Hi,
Why do you ask the question for Atheists only?
One of the most proponent of the thesis that we are was Neil Postman, he wrote a book on that "amusing ourselves to death" and he was jew.
The book was written in 1985, and the author wanted to show that if 1984 was not a realized prophecy, Brave New World is. 1984 is a world where books are burned, Brave New World a world where every body is so obsess by entertainment that you do not have to burn them. Everything is made to be an entertainment, even news or learning. All has to be fun, nothing is more frightening than boredom.

Emmanuel

We reached parts of Brave New World years ago :-( Other sections will not happen for some time or at all.
The future was not totally bleak just different from what we perceive. The workers were happy with their positions in life and enjoyed doing what they were told. Religion has been doing the same thing to people for centuries and people still sign up to be told what and how to think and act.
Huxley based part of his book on Communism part on Capitalism and part on religious beliefs.
It was and still is a great book.

i'm shocked that colleges will assist you to study it, not to point out require it. it may well be slightly heavy getting into the commencing up. i'd propose you stumble on a replica of Ayn Rand's short novel "Anthem", and study that first. that is not as long or dark as Huxley, even with the incontrovertible fact that it may well be a physically powerful speedy study to ramp as much as the problem. it could additionally be a physically powerful reference could you have an essay try. the place Huxley leaves you to choose what's lacking in the "suited" society, Rand quite plenty spells it out in one notice.

Just SOME random thoughts David. YOU are SECURE in Christ!
Isn't it ironic that God himself inspired the writers of the Old Testament to record that Israel would would cease to be as a nation, but would be brought back in the ending times.
HUNDREDS of years after it was written, Israel was in deep disobedience to God, and in AD 90, they were scattered about the world!
In AD 1948, Israel became a nation again! UNPRECEDENTED in the world, after a nearly 2000 year absence, the nation was brought back to existence. : ) BELIEVE!

of the billions of fictional books that show a distopia based on a lack of religion, all one has to do is look AT REAL history to note the distopia that was the dark ages was based on religion having power over society.
quite frankly, balance is key.

personally i think religion is one of the biggest threats to our world
it creates even more unneccesary divisions amongst people..
why can't we all just be people? and try and live our lives peacefully together? not christians or muslims or hindus or whatever.. just people.
