Question:
Atheists; Why do you think Atheism makes sense?

An Atheist and I were in a discussion about religion (as I am a Muslim), and she kept claiming that Theism makes no sense. But what's ironic is, there's more proof for Theism than Atheism, which I then said to her.

Basically, all the Atheists I talk to technically come down to this claim: "Once upon a time there was nothing and then nothing happened to nothing, and after that nothing magically exploded for no reason whatsoever, creating everything from a bunch of nothing which (everything) then magically rearranged it self to self-replicating bits in a ordinary fashion with the power of nothing, which, then, turned into dinosaurs (life)."

This is technically what they are trying to prove to us Theist folks.

- Incorrect. Look up the Law of Conservation of Mass, and the Law of Conservation of Energy. Those two things cannot be created or destroyed, which means they've always existed and is conserved.

Well, Atheist makes sense to some people because they believe that there isnt enough proof for theism to make sense. For example, there isnt a shred of proof that Moses exists, unlike the other prophets, but some theists believe that theism makes more sense than atheism becuase muhammad and jesus did in fact exist, and there IS proof of that.

In terms of really understanding religion, well, all religious scriptures are written in spiritual language, which means that its basically written as a poem, which in turn, leads it to be believed in multiple ways. This and the fact that language developes and changes throughout history is widely believed to create controversy and not allow people to understand the meaning of religion, and it also creates contradictions in the writing which wouldntve been there before.

no, technically speaking would require several short books to describe processes that are 1). stellar evolution 2). planetary formation 3). abiogensis 4). evolution. Your red herring arguement means nothing at all. Having said that technically speaking everything in the above 4) categories has proofs associted with them--literally volumes of proof from several different disciplines. this is the big difference between your god poofed it and these positions. Your god poofed it position sadly has no proof whatsoever--and in fact if you take your book of myths seriously the actions of your god are directly contradicted by factual reproducable evidence. These are the distinctions--the position of science (not necessarily atheism) is backed by thousands of pounds of proofs and evidence--your bronze aged myth has 0 evidence that it is true. Thats why atheists generally take the position that is proved as opposed to the sky monkey finger snapping story.

your surmation of atheist claims shows 2 things.

1. you have not been listening to atheists at all

2. you do not know what an atheist is.

we lack beleif in any god for the same reason you lack belief in all gods but the one you believe in.

your copy and paste surmation is a very often used and very often debunked and idiotic attempt at making us look stupid. the REAL issues with using that is its basically what the theists believe, but you sub in god for nothing. it also is not at all what science (not atheist because atheist simply lack belief in god) say about how the universe came to be. Most scietnists will say that matter and energy have always existed in one form or another.

I find it very telling that theists first consider it necessary to garble Big Bang theory into some sort of kindergarten babble of misunderstanding, and then "refute" it.

Here's the actual bumper sticker version: Once upon a time the universe and all the matter and energy in it were very, very much smaller. Period. End of story.

There is evidence (not proof) that both atheists (people who do not believe in god) and theists (people who believe in god/s) exist. That doesn't mean that gods exist.

If you embrace logic and rationality, you will agree with me that we should avoid inserting agents where there is no evidence of such into the gaps of our knowledge. We should have learned the mistake of our ancestors. When they did not understand how lightning was caused, they attributed it to some god. Today, we know what causes lightning, and we can create it at will. We no longer attribute it to some god. We should do likewise to the questions of the origin of the universe. We should not attribute it to some god if we do not know the answer yet.

We know how simple unicellular organisms evolve to more complex forms of life. That is encompassed in the scientific theory of evolution.

There is NO empirical proof for theism in any form. Period.

If you have some, please present it. Please. I've been asking for years and no one has ever been able to do so. You'll convert me right now if you can present even one piece of empirical evidence FOR the existence of a god being.

Without empirical evidence for the claim, it is only logical to reject it.

Also, as an atheist, I in no way try to claim what you said I do. All that statement of yours does is:

a) show how unoriginal you are because the idea is not yours.

b) show how well you can cut and paste, and

c) show how grossly you misunderstand (or willingly misrepresent intentionally) the stance of atheism and those who fall under its umbrella.

I don't really feel it makes that much sense, but I feel god makes less. Nice strawman, by the way. You proved you don't know the first thing about big bang theory.

That "nothing happened to nothing and then made something" is your explanation for god, isn't it?

Atheism simply means being aware that there is no god. Just because you don't know something doesn't mean you have to make up stories of gods, devils, heaven and hell to justify your ignorance, that is why atheism makes sense and all religions are for brain donors, who are content to let other (often long dead and misinterpreted) people do their thinking for them.

Before you dismiss scientific explanations for life and the universe, you should at least put in the time to understand them. I suspect you won't, though, as it's a lot more comfortable to believe in magical sky fairies.

I don't believe in a god because I am not aware of any evidence for one. That makes sense to me. If you have this compelling evidence, please present it. A Nobel Prize would likely be the result.

As a side note, please provide attribution when copy/pasting other people's words, i.e. "Once upon a time there was nothing and then nothing happened to nothing..." etc.

Uhmmm, no. Atheists do not say that crap.

Get your facts straight Mr. theist.

Regardless, is a magic genie in the sky blinking everything into existence any more sensible?

Why do theists spread lies about atheism? That's not what atheism says at all, and it's not what we're trying to prove to anyone. We don't believe that.

Why are believers utterly unable to stop lying about us??

As an Atheist I think it is more reasonable to assume that nobody knows how Earth was created, and it is just as unreasonable to put your total trust into an old book as it is to say that a fairy tale fable is real.

I'm going to stop you right there. There is no "before" the big bang.

Nothing didn't happen to nothing, it's called a CHEMICAL REACTION. Did you not go to science class?

And really, you're preaching to us about nothing causing nothing.. have you read the Bible?

I am trying to prove no such thing. I hate science. My field is finance. I don't believe in your god and never will.

I make no statements about that. I simply use my experience studying the bible, to say that bible does not add up.
