The vast majority of Freemasons are practicing Christians, mostly protestant. Not all of them, but most of them. A Past Master of a Lodge I belong to is a practicing minister.

Freemasonry is just a fraternity, NOTHING MORE. It's tenets are Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. It strives to make its members better men and to make the world a better place through acts of charity. But it is NOT A CHARITY, it is a fraternity. To be a Freemason, a man must profess a belief in God, but it is NOT A RELIGION, it is a fraternity. Meetings open an close with non-denominational prayers. Freemasonry does not endorse any religions, nor does it condemn or denounce any religions, either. A man's faith and how he chooses to worship the God he believes in is his own business, it's not the place of the fraternity to dictate how anybody should worship. If a Freemason chooses to proselytize, that's his business...but he does it OUTSIDE the Lodge.

It's ironic, and a little sad, to see someone condemning Freemasonry because it teaches tolerance for those who don't practice the same religion as ourselves. But that should tell you a little bit about those who are condemning it and how hateful and judgmental they are. It should also tell you something about how hypocritical they are...if you pay attention, you'll notice the argument comes from the same kind of people who insist it's okay to have public schools encourage children to pray since the schools don't tell them HOW to pray and anybody can do it according to their own religion. So the same people saying the government should encourage children of different faiths to pray together are condemning a fraternity that has grownups of different faith pray together. Funny, huh? In the end, all you can do is feel sorry for them and maybe say a prayer for them that they'll learn to be less judgmental. Freemasonry teaches us not to fight with people like that. It doesn't contradict the Bible in any way whatsoever. Part of what upsets hardcore evangelicals is that Freemasonry doesn't CONFIRM the Bible. It doesn't say, "Christ is the way and you should be a Christian." Why would it? IT'S NOT A RELIGION, it's a Fraternity. It's the Church's job to spread the Church's message.

Freemasonry is NOT a mutual benefit society and members don't pledge to help each other above others. There's no "secret codes." The guy talking about that is full of just as much nonsense as the religious nut. It's not "exclusive at the highest levels." THERE ARE NO "HIGHEST LEVELS," all Freemasons are equals of each other and it's not "exclusive" at all, it's open to all men who believe in God and abide by their country's laws.

Masonic lodge has no religious or philosophic basis. It is based only on humanity. Therefore it's not a cult, they are more of a club that is tight nit. They stick together and have secret codes even for E-mail, if you get an E-mail from a Mason it will have a secret code so each Mason can recognize one another and only allow others in their group the best opportunities to succeed on this planet. It is a universal group at the very highest level. It has nothing to to with God almighty and in the end is futile, like all other human pursuits.

It is not a cult, and not a religion. It's pretty much a club with rituals based on material from the Bible. They use the building of King Solomon's Temple as an allegory for moral self improvement. The lessons are entirely compatible with any open minded and accepting faith.

In my experience Christian churches which preach against Freemasonry will also preach against any other Christian church but their own.

The Masonic lodge is a cult, not a religion, and worships a man.

.Who said a Christian can't be a Mason?

The Hebrew word "Messiah" and the Greek word "Christ" both mean anointed; usually a consecrated person. When applied to Jesus, it means "God's anointed one." The Bible clearly teaches that Jesus is the Christ in many places but the most definitive statements are found in Mark 14:61, 62; Matthew 16:15-17; and John 4:25, 26.

To deny that Jesus is the Christ is to condemn oneself to eternal damnation. 1 John 2:22, 23 says, "who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the Antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. whoever denies the Son does not have the Father, the one who confesses the Son has the Father also." Revelation 21:8 says that the unbelieving and liars will all be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone.

Masonic tradition teaches the worship of the supreme God, the Great Architect of the Universe. Who is this God? Investigate the words of Albert Pike, 33rd degree Mason and author of Morals and Dogma, p.226:

Masonry, around whose altars the Christian, the Hebrew, the Moslem, the Brahmin, the followers of Confucius and Zoroaster, can assemble as brethren and unite in prayer to the one God who is above all the Ballim, must needs leave it to each of its Initiates to look for the foundation of his faith and hope to the written scriptures of his own religion.

God teaches in Exodus 20:3-5, that "You shall have no other gods before Me, you shall not make for yourself an idol...you shall not worship them or serve them..."

In Judges 1 and 2, the Israelites did not drive out the followers of false gods and God's verdict was, "They shall become as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you." (Judges 2:3) God's commandment to us as Christians is not only should we not be bound together with unbelievers, (2 Corinthians 6:14-17) but we should seek to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20) by preaching the saving gospel of Jesus Christ.

Freemasonry is in direct conflict with the Bible in that Masonry condones communal worship of a generic deity:

To respect all forms of worship, to tolerate all political and religious opinions; not to blame, and still less to condemn the religion of others; not to seek to make converts; but to be content if they have the religion of Socrates; a veneration for the Creator, the religion of good works, and grateful acknowledgment of God's blessings. (Morals and Dogma, p.333)
