Question:
If we evolved from monkeys then why?

Do we have monkeys alive and we have humans alive and well, then why is there noone alive that is linking everything together. We have perfect examples of our orgin and perfect examples of the result. Yet all the various stage that we see pictures of have become extinct.

You have been stupid enough to ask a question that debates established scientific fact by attempting to use the argument from intelligent design, for this I show no mercy. I will provide links to multiple sites thatyou will read (or watch the videos) in their entirety before ever returning and asking another similar question. You must not i repeat MUST NOT ignore this answer.

I'm including links to all of it, because that is where the confusion usually lies with "intelligent design advocates" that's right you are confused with ALL of it.

This is how it starts with the theory of abiogensis, its basically the SCIENCE of life coming from non living material.

Next we go onto evolution, first a general overview that introduces you to the basic concepts of the theory and should help you understand the wider concepts when it comes to the evolution of man. I would like you to note that even the Vatican has formerly accepted evolution as a fact.

EVOLUTION

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution

http://evolution.berkeley.edu/

Next we move onto the bit most people have major problems the infamous "men coming from monkeys"... read it and weep you did indeed evolve from a common ancestor to them, whether you like it or not.

EVOLUTION OF MAN

Next here is the case for "intelligent design" AKA

"creationist science" being shut down and thrown out of

court, satisfyingly enough by a church going republican.

INTELLIGENT DESIGN IS WRONG ACCORDING TO CHRISTIANS

http://www.arcapologetics.org/blog/2005/12/intelligent-design-defeated-by-church.html

Here are further links explaining why you have failed on so many levels its almost unbelievable. Basically instead of teaching you about science these links should show you what

is WRONG with intelligent design.

INTELLIGENT DESIGN IS WRONG

And finally, if you have indeed read the articles from ALL of the links i have provided and you still have a case for intelligent design then you are imunised against logical

thought.

Intelligent design is wrong, using arguments provided by its

supporters is a direct stain on your religion. Please refrain

from ever using these arguments on this forum again.

You answered my question on atheists and I liked it so I'm gonna answer yours and show you not all atheists are ignorant and rude.

To be honest with you, if we did evolve from monkeys I believe it's because our dna is almost the exact same to that of monkeys. So possibly monkeys dna obviously evolved because of a virus or something or maybe it was destiny. Nobody can be certain.

The reason no group has evolved slower is because evolution evolves at the exact speed for example.

Continents grow further apart each day but they grow the exact speed and distance as you finger nails. So the length of you finger nails in 1 week will be the distance the continents have moved apart and the speed will be the same.

Sorry for it being a long answer but I hope I answered it to give you the info you were looking for.

The explanation provided by evolutionary sciences describes that both monkeys, apes (including humans), and prosimians descended from a common simian-like ancestor. Humans did not descend from any monkey specie that exists today.

Even in the past 10 years or so, the available fossil record for hominoids (ancestors or not) has become positively exciting as a great deal more fossils have been found and are being better understood. The fossil record will continue to have new significance as time goes by, and what explanations anthropologists will provide based on the evidence is bound to change. But the fact is there are many skulls of various homonoid populations (species) that do not correspond to modern populations but that may be ancestral or lateral, at least in terms of the skull characteristics. I think you would be able to talk to some anthropologists that are satified that there are some missing links no longer missing.

However, I do agree with you that there are questions about the origins and existence of humankind that evolutionary science explains very poorly. Missing links are one of those objections I have. But I do encourage you to study what has been found in terms of the fossil record and in terms of DNA research. Then, you will either have changed your mind or have a better argument. It's a fascinating subject, and I wish you well in it.

*drink* wooo, starting to get dizzy

Anyway, we still have primates and simians because of the following fact: entire species do not evolve together.

This is because members of distant populations cannot mate but members of the same population can.

In the case of human evolution. Human predecessors (let's say Sahelanthropus tchadensis) were under an environmental stress and during this time, a mutation (most likely for enhanced mental capabilities or bipedalism) arose. The individual with this mutation had an advantage and therefore mated more often and passed the mutation to their offspring. This process continued until the entire population (note that I didn't say species) was replaced with Australopithecus afarensis. Sahelanthropus tchadensis then went extinct because of the environmental stress.

But simians and primates were not affected by this stress so they didn't go extinct.

Primates are mammals that include lemurs, monkeys, apes and humans.

The Strepsirrhini, or “wet-nosed” primates, which include lemurs and lorises, branched off around 63 million years ago.

Old World monkeys and apes divided from New World monkeys about 40 million years ago.

Aegyptopithecus zeuxis, which probably resembles the common ancestor of New World monkeys and apes, lived about 29 million years ago.

The apes split from Old World monkeys about 25 million years ago.

Humans and chimpanzees diverged 5-7 million years ago.

So on each split the original got left behind to stay as it was!

Of the macaque's nearly 3 billion DNA base pairs, 93.5 per cent are identical to those in the human genome. This is not unexpected for a species whose lineage diverged from our own about 25 million years ago. The human and chimp genomes, which diverged just 6 million years ago, are about 98 per cent identical.

One puzzling discovery is that several mutations that cause genetic diseases in humans - such as phenylketonuria and Sanfilippo syndrome, which lead to mental retardation - are the normal form in macaques and, presumably, our own ancestors.

But then are you one of those that the church is now so critical of?

The Pope, Catholic Church, Church of England and mainstream churches all accept evolution and the big bang!!

Lord Carey the former Archbishop of Canterbury put it rather well – “Creationism is the fruit of a fundamentalist approach to scripture, ignoring scholarship and critical learning, and confusing different understandings of truth”!!

Is your ambition to be a laughingstock for christans and atheists alike?!!

All monkeys and primates (humans are a species of primate) alive today have common ancestor species way back in time. New species branch off and develop along side the parental species lots of times. Then those species branch again and again, while some of the earlier species die off. Evolution does not imply a single line with one species taking the place of its ancestors. If this were how it worked, there would be only one species alive in the world at a time.

Because it does not work that way. First there was primordial soup, a chemical broth. Science is about to annouce its first created life form from nothing but primordial soup. Yes thats right a real living, self replicating, single cell organism. Proving once and for all time that life is self emergent.

Then the single cell organism joins with others of its kind and grows another membrain arround them all, creating multi cell life forms. The original single cell life form remains along with the new multi cell life form and they live side by side maybe with one feeding off the other.

Then some of the multi cell life forms decide to go around in groups because it gives them an advantage. But the lone multi cell life forms and the single cell life form remain. Maybe feeding on each other.

See how it works. There a little less darkness dissapears out of the world.. :)

your answering your own question apes are a branch off of our common ancestor and are closely related to us different species evolve in different ways we just happened to develop a more complex mind.

There is ample evidence of evolution such as pretty much all mammals in the initial fetal stages look alike if you look at an early human embryo we have tails gills etc but we do not keep or develop these features as other species do from our common ancestor.

Species is your answer.

A species is like a tree with many branches. Some branch left and others right. Mankind took a turn in physical evolution and you could say "he branched left" while apes remained a DNA link off or branched right. There is little DNA that separates man from APE in the physical sense.

In the spritual sense my guess is mankind is "above ape" in truths of spritual self, yet, I also sense many can argue apes kill far less than man for no reason other than greed.

So, who can say we are more spritualy 'evolved" than any species?

This surprisingly common argument reflects several levels of ignorance about evolution. The first mistake is that evolution does not teach that humans descended from monkeys; it states that both have a common ancestor.

The deeper error is that this objection is tantamount to asking, "If children descended from adults, why are there still adults?" New species evolve by splintering off from established ones, when populations of organisms become isolated from the main branch of their family and acquire sufficient differences to remain forever distinct. The parent species may survive indefinitely thereafter, or it may become extinct.

there is no scientific fact on evolution, its all theory, with no proof whatsoever, everything alive is going to have some kind of biological link, but that doesnt mean we evolved from them.

the only thing monkeys and humans have in common is the ears and hands are similar, other than that, theres nothing. there is no proof that bones which look just like that of apes evolved into human or were neanderthals. there are huge missing links in evolution that makes scientist upset because it blows a whole in the theory, why dont they try and explain which monkey became which race??its garbage,if they think intelligent design is fake ,evolution is an even bigger joke. if they want to be from monkeys then more power to them.

Monkeys have tails. Apes do not. Humans are a type of ape and share a common ancestor to the other great apes. We also share a common ancestor with rodents and fish. Absolutely fascinating if you ask me.

Evolutionists will tell you that we don't come from monkeys but we have a common ancestor. This ancestor has never been found, so it is merely a hypothesis, not even a theory. Their beliefs change all the time, years ago we came from monkeys, now we don't. Years ago the universe was 4 billion years old, now it's in the teens somewhere. Tomorrow perhaps monkeys will have come from us.

lol this is my favourite stupid creationist question. I just love it. Good job.

Think of it like a tree that branches apart. Monkeys and humans share a common ancestor, we did not "come from them." its like a tree that branches apart.

The other species that came before humans have become extinct over time. Just like species today become extict.

We are genetically cousins to apes, not evolved *from* them. In other words, we have a common ancestor.

And as for the other thing you talk about, it's survival of the fittest, that's why others stages are extinct.

* We and other primates share common transitional ancestral specie.

* All species are transitional species by themselves, meaning we are all evolving still.
