How are we supposed to believe in all of the irrational stories/parables the Bible says. Who's to say that it's the word of God?

We obviously disregard the Bible in our everyday life - because in the world of technology - logic and reason applies all the time - which is hardly present in the Bible.

If you apply logic and reason - it will plainly say that a lot of what the Bible says and claims is false. This is especially true of the clergy who read from it all the time - just look at the clergy and what do they do these days?

The comforts and luxuries of this century - is due to the hard work of logical thinkers and builders. Are we going to find a Bible amongst the text they read regularly? I think not...

You have only to review what happened with Galileo - who could not openly declare his findings via his telescope - that the Earth was not the center of the Universe, etc etc.

I was so confused for many years what the bible was all about till i got a teaching bible and read it for myself with out a pasto,r priest ,preacher, or rabbi I asked God to show me the truth and he did just that.. It is a difficult book to understand but when God gives you the understanding you too will see that every word written are the inspired word's of God,, a teaching bible will explain in the beginning of each book who wrote the book (such as matthew) who it was written about and why it was written, the time frame and which king ruled at the time it was written and so on.. believe me you will find it to be easier to understand if you read 4 yourself while the hebrew text is most difficult to understand I like the new international version is so easy to read as easy as reading a newspaper,,Archeologist have proof that everything such as the sea of gallilae, the well where water was drawn for christ, calverys hill where they crusified people for lawlessness and the list goes on,, Good luck and God will surely bless the reader of his word

1. We don't.

2. Lots of what is written in the bible is illogical and contra to scientific fact.

Therefore it is likely that a lot of what is written in the bible is not true. Until quite recently ( say early 20th century ) it was not entirely accepted that diseases were spread by germs. Diseases were thought to be due to god's wrath. Today we know different. Some 2000 years ago when the bible was written the people that wrote it had much less knowledge than we have to day and therefore had to explain the causes of natural events - diseases, earthquakes, local floods etc - in terms of what they understood at the time.

That is a question each person has to decide for themselves. No one can tell anyone else that they "have to" believe the bible is the inspired word of God.

I do, because I've studied it, for about ten years now. Another person may have read it and discarded it, not believing a word of it.

However it should be noted: if the bible truly is the word of God, a person thinking it isn't will not negate that it is.

The key is prophecy.

Prophecy is central to the Bible.

Many prophecies have already been fulfilled,

present-day headlines show them to be in the process of being fulfilled, and future one will surely come to pass.

In short? The Bible has a good track record.

And if you don't think you believe some of the stories, then maybe your god isn't big enough.

i do no longer think that each thing in the Bible is actual. I do belive that God dictated what could desire to be in the Bible yet guy wrote and translated the words. issues have an inclination to wander off in translation and individuals tend to curl issues to verify their very own purposes. yet another excuse I question the validity is the drastic ameliorations between the previous testomony and the hot testomony and the actuality that aspects of the gospels are lacking. i could desire to bypass on and on yet i will spare everybody and my hands.

They are spiritually discerned- so they will be foolish to you until you unlock them. Jesus Christ is the Word of God. If the enemies of God can discredit the Word then they win a huge victory in deception. Ask God to show you the truth and He will. The scriptures intrepret themselves.

Because, amongst other reasons, God witnesses that it it true.

Though we can know there is a God through His creation, we cannot know what He is like except He reveal Himself and we cannot actually know Him except through the truth of the Bible.

He promises to all who seek Him that they will find and He promises His indwelling Spirit to those who are His, amongst other things, to enable them to know Him and to know the truth.

The natural mind is unable to discern the spiritual truth of the Bible and God has shut up all to this condition so that none can find out God except He reveal to them.

That is very humbling to the natural mind and the proud heart of man that thinks it knows better than God, but God gives opportunity to every one and deals with each individually.

By this the heart is known and if your heart is not genuine then He will leave you to the ignorance that you have thereby chosen.

Rather seek Him then for His most precious gift and be willing to trust Him for His infinite goodness.

The Bible is our only record of God's revelation to us and describes the goodness and love and glory of God in Jesus Christ Whom God has vindicated and witnessed to us, in the Resurrection.

The Bible is God's certain testimony to us of His salvation in Jesus Christ by Whom we may be brought into fellowship with Him, but how will you know that until you seek God?

God is the Spirit. God (the Spirit) has no shape or form.

Don't say 'God he.. or God in his... etc'. The Spirit has not shape or form. That was invented by those who wanted to control us through religion hundreds or thousands of years age. The bible was written by extremely intelligent human beings. We pray to the Spirit (God) every single night. And guess what? No preacher to pay! The Spirit gave us intelligence but most don't use it.

You seem to be having a crisis of faith. Take some time to reread the bible. I'm sure you'll find something in there to restore your faith in god and man.

its the word of G-d because it says it is. Circular reasoning at its finest.

Otherwise, there's not a shred of objective evidence to say that it is. If you choose to believe on faith that everything in it is literally true, you are welcome to do that, I suppose.

Personally I think you'd get far more out of it by reading it as metaphor and taking into account the historical and social context of the times it purports to be describing. But that's me.

If you want to believe that it is the absolute truth, you are more than welcome to do so. There is no factual evidence to indicate that any of it contains even an ounce of truth, but that is not the question here....you can believe whatever you want.

I want to give you five reasons to affirm the Bible is the Word of God.

First, the Bible is the Word of God because of its scientific accuracy. The Truth of the Word of God tells us that God “hangeth the earth upon nothing” (Job 26:7). How did Job know that the earth hung in space before the age of modern astronomy and space travel? The Holy Spirit told him. The scientists of Isaiah’s day didn’t know the topography of the earth, but Isaiah said, “It is [God] that sitteth upon the circle of the earth” (Isaiah 40:22). The word for “circle” here means a globe or sphere. How did Isaiah know that God say upon the circle of the earth? By divine inspiration.

Secondly, the Bible is affirmed through historical accuracy. Do you remember the story about the handwriting on the wall that is found in the fifth chapter of Daniel? Belshazzar hosted a feast with a thousand of his lords and ladies. Suddenly, a gruesome hand appeared out of nowhere and began to write on a wall. The king was disturbed and asked for someone to interpret the writing. Daniel was found and gave the interpretation. After the interpretation, “Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.” (Daniel 5:29). Basing their opinion on Babylonian records, the historians claim this never happened. According to the records, the last king of Babylon was not Belshazzar, but a man named Nabonidas. And so, they said, the Bible is in error. There wasn’t a record of a king named Belshazzar. Well, the spades of archeologists continued to do their work. In 1853, an inscription was found on a cornerstone of a temple built by Nabonidas, to the god Ur, which read: “May I, Nabonidas, king of Babylon, not sin against thee. And may reverence for thee dwell in the heart of Belshazzar, my first-born favorite son.” From other inscriptions, it was learned that Belshazzar and Nabonidas were co-regents. Nabonidas traveled while Belshazzar stayed home to run the kingdom. Now that we know that Belshazzar and Nabonidas were co-regents, it makes sense that Belshazzar would say that Daniel would be the third ruler. What a marvelous nugget of truth tucked away in the Word of God!

Third, from Genesis to Revelation, the Bible reads as one book. And there is incredible unity to the Bible. The Bible is one book, and yet it is made up of 66 books, was written by at least 40 different authors over a period of about 1600 years, in 13 different countries and on three different continents. It was written in at least three different languages by people in all professions. The Bible forms one beautiful temple of truth that does not contradict itself theologically, morally, ethically, doctrinally, scientifically, historically, or in any other way.

Fourth, did you know the Bible is the only book in the world that has accurate prophecy? When you read the prophecies of the Bible, you simply have to stand back in awe. There are over 300 precise prophecies that deal with the Lord Jesus Christ in the Old Testament that are fulfilled in the New Testament. To say that these are fulfilled by chance is an astronomical impossibility.

Finally, the Bible is not a book of the month, but the Book of the ages. First Peter 1:25 says: “But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the Word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” No book has ever had as much opposition as the Bible. Men have laughed at it, scorned it, burned it, ridiculed it, and made laws against it. But the Word of God has survived. And it is applicable today as much as it was yesterday and will be tomorrow.

It’s so majestically deep that scholars could swim and never touch the bottom. Yet so wonderfully shallow that a little child could come and get a drink of water without fear of drowning. That is God’s precious, holy Word. The Word of God. Know it. Believe it. It is True.

and if you think it has contradictions read this.

The Bible has many seeming contradictions within its pages. For example, the four Gospels give four differing accounts as to what was written on the sign that hung on the cross.

“And above His head they put up the charge against Him which read, ‘THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS’.”

—Matthew 27:37

“The inscription of the charge against Him read, ‘THE KING OF THE JEWS’.”

—Mark 15:26

“Now there was also an inscription above Him, ‘THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS’.”

—Luke 23:38

“Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It was written, ‘JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS’.”

—John 19:19

Those who are looking for contradictions may therefore say, “See—the Bible is full of mistakes!” and choose to reject it entirely as being untrustworthy.

However, those who trust God have no problem harmonizing the Gospels. There is no contradiction if the sign simply said, “This is Jesus of Nazareth the King of the Jews.”

The godly base their confidence on two truths: 1) “all Scripture is given by inspiration of God” (2 Timothy 3:16); and 2) an elementary rule of Scripture is that God has deliberately included seeming contradictions in His Word to “snare” the proud. He has “hidden” things from the “wise and prudent” and “revealed them to babes” (Luke 10:21), purposely choosing foolish things to confound the wise (1 Corinthians 1:27).

If an ungodly man refuses to humble himself and obey the gospel, and instead desires to build a case against the Bible, God gives him enough material to build his own gallows.

This incredible principle is clearly illustrated in the account of the capture of Zedekiah, king of Judah. Jeremiah the prophet told Zedekiah that God would judge him. He was informed that he would be “delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon” (Jeremiah 32:4). This is confirmed in Jeremiah 39:5-7 where we are told that he was captured and brought to King Nebuchadnezzar, then they “bound him with chains, to carry him to Babylon.”

However, in Ezekiel 12:13, God Himself warned, “I will bring him to Babylon …yet he shall not see it, though he shall die there” (emphasis added). Here is material to build a case against the Bible! It is an obvious mistake. Three Bible verses say that the king would go to Babylon, and yet the Bible in another place says that he would not see Babylon. How can someone be taken somewhere and not see it? It makes no sense at all—unless Zedekiah was blinded. And that is precisely what happened. Zedekiah saw Nebuchadnezzar face to face, saw his sons killed before his eyes, then “the king of Babylon… put out Zedekiah's eyes” before taking him to Babylon (Jeremiah 39:6,7).

This is the underlying principle behind the many “contradictions” of Holy Scripture (such as how many horses David had, who was the first to arrive at the tomb after the resurrection of Jesus, etc.).

God has turned the tables on proud, arrogant, self-righteous man. When he proudly stands outside of the kingdom of God, and seeks to justify his sinfulness through evidence he thinks discredits the Bible, he doesn't realize that God has simply lowered the door of life, so that only those who are prepared to exercise faith, and bow in humility may enter.

It is interesting to note that the seeming contradictions in the four Gospels attest to the fact that there was no corroboration between the writers.

God bless and take care.

If you have read the book you would not had asked this question, it is so confusing that no man could have written it. It is written at an 8th grade reading level. It was initially translated from Hebrew to Greek and then to English and other languages. Only a fool will deny the content of the bible as it is indicated in the following verses:

1sa 9:27 As they were going down at the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us (and he passed on), but stand thou still first, that I may cause thee to hear the WORD OF GOD.
