My mother and I are confused. She is catholic and so naturally, I was brought up as one also. Is this the chosen religion by god and how can we REALLY know? Also, when Jesus came to the people, he claimed he was the King of the Jews, didn't he? So if he said this and is the only real prophet people can actually claim proved something shouldn't we all be jewish too? What is the FIRST origin of religion?

Jesus started THE church

Jesus is the ONLY religious leader who was able to come back from the dead.

All the other religious leaders died........and stayed that way

That in itself is enough for me to make a choice.

The Jews, as I understand it, thought was Jesus was here to establish an earthly kingdom. He was here to establish a Heavenly kingdom and offer us a way to get there.

Since He didn't establish the earthly kingdom, the Jews do not think He is the Savior.

The Christian Church and Church of Christ more closely follow the teachings of Jesus, IMO.

Mysticism has been around since the dawn of civilization, over 10 millenia ago. Hinduism is the longest standing religion, although you can attribute the first use of monotheism to the ancient Zoroastrians, who held a belief similar to Jews and Christians, and this belief was indeed embedded in some of the beliefs of the Jews and Christians upon the founding of their religion. Judaism took many beliefs from the beliefs of the ancient Babylonians. The classic flood story was actually depicted in the Epic of Gilgamesh, a text that was written almost 1000 years earlier.

Abrahamic Religions are not so much original religions as compilations of many, many religions which have grown and flourished as time has went on. Most Christian holidays are not Christian at all, but pagan holidays adapted so that Pagans would be more likely to convert to Christianity.

But Jesus was not a Jew by religion. Jewish people can be of two different classes; racial Jews and religious Jews. While Jesus was racially a Jew, he was religiously an early follower of "The Way", which evolved from Jewish and Roman religious practices combined together. "The Way", after a while after Jesus' death was changed to Christianity.

Also, the first recorded 'true' religion would most likely be the ancient beliefs of the Mesopotamians, one of the first civilizations to grace the Earth.

You need to back up. First, read your Bible - all of it. God always came down on organized religion because it inevitably was man made. God is not the source of religion - man is. There is no "right religion". Rather, there is God, the truth of the Bible, Jesus Christ, God's provision for the sin of man, and God's Holy Spirit to guide us into truth. Jesus was called the King of the Jews because He was the prophesied Messiah - the Savior promised by God to the Jewish people. More than 300 prophecies about the coming Messiah from the Old Testament were fulfilled in Jesus. But, Jesus is the Savior for all mankind - not just the Jews.

In fact, the Jews rejected Christ, and so the gospel spread to the Gentiles and all the earth.

Religion is not the point - Relationship with God through Christ is the whole point. And you can pursue that relationship without any "correct" religion or church.

Q. Is this (Catholicism) the chosen religion by god and how can we REALLY know?

A. Not really. Jesus Christ, God the Son, started Catholicism. He did not chose it.

Matthew 16:17-19 states: Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

Q. Also, when Jesus came to the people, he claimed he was the King of the Jews, didn't he?

A. Not really. Other people called Jesus "King of the Jews," he did not claim the title for Himself.

Q. So if he said this and is the only real prophet people can actually claim proved something shouldn't we all be jewish too?

A. In the Scripture above, Jesus was very clear that he wanted to build a new church.

Q. What is the FIRST origin of religion?

A. The first origin of religion was when God created human beings with a soul, free will, and responsibility. The relationship between God and these first human beings was the origin of religion.

With love in Christ.

Jesus never said he was a Jew the people said that, Jesus told Pilate that he was the king of the Jews.

first origin that was written was the Hebrew, but the Hindu maybe had started earlier but their documents are not found to be older,

A Jew is a religion that does not believe in Jesus being the Christ,

when a person tells me that they are a Catholic that usually means that they don't read the Bible,

Religion may be older than humanity - it is thought that Neanderthals at least had death rituals to see the person off into the afterlife.

There is an excellent quote from a Simpsons episode where Marge is struggling with Homer to get him to go to church. He argues, "How do we know this is the right religion? If it isn't, then God will be mad at us."

Religion is a very deep topic and it is beneficial to read all the world's scriptures and to study comparative religion and comparative mythology, and the history of the ancient world. It's also beneficial to read theology and the atheist rebuttals of theology. It even helps to watch comedies about religion, such as "The Life of Brian." In this movie as Jesus is delivering his sermon on the mount and he says "Blessed are the peacemakers," not everyone hears it in this way. It's a windy day, and the people in the back here it as "Blessed are the cheesemakers." To which one listener responds, "Cheesemakers? What's so special about them? Why not the bakers?" This is an excellent satirical comment on how people misinterpret scriptures.

The origin is God. Jesus is God's Son. Jesus did not tell his followers to go out into the world to preach his words until the majority of Jews had refused to follow him. Although the Christian faith is based in part on Judeism, it has taken it a step further.

The first official "church" that was set up was in Rome...i.e. Roman Catholic. However, no where in the Bible does Jesus say that having "churches" (organized religion) is what he had in mind. He knew..just as I know...that person to person sharing of faith will go a lot further to bring people to God than will a preacher or priest standing in front of you on Sunday morning will do. Seek God, not religion.

1) Is this the chosen religion by god and how can we REALLY know?

You can't *really* know. You have to judge for yourself. It takes *faith*, not *certain knowledge*. If you don't have faith in the doctrines of Roman Catholicism, I hope that at least you will continue to have faith in Jesus.

2) Also, when Jesus came to the people, he claimed he was the King of the Jews, didn't he?

Not as far as I know. This is the excuse used by the Jewish High Priest to give Pontius Pilate cause to execute Jesus - but, as far as I can remember, Jesus is never recorded as claiming this title for himself. He *did* call himself "a king" (verse 37)

http://www.studybibleforum.com/htm_php.php3?do=jump_to_chapter&refstr=John+18%3A37&trans=NASB

but verse 36 clearly shows that he did not consider himself king of the Jews, but rather of the "heavenly kingdom" or "the kingdom of God".

John 12:13-15 calls him the king of Israel - but Jesus is not speaking here, the author is narrating.

There are similar passages throughout the gospels - others claiming that Jesus is king of Israel, but never is he recorded claiming that title for himself.

As your premise is invalid, evaluating the logic of the conclusion is pointless.

I'm an evangelical and I agree with a lot of what Catholics believe. I also believe that the Catholic church is a legitimate church.

It is true that Jesus is a Jew and Christians are followers of a Jew and students of the Jewish faith but Gentile Christians are not Jews.

The roman catholic religion did not start until 872 when Bishop Thomas decided to break away from the Eastern Orthodox - christian - religion which was started by Constantine in 325 denounced in 400 and revived in 525. Jesus had nothing to do with it, they mostly followed Paul who only had 3rd or 4th person hearsay as to what happened. If Jesus knew what would become of the religion that carries his name he would have strangled himself with his own umbilical cord. He never claimed to be king of anything. Other people shoved that crap on him.

I believe that we can have a relationship with God. That means following Jesus example. Jesus talked to God when ever he wanted to and we can too. Read the bible, talk to God find out for yourself how real he is. religion is not the answer. Church is fine but choose one that you know is teaching god's word. one that teaches you to have the same relationship with Jesus that the deciles had. where you can talk to him without going through a priest or pastor or anyone just you and God. It isn't the first example but I think that the most exciting church experience is like that of the deciles in the upper room. Church is supposed to be a place where we uplift and encourage each other like they did when they went to the upper room.

The first religion would be Judism (Adam and Eve), because Christ wouldn't be on the seen. But once people didn't believe in God, they created religions based on God and the things around them.

Not exactly. Jesus came from the Jews, but is the bridge between mortal and immortal.

This is the chosen religion if you believe so. I believe so because the Bible lines up w/ science and history.

These are good questions.

First, yes - Jesus came to be King of the Jews.

Second, Paul the apostle pointed out that gentiles (non-Jews) do NOT need to convert to Judaism to believe in Jesus.

Third, you're absolutely correct that He claimed to be the only REAL prophet people can actually claim proved something.

As to the last part, the origin of religion, this is a bit more complicated.

Originally God walked and talked with Adam in the cool of the evening. There is no indication in the Bible what they talked about, so anything that anybody says is purely conjecture.

The thing is, there was a real relationship there.

When that relationship was broken, God gave Man the means by which that relationship could be re-established.

But people didn't want to acknowledge that they had failed, didn't want to admit they were actually guilty, so they began creating their own man-made methods of bringing God down to man's level, instead of following God's methods of bringing us up to His level. This is where religion had it's start - when people decided to do things THEIR way instead of God's.

This has been going on for thousands of years, and even after God selected Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to be the nation from which the Promised One would come, the nation of Israel (sometimes referred to as the children of Israel - God changed Jacob's name to Israel, and he had 12 sons, each of which became the father of one tribe) - but even AFTER God selected the chosen nation, Israel continually fell back into idol worship and false religions.

That is why God kept sending prophets to tell Israel to repent and turn back to God. This is all found in the Jewish Scriptures (AKA the Old Testament).

The New Testament book of Hebrews begins by saying that in the old days, God spoke by His prophets, but in these last days, He spoke to us through His Son (Jesus).

Jesus came to re-establish a relationship and reconcile us back to God.

The moment you add any kind of trappings or activities, you fall back into the same problem as the children of Israel, because God is looking for a Relationship with us through His Son, Jesus Christ.

"It is by faith that we are saved, through grace. It is the gift of God, not by works, lest any man should boast." according to Ephesians.

Being "Catholic" or "Presbyterian" or "Baptist" doesn't save us. Asking Jesus to forgive us for our sins and be the Lord (boss) of our lives allows Jesus to establish a relationship with Him, and that is called being "born again" (John 3), no matter which "label" you use for yourself.

God wants us to get OUT of religious thinking, and get INTO a relationship with Him.

I think I added more than you asked for, but hopefully, I was able to answer your questions.

God bless you.

1) The word Christos is a Greek form of the word Messiah, which means "anointed one". *Every* Jewish king had this title.

2) Every shred of evidence that Jesus ever existed (outside of religious texts) has been debunked. Until someone provides more, there is no reason to think "he" is more than a myth.

3) The oldest religious texts in the world are the Vedas of India.

Look, Jesus was the hardest on religious leaders because they turned God’s word into a man made rituals and glory. He just wants us to follow the Holy Bible. Jesus is the king of the Jews which has a part in Biblical end-times prophecy. But He came to save all people who will follow him.

If Christ is the founder of Christianity, then a person can be right or wrong concerning things about him according to what he said. Is the Roman Catholic Church right about what they say or do? Read what He said and figure it out for yourself.

John 3

17 "For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son."

Is there anything concerning the Roman Catholic Church in these words? Or is it about Christ and trusting Him?

Jesus was Jewish yes but we as Christians follow his teaching and the old testament so in root we are like Jews but more like evolved Jews if that makes sense. they just don't believe in Jesus or at least that he was the messiah. hope this helps.

As a believer you 'are' Jewish by a spirit of adoption as described as "Roman" law. Roman law gave the adopted 100% of familial rights. Exmp. if the first born (or adopted) 50% of inheritance. 50% to the remainder of 1/2 brothers.

God has no religion. Look all through the Bible and you will not find one place where God established a religion. It's not how good you are at a denomination, but if you truly believe in Christ or not.

There is only One God, with many religions.

I do not believe 'religion' is necessary to have an "up close and personal" relationship" with the Lord. It is, after all, between you and God, alone.

Pray to God on whether your religion is true or not. After you pray stay on your knees for a while and listen. The next time you go to church, after you pray, if you feel uncomfortable, seek out another religion.

Good luck!

John 4: God is spirit and he desires worshippers in spirit and in truth.

Whatever name or shoolaboolaloo you use doesn't matter. That's why Jesus teaches that people who regard his name might still not receive eternal life. What's important is your inner heart and that you're honest with God.

Tip: Don't mix honesty up with blabbering though... keep in mind how you behave ;]

James 1:27

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Matthew 24:4-5

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

Colossians 2:8

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world and not after Christ.

1 Corinthians 14:33

For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

2 Timothy 2:15

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Isaiah 8:16,18-20

Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.

To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

2 Corinthians 4:3-4

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

you cant really know

most people only believe what they are raised to believe

some people question that and find they believe something quite different deep down

some people are happy with their religion and remain with it

the first religions go back thousands of years before Judaism let alone Christianity

the oldest practised religion just now is Hinduism and branches of Paganism

Catholicism is the One True Faith. You can know for sure by practicing devotion to the Holy Rosary:

http://www.ewtn.com/Devotionals/prayers/rosary/how_to.htm

The fifteen promises of Mary to Christians who recite the rosary:

1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary shall receive signal graces.

2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.

3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against Hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.

4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.

5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.

6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries, shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God and become worthy of eternal life.

7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.

8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plenitude of His graces; at the moment of death, they shall participate in the merits of the saints in Paradise.

9. I shall deliver from Purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.

10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.

11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.

12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.

13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire Celestial Court during their life and at the hour of death.

14. All who recite the Rosary are my sons, and brothers of my only Son, Jesus Christ.

15. Devotion to my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

God bless!

We will never know the "first" origin of religion. Over the years the people of power have done a pretty good job of erasing the past.

As such, we can't really know all of history.

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

There was going to be a falling away first from the faith 2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.

That would happen with the Bishops 1Ti 3:1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop (Elder, Overseer, Shepperd more names same office), he desireth a good work.

1Ti 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

1Pe 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

Peter was an Elder too.

The fall would start with the Elders (Bishops) this is some of the things that would be taught by them to fall away from the true faith.

2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

1Ti 4:3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

1Ti 4:4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:

1Ti 4:5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

2Th 2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2Th 2:2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

2Th 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

2Th 2:5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

2Th 2:6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

2Th 2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

2Th 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

2Th 2:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

2Th 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

2Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

2Th 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

God said in 1Co 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
