Question:
Christians, do you consider yourself to be an unusual Christian?

I know that my question is nebulous. Perhaps it's better left to interpretation. That may result in a greater spectrum of responses.

I can't judge myself very well, because of the objectivity problem. But I suppose that I am a little unusual for a Christian (whatever that may mean). I hope that I do not sound prideful, but I have to confess that one of my besetting sins is pride. How am I unusual? I do not know. Well, okay- for instance, I like heavy metal. Some Christians bash heavy metal, and say it's satanic. True, some metal is evil, but there is no one genre of music that has a monopoly on wickedness. A lot of different sorts of music condone and glorify sin (which I think is bad). I also like horror movies, as well. Does this make me an unusual Christian? You be the judge. Commentary is welcome.

So for all my fellow Christians, do you consider yourself to be an unusual sort of Christian? Why?

With all due respect. You're not unusual, you are merely walking with and rubbing elbows with the world and trying to justify it to others by calling it unusual. Here is a video below I highly recommend .

I consider myself unusual--as do most people who know me.

I'm a self-labeled Christian hedonist. Unfortunately it's not as racy as it sounds. ;) It just means that I think enjoying moral acts makes them more moral rather than less moral. I think having fun is a good thing, as long as nobody gets hurt. That's in direct opposition to the traditional Christian view that anything fun must be a sin.

I do a lot of things that other Christians would consider sinful, but I myself consider perfectly fine. For instance, I read and write romance novels. I enjoy reading them, and it's not like I'm suddenly going to turn into a slut just because I'm reading about sex. If that were the case I wouldn't still be virgo intacta after four years at a college where the "walk of shame" was more like a "walk of pride."

I listen to a lot of music, much of it pagan, some of it what can only be termed Satanic. (Honestly, what else are you going to term songs about raising demons?) Again, I don't see anything sinful about simply listening to music, whatever the message. It only becomes a problem if you start believing that message.

I believe abortion is murder. I believe premarital sex is wrong, but divorce is worse. I believe there's nothing wrong with being homosexual. I believe that performing homosexual acts is only wrong insofar as it is premarital sex.

I'm unusual in that I don't agree with any denomination's description of what a Christian "should" be. Nor do I dismiss their definition of sin out-of-hand. If the church says something is sinful, then I consider it, and try to determine for myself whether the action is actually morally wrong.

I'm friends with people of many faiths, and I don't constantly try to convert them to Christianity, because I know that wouldn't work. Instead I try to live as a good example, and if the topic of religion comes up, I'm prepared to defend my viewpoint. Another thing that makes me unusual is that these defenses rarely come from the Bible. I believe what I believe based on science and history, not any religious text.

Some people probably think I'm unusual for a Christian, I do have some beliefs that regular Christians wouldn't have. I also enjoy practices such as meditation. I like to study what others believe and I choose to pay attention to the good in it rather than the bad. Regarding your interest in heavy metal and horror movies, I spent my childhood slaughtering people on video games, and I like horror movies too, and most horror games. Therefore, in my opinion, you are not unusual.

I fully accept and am interested in evolution, specifically human evolution in anthropology, I like punk rock and some Metal (but actually I have been listening to soft stuff like the Carpenters lately, maybe I am getting old) . I believe that the rich have to much power in the world,(big companies and corporations) and I am more skeptical of these than of the government. I believe in the Bible as overall moral truth, but not in a very literal way, still I consider myself a Christian, one who is Spiritual but not religious, I don't go to Church but I do pray and sometimes do some re-reading in the bible (I have read the whole thing, but must admit there are parts I don't remember). I don't believe that everyone who believes is going to heaven and all non believers are going to hell, I think it will have to do with what is in your heart in a way that is a bit more complex than that, otherwise God would not be just.

part of the reason I don't go to Church is because of my sleep schedule, the other part is because I don't think many Churches would be compatible with my particular Ideas on theology.

I think I am a bit unusual among Christians, Many Christians would probably says I am not a "real" christian.

I am sadly far from perfect myself---I could also make some better choices. But, one thing that I do know is that pride is far from being a Christian way. Jesus did indeed say, "Learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart". So, this prideful way of being is quite unattractive to me.

Also, I wouldn't be boasting my bad choices and then publishing them on the internet as me being "an unusual sort of Christian". It would be better and wiser to be taking time to ponder these choices and asking God for help in dealing with them.

I will counter your question with, how much time do you spend with The Father alone? This is the most important aspect of our christian walk on earth. And we have the Risen Lord as our example. He withdrew much to go and spend time with His Father. If you are doing this, you will find your answer. A yahoo board is a unlikely place to find an answer for what you ask. Because it involves "your personal" relationship with God. And God has babes, teens, and adults in the faith. Spending time with Him, and in His Word, and living it out is how you will grow, and your questions will be answered when He is your ALL 100% Continue, and don't let others discourage you, but also be open for the Holy Spirit to convict you if you are in a place of needed instruction..

no, those things are forms of entertainment and you are grounded and unmoveable in your belief in God.

I am not here to judge you, but I enjoy different genres of music and I like horror movies as well, I do not make idols of them and just like you, I look to the hills because I know where my help comes from.

You are fine. We are not to be fanatics.

You are not unusual, there are many many that are Christians that are grounded in the word of God and know how to live and enjoy life within the confines of what Christ teaches, these are able to take meat and are done with milk.

God bless you. Enjoy life and be entertained.

Yes because I don't have a building I go to worship in.

John 4:23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.

the term "christian" means Christ-like. if you or i or anyone else is making an effort to be like Jesus Christ through his blood and by his spirit living within us, then we are definately unusual.

as for watching horror films and listening to heavy metal music, those are things which only God can condone or not in your life. if he doesn't care if you do those things, then why should i or any other follower of Jesus? it is up to the Lord to clean us up in whatever areas he chooses to do. we are only supposed to obey if he says not to do them anymore.

No more unusual than any other Liberal Christian. I see the Bible as a human record of the progressive development of our understanding of God, development that is on-going. I believe that God will ultimately save everyone. I believe that Jesus came to show us what God is like, not to be a sacrifice so that God could forgive sin.

If they are Christian, then by definition they are 'unusual'.
