Question:
in the song Does anybody hear her by Casting Crowns.....?
2008-07-24 15:54:30 UTC
why at the end does it change to "he is running a hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction"

She is running
A hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction
She is trying
But the canyon's ever widening
In the depths of her cold heart
So she sets out on another misadventure just to find
She's another two years older
And she's three more steps behind

Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?
Or does anybody even know she's going down today
Under the shadow of our steeple
With all the lost and lonely people
Searching for the hope that's tucked away in you and me
Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?

She is yearning
For shelter and affection
That she never found at home
She is searching
For a hero to ride in
To ride in and save the day
And in walks her prince charming
And he knows just what to say
Momentary lapse of reason
And she gives herself away

Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?
Or does anybody even know she's going down today
Under the shadow of our steeple
With all the lost and lonely people
Searching for the hope that's tucked away in you and me
Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?

If judgment looms under every steeple
If lofty glances from lofty people
Can't see past her scarlet letter
And we've never even met her

If judgment looms under every steeple
If lofty glances from lofty people
Can't see past her scarlet letter
And we've never even met her

If Judgement looms under every steeple
If lofty glances from lofty people
Can't see past her scarlet letter
And we've never even met her

Never even met her
(Never Even Met her)

(OHHHHH)Does anybody hear her? Does anybody see?
Or does anybody even know she's going down today
Under the shadow of our steeple
With all the lost and lonely people
Searching for the hope that's tucked away in you and me

Does anybody hear her? (Does anybody hear her?) Does anybody see? (Does anybody See?)
Does anybody even know she's going down today?
Under the shadow of our steeple (shadow of her steeple)
With all the lost and lonely people (Lost and Lonely people)
Searching for the hope that's tucked away in you and me
Does anybody hear her? Does anybody see?

He is running a hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction

I think it is to suggest that this happens to guys too and that the song could go on.

God bless

Wow! Powerful lyrics.

I haven't heard the song (obviously) but I'd guess the "He" ties back to prince charming. The interesting questiion is who is the prince charming, and whether he's more related to the steeple or the lost and lonely people.

I take it to mean that the song is talking about another person. There are many who are going in the wrong direction & I just believe it's a continuation of another person needing help.

I always thought it was talking about the guy that the girl gave herself away too, but that always made me wonder. It could be the start of another story or it could be that guy running away from that girl because she is pregnant, hope that helped you in some sort of way.

I am pretty sure they are saying that it is not only females who run in the wrong direction. Guys aren't any better than girls when it comes to sin. Even when Jesus forgives, people find it hard to do the same.

it shows that all peolpe, guys and girls, need Jesus. that we're all sinners, and that we all mess up.
