the basic principles of scientology are the following:

A. Man is in essence an immortal spirit.

B. Human life represents a composite of a mortal body with the immortal spirit.

C. An individual is responsible for his own thoughts & actions.

D. An individual's thoughts & decisions may have unintended consequences including those of which he may not be aware.

E. Communication resolves problems and allows an individual to alter their thoughts & decisions.

F. Scientology focuses on techniques of communication and improvement of an individual's self-awareness.

Reincarnation is accepted as a possibility by scientology but it is NOT a belief which is taught in scientology. Individuals are free to accept or reject the prospect of reincarnation. Although most scientologists ultimately come to a personal acceptance of some aspect of reincarnation as a result of a better understanding of their own personal history of decision-making.

In short the principles of scientology are very similar in many ways to those of Buddhism.

I am a freezone scientologist. I am not affiliated with the Church of Scientology.

Freezone Scientology practices scientology independent of the church of scientology.

Scientology is a religious applied philosophy.

THIS IS SCIENTOLOGY

“It is possible to know about the mind, the spirit and life”

Scientology states that man is a Spiritual being that controls a body through a mind. To represent this life force, the Greek symbol for though “Theta” was selected to avoid confusion with any prior practice.

The mind (we are not talking about the brain that is just the center of the nervous system) is a bank of mental image pictures. This bank is what the spirit uses to make decisions; it is composed of the analytical mind and the reactive mind. The analytical is clear; it doesn’t have any hidden influences and is fully accessible by the Thetan. The reactive mind is a collection of bad mental image picture that include pain, unconsciousness and command value. The reactive mind is the hidden influence that aberrates reason. The reactive mind is the cause for all human aberration, insanity or evil purpose.

Scientology’s approach to solve human aberration: Auditing.

- “Communication is the Universal Solvent.”

- “All problems of the mind are created by the mind.”

- “The mind can solve all the problems of the mind”

When dealing with the reactive mind we are dealing with the problem that individual is trying to confront that which he thinks he can’t confront so he is stuck. To solve this problem Hubbard developed Auditing. A verbal therapy that uses questions to help the individual address what is bothering him. So the person by his own volition can solve his own problems. The big difference between Auditing and Psychoanalysis is that the Psychoanalyst evaluates for the person and tells him what to think. In Auditing you just ask and listen and let the person make his own mind about things. If you give a person a fish you can feed him one time but if you teach him to fish you can feed him for a life time. That’s Scientology’s approach.

There are no suggestions involved in Auditing, all conclusion are done by you by your own intelligence. Auditors are bound the Auditor’s Code to never evaluate for the preclear (preclear is a person receiving Scientology processing). Never get in a relationship with the preclear. All information released during auditing is protected by law and not even the police can gain access to that information. Enforcing this code of conduct is the Scientology Ethics Officer and Scientology law. Any violation to the Auditors code is considered a high crime in Scientology and will result removal of any Auditing Certificates and/or expulsion from the church. I have seen this happen and am a very serious matter.

Any friend or family member can audit you for free. Or you can take the courses and get your Auditing with other students. But if you want to hire a professional auditing team of course it will cost you. An auditing team is composed of the Auditor, Ethics Officer, Quality Assurance (the person that tells the Auditor what to do), Corrections (the people that constantly train the Auditor on how to do the process) and the rest of the administration of a Church of Scientology. These are not one on one services, these are a whole team working to better you. That’s why it gets expensive but it is worth it.

How Scientology evolved?

Scientology evolved from Dianetics when it was discovered that man is a spiritual being. Scientology differs from Dianetics in that Dianetics deals with the mind and the rehabilitation of mental image pictures and Scientology deals with the rehabilitation of the human spirit.

began through L. Ron Hubbard as 'self support technique' known as Dianetics (he began out writing SiFi books after which wrote self support books) ...it right into a grew to become "faith".....many humans (Christians, atheist, agnostics, former contributors, ect) say it's the ultimate 'textual content-publication' instance of a non-violent Cult (suggestion a few contributors have suggested bodily and emotional abuse) the elemental concept is: for the period of your and beyond lives you've got had terrible stories that you just are not able to recollect, those repressed stories 'maintain you again'.... by way of certain counseling known as "Dianetics" (furnished through the CoS. for a nominal rate) you'll 'system/manage' those dangerous stories....as soon as there all looked after, you'll go beyond to a "prime simple of life" ....THE END....
