I think you mean 'omniscient'.  But, whatever the case prayer is an exercise for establishing a relationship with God, and also helps us grow and become stronger in faith.  When we pray to God we're setting our intentions and expectations, in which God responds in kind.  It's not so much the prayer itself that is the active agent, but our dedication.  



Whether we get what we ask for or not, is irrelevant because our devotion is to relying on God to know what is necessary and best for us; otherwise we wouldn't need prayer.  In fitness, we might want to lift a heavy weight, or perform an advanced technique as our goal, but if we give up because we fail, we would fulfil our ambition without doing necessary work it takes to attain it.  Prayer works much in the same way.



Our intention and willingness to improve ourselves is the significance of the adage, "God helps those who help themselves".  If there is no desire for increasing growth and strength, because "you got it like that", God is not obligated to help us.  All trials and challenges are about demonstrating one's worthiness for advancement.  The eagerness to take on the next challenge is where our true power comes from.



The idea that God would grant us what we pray for, "if He truly loves us", results in disappointment.  God is not a "genie" who exists to grant our every wish.  Setting unrealistic expectations is a set up for failure.  God also isn't a "psychic" or "fortune teller".  He knows every possible outcome to every possible decision and action, but doesn't know how we will choose or act, before we do, because finite time (as in "past, present and future"), does not apply to an 'Eternal God'.

Look at it like this, Your life is a TREE. God KNOWS the outcome of every single path that YOU decide to make, will be. If you take the path of drugs, then there are many paths on that limb, some which lead to rehabilitation, some branches lead to imprisonment, some lead to death. God knows the outcome of every single path on your TREE. (OMNIPOTENT), but because of freewill, HE does not know what path YOU will choose to take. (This by the way can be Scripturally proven)



demons are dispatched from satan to keep people on branches that they should not be on. But here is where Prayers come into play, the more people who are praying for a certain thing, the more Angels of God will work to make the choices a person makes to be better ones, leading them off branches they should not be on.

Prayers can actually ADD branches to a limb, that had no branches previously.

For example, a person is heading up a branch that leads to Overdose. They have been on this branch for a long time, God has provided many limbs leading OFF THAT BRANCH, but the individual failed to take them all. There comes a point if that individual does not get off that branch they will OD and die. There will likewise come a point when there are no more limbs leading off that path. This is where prayers of others come in. The Prayers of others, will cause God to ADD more limbs to get off that path, more opportunities for that individual to seek help, get help, and get off that branch, limbs that would not have been there if it were not for prayers of others.



Please note, all the prayers in the world can't MAKE that person get off the branch they chose to follow, so ultimately it is that individual who had to consciously make the chose to take the many limbs off that branch.



So Prayers are extremely important, because they ADD more options for God to work on the person you are praying for. If you need Prayer, then you better be getting others to Pray for you as well. Because i assure you Prayers work.

   Although the Bible says that Jehovah God knows everything..."your Father knows what you need even before you ask him".(Matthew 6:8, NWT). It also shows that He is not interested in merely collecting facts about His worshippers. (Psalm 139:6; Romans 11:33) His limitless memory is not like that of a computer that impersonally stores data about individuals. 

  In fact, God is keenly interested in our innermost thoughts because He wants us to draw closer to Him. (James 4:8) That is why Jesus encouraged His followers to pray, even though his Father well knows our basic needs. (Matthew 6:6-8) The more we share our thoughts with our Creator, the more we will draw close to Him.

   Please, imagine that children don't speak with their parents because their parents know, what they need: so they don't ask about any help, don't thank for food and clothes (parents know that they are thankful in their hearts), don't tell them what problems they have (parents know them).... Is it NORMAL? Is it a family? No, it is not united by love.... Should children say that they love their parents although parents know this? Yes! And husbands say not one time that they love their wives, although they know that... SO WE SHOW AND EXPRESS OUR LOVE. Similarly we express our love to God when we ask Him for help (we show that we realise our helpless in some cases), we thank for food and other good things (and express our thankfulness), we tell our problems and joys (and become closer to God, we become friends), we say that we love God and feel happy!!!!
