Question:
Atheists: I'm scared, what if Christianity were true?

Some christians scared the hell out of me, talking about the Hell, they scared me talking about the things that sinners suffer in Hell, they said that if you go to Hell, your skin turns red, with pus, you lose your arms and legs, you become a "worm that never dies", you try to crawl, but you can't go to another place.

You can see your own evil and the evil of the others, but the worst thing is that you're with the demons!
They told me that sinners are in great pain and they wish to die, but they can't.

The most scary part was when they told me: "Eternity is a very long time to be wrong".

But I still have doubts, I can't believe in the Genesis account, I heard that the Catholic Church accepts the Theory of Evolution, so I could convert to Catholicism, but there's no christian who can tell me how the Original Sin of Adam & Eve can be compatible with the Theory of Evolution.

Some tell me, "well, it's a matter of authority, who are you going to believe, God or the men?"

I'm very confused.

P.S.
If you're a christian, reading this and you accept the Theory of Evolution, can you tell me how Adam & Eve fit in that theory? Are they the "Missing Link"? How mankind lost its inmortality?

If Atheism is a faith, baldness is a coiffure. so which you're sort of commencing off on the incorrect foot there. yet non-concept is regularly based on the lack of knowledge for something. If new data arises then any rational individual could re-evaluate their place. As faith is a thoroughly subjective technique it particularly is fairly effortless to think of you have 'got here upon' some new reality. Drug addicts and mentally ill human beings do it all of the time - listening to voices, seeing visions and so on and so on. Even some (extremely) regular human beings have faith they have considered UFOs. human beings are masters of self deception, so it may be magnificent if all atheists have been proof against this very human trait.

It is not easy to get the truth from a bunch of people that are being led by those demons, that's why the tell you it's not real. Don't come to God because you got scared but come to God seeking him and you will find him, get a Bible and read the Gospels then the letters to the churches, now you can do a cross reference to the subject at hand. Or look up testimonies of those that have gone to hell and come back to tell their stories there are many some were atheist but stopped being one when they were face to face with eternal hell. God Bless you.

FYI--Hell is a Christian construct--the modern version is based more on Dante's Inferno, or "Paradise Lost" than the Bible. The Jews that wrote the Old Testament did not believe in "Hell"--they believed in "Sheol"--a dark resting place. No fire and brimstone--that was added later on to scare people into complying.

BTW--Many theologians have admitted that Adam and Eve is "allegorical" however, if it is not literal, then their religion becomes redundant as there is no "original sin" to be "redeemed from"

For a different take on the story of Adam and Eve in which the hero is actually the serpent (without changing the story) see the following blog post:

Christians will make all sorts of things up. Even if you believe the Bible, no where does it say you will lose your arm and legs or most of that other stuff. Some Christian just made that up without researching it at all. Of course, the Bible itself was made up, but since it was done about 2000 years ago, some people think it has some sort of authority. It's just 2000 year old nonsense.

If someone scares you to believe in a deity then it is them that must worry about hell not you. To believe is a freedom not a curst. I believe because I want to believe. No I don’t subscribe to their Dogma anymore. I figured finding out the truth is better than just accepting something.

You need to learn more. Do a couple of religious studies courses at your local university. That's how I came to the realization that no gods or heaven or hell or demons exists. The better you understand the history of religions, the more convincing it is that religion is the world's biggest and oldest scam.

If your fear is of no benefit, then it is not the Truth.

The Truth is the missing link, not a common ancestor. How can that which does not exist be of any benefit to that which does exist?

Believe in yourself or believe someone else. The choice is yours.

Stop pretending to be an atheist.

If you're not pretending, read some skeptic articles.

Which version of "Christianity"? There are Christians who don't believe in a god that torments people for all eternity.

A real god wouldn't have to use threats. The scare stories are proof that Christianity is not true and that the church needs to frighten people into believing.

It is wiser to believe and be good, and find out later that you were wrong, than not believe and do all kind of nasty things, and find out that you were wrong.

If Christianity is true then why Islam, Hinduism etc can't be true. The fact is none of them is true.
2012-05-16 04:11:31 UTC
There's nothing in the Bible that says hell is a place of torment, so even if you're Christian you shouldn't worry too much about it.

Don't be scared. It isn't true.
