Question:
Christians, what is your view of Jesus...?

Was Jesus a nice guy who talked peace all the time?
Was Jesus one who convicted and showed people their sin?

What do you see Jesus as... I have a couple verses and a quote that I would like you to think about first...

Malachi 3:6-
I am the Lord, I do not change

Exodus 15:3-
The Lord is a warrior, the Lord is his name

How would telling people to be nice to one another get a man crucified? What government would execute Mr. Rogers or Captain Kangaroo? - Philip Yancey

I am a born-again Christian for 6 years, I am going into my final year of my Bible Ministries Bachelor's Degree, and I don't buy into the current view of Jesus as a "peace loving Hippie type".

What are your opinions?

I agree. Jesus was not a "peace loving Hippie type." He was the perfect man who knew when it was right to fight or be peaceful. I believe there was conviction in the people around Him but not as much from His pointing it out directly but from the example He gave and the words He spoke. Conviction really just means being convinced so when people heard what He had to say and watched His actions they became convinced He knew what He was talking about and felt compelled to change.

I do not agree that Jesus believed in peace at all cost and there would never be a time for battle. He does know the best times and ways to battle.

First, both of the verses are about Yahweh, not Jesus.

Second, while the OT says clearly that the messiah was going to kick butt and take names while restoring David's throne, Jesus was friends with Romans and advocated paying taxes to Rome.

Third, telling people to be nice doesn't get you crucified, running throuth the temple overturning the tables of those who were selling sacrificial animals and lending money to buy the sacrificial animals gets you crucified. We're talking disrupting the major revenue stream of the high priests.

If Jesus was not a peace loving hippie type, why didn't he ever advocate resistance to Rome? He was even polite to Pilate while he was on trial.

Face it. Jesus would have fit right in with the peace and love crowd and would have been disgusted by the way in which his name has been used in support of war.

Since I feel that he is 2000 years dead I don't have anything to worry about but if I believed he was still around I'd go easy on beating plowshares into swords.

Jesus was crucified by the leaders of the jewish religion. Of course, the Romans carried out the sentence, but it was the Jewish leadership who felt threatened by Jesus' teachings because it loosened their control over the people. Much the same way as the Christians crucified others over the centuries (not in the sense of hanging people on crosses, but of killing them body and/or mind) with their forced conversions. I don't think it would take Jesus getting violent to have people show so much hatred toward him. I see that even here... Blessings in the Light of Christ!

HOW ABOUT THIS - Jesus washed a strangers feet took care of the sick , condemned taxation in temples , had a prostitute(according to catholics) as friend or other , I don't know dude -sounds like a great guy to me - not like a warrior at all. more like a green party member!

just because Paul rewrote the bible and changed a phenomenal amount of stuff ( he could have been drunk- high is not an option because that makes people peaceful) doesn't make it right !

I see him as a guy who did not come back from the dead to save the world. This goes against everything God said. It is highly likely that there was a man named Jesus (it was a very popular name at the time) who was killed on a cross (it was a very popular form of punishment for the Romans) Google "seven requirements of a sacrifice". Jesus as he is portrayed in the bible did not satisfy a single one.

large placed up :) I shop analyzing in this talk board that curiously Jesus is a 'jewish prophet' - information to me!!! i think of there are various explanation why this keeps going on: a million - human beings confuse Judaism with Islam. Muslims do view Jesus as a prophet 2 - human beings anticipate that purely through fact Jesus replaced into Jewish, and because Christianity reveres him, then so would desire to we - needless to say, that is defective good judgment The precise answer is that Jews are *indifferent* to Jesus. he's approximately as appropriate to us as Mohammed is - it is to declare, no longer appropriate in the slightest. Why some human beings take this reality as an 'insult', I purely don't comprehend! there's a small team of Christians in this internet site who shop hijacking posts directed at Jews; they then intentionally supply the incorrect tips, and demand that Jewish theology is comparable to Christian theology. properly, they are not. in my view, i'm quite uninterested in this actual team; i would not dream of telling Christians that I comprehend their faith 'greater effective' than they do - yet Christians shop emailing me and asserting precisely this! they are heavily deluded. If purely this team would desire to learn from our Pagan acquaintances; now they actually DO comprehend Judaism and that they furnish precise and interesting responses to posts on Jewish theology.

This is really long, but I agree with every word:

On January 1, 2000, the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles issued the following declaration. Titled "The Living Christ," this declaration bears witness of the Lord Jesus Christ and summarizes His identity and divine mission:

"As we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ two millennia ago, we offer our testimony of the reality of His matchless life and the infinite virtue of His great atoning sacrifice. None other has had so profound an influence upon all who have lived and will yet live upon the earth.

"He was the Great Jehovah of the Old Testament, the Messiah of the New. Under the direction of His Father, He was the creator of the earth. 'All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made' (John 1:3). Though sinless, He was baptized to fulfill all righteousness. He 'went about doing good' (Acts 10:38), yet was despised for it. His gospel was a message of peace and goodwill. He entreated all to follow His example. He walked the roads of Palestine, healing the sick, causing the blind to see, and raising the dead. He taught the truths of eternity, the reality of our premortal existence, the purpose of our life on earth, and the potential for the sons and daughters of God in the life to come. He instituted the sacrament as a reminder of His great atoning sacrifice. He was arrested and condemned on spurious charges, convicted to satisfy a mob, and sentenced to die on Calvary's cross. He gave His life to atone for the sins of all mankind. His was a great vicarious gift in behalf of all who would ever live upon the earth.

"We solemnly testify that His life, which is central to all human history, neither began in Bethlehem nor concluded on Calvary. He was the Firstborn of the Father, the Only Begotten Son in the flesh, the Redeemer of the world. He rose from the grave to 'become the firstfruits of them that slept' (1 Corinthians 15:20). As Risen Lord, He visited among those He had loved in life. He also ministered among His 'other sheep' (John 10:16) in ancient America. In the modern world, He and His Father appeared to the boy Joseph Smith, ushering in the long-promised 'dispensation of the fulness of times' (Ephesians 1:10). Of the Living Christ, the Prophet Joseph wrote: 'His eyes were as a flame of fire; the hair of his head was white like the pure snow; his countenance shone above the brightness of the sun; and his voice was as the sound of the rushing of great waters, even the voice of Jehovah, saying:

" 'I am the first and the last; I am he who liveth, I am he who was slain; I am your advocate with the Father' (D&C 110:3–4).

"We declare in words of solemnity that His priesthood and His Church have been restored upon the earth—'built upon the foundation of apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone' (Ephesians 2:20).

"We testify that He will someday return to earth. 'And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together' (Isaiah 40:5). He will rule as King of Kings and reign as Lord of Lords, and every knee shall bend and every tongue shall speak in worship before Him. Each of us will stand to be judged of Him according to our works and the desires of our hearts. We bear testimony, as His duly ordained Apostles, that Jesus is the Living Christ, the immortal Son of God. He is the great King Immanuel, who stands today on the right hand of His Father. He is the light, the life, and the hope of the world. His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come. God be thanked for the matchless gift of His divine Son"

Maybe some bearded man named Jusus did live 2000 years ago but he's the same as any other man, then and now.
