Why don't Christians learn from the prophets that came after Christ like Mohammad and Joseph Smith?

Both of these messengers carried messages to Christians to help them rectify their religious beliefs. But I don't think Christians care at all.

Well, in one thing these "prophets" (loosely speaking) can be paid attention to - where they spoke of the wrongs of the Christians of their time.

Muhammad was speaking that some Christians in his time did act badly, but also that the monks and priests were good, because they were not proud.

For example this from Quran:

"Sahih International: 5:14 And from those who say, "We are Christians" We took their covenant; but they forgot a portion of that of which they were reminded. So We caused among them animosity and hatred until the Day of Resurrection. And Allah is going to inform them about what they used to do."

Yes, i can agree this that Christians of his time were not perfect and there were some quarrels and even civil wars, which was not good.

But Muhammad also claimed that Jesus Christ is not God and not savior, and was not crucified and did not pay for our sins. Thus he was preaching an antichristian teaching and trying to mislead Christians to follow him instead. This we cannot agree.

Also he instigated wars and hate against Christians and Jews and died cursing them.

Would you really care much from such a person proclaiming to know God, and yet dies proclaiming curses and hate against us?

Similarly Joseph Smith did speak about the division and fallen state of churches in America at his time. However his solution was not very good too - returning to a form of Old Testament judaism, with polygamy, violence against others, proclaiming some false fictious teachings like book of Mormon, etc.

There are some deranged cases here on yahoo answers - for example one sectarian mormon or another granny, who says similar things - that Christians should be united, not divided and should obey Jesus' commandments, but their behavior shows hate and pride; so while i agree that Christians should be united by love and truth of God and Christ, i hardly can listen to people who show hate and pride and promote false anti-christian teachings like rejection of baptism, even though Jesus Himself underwent it as example for us.

What is true - is that we Christians should be better in deed with more love and care for each other, with God's grace.

Choosing a self-appointed "prophet" among hundreds, and all teaching something different only provides "confusion", 1 Cor. 14:33.

There are true prophets and false prophets.

The Bible warns us about false prophets repeatedly.

There are many prophets in the Bible after Christ

and the great majority of Christians believe in at least a few prophets after the Biblical period.

So

clearly

we do learn from prophets that came after Christ.

What we DON'T do, as a whole group, is eagerly embrace false prophets such as Muhammad and Smith.

Anyone who claims to be a prophet after Jesus came and taught us the way to his Father is a false prophet.

All true practicing Christians make copious use of the Holy Bible obeying what it's author Jehovah God teaches us and the example and instructions of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Jesus instructed us that we should ''worship the Father (Jesus father Jehovah) with spirit and truth. Not only do we all do our utmost and best we can each day but by preaching and teaching as commanded, we try to help others to do what God wants us to do;I believe that in Arabic Allah means God, His name is in English: JEHOVAH; there is only ONE true God who is the Universal Sovereign and Creator, listen to, worship and obediently give him exclusive devotion, Exodus 34:14 just as true Practicing Christians do and hopefully gain everlasting life.

Both of them are liars...that's why. Neither of them were influenced by God, but rather by Satan and demons.

Hebrew Christians of the 1st century were told, "In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word." The word of Christ is the last word and cannot be superseded. Hebrews 1:1-6 All claimed prophets coming after his last word to us in the book of Revelation are charlatans and frauds.

That is why, just before the book of Revelation, Christians are told to "contend earnestly for the faith that was ONCE FOR ALL delivered to the saints" - the saints at the close of the 1st century. The reason why Christian beliefs have become corrupted is by listening to claimed prophets saying they will interpret Jesus' words for us! Christians who care are those who stick faithfully to the words of Christ and do not add to them! Jesus warned there would be false apostles and false prophets! Christians who care believe Jesus and not Johnny-come-lately claimants to the role of 'prophets'!

Some Christians, myself included, do believe in progressive revelation. The majority believe the canon closed around the end of the first century.

"Rectify their religious beliefs"

Exactly what religious beliefs needed to be rectified?  Get this straight:  ANY so-called "prophet" who denies that...

1.  ...Jesus is God's only begotten Son, born of a virgin mother

2.  ...He lived a completely sinless life, then suffered and died on the cross in order to redeem the world of sins

3.  ...He was buried in a tomb of hewn rock, from which He rose again and showed Himself alive to hundreds of witnesses

4.  ...Besides being God's only begotten Son, He is ALSO none other than God HIMSELF, incarnate in a human body.  He always has been God, the Son, before, during and after His earthly lifetime

5.  ...he Holy Trinity is ALSO God, not a mere servant or "force" to be dispatched by God, the Father and/or God, the Son (Jesus).

ANYONE denying any of these points is a FALSE prophet.

Each religion/version of a religion has its own rules and makes its own history , Smith and Mohamed are only prophets for those religions, not for others.

God's words warn us that if any person or angel comes to us telling us another gospel, other than the words that we have been given, we are to understand that the prophets are not of God, but false prophets, and the angels are fallen angels, not Godly angels. God changes His Truth for no one. He will keep His words. The Bible did not come of one man's private interpretation (not Muhammad, Joseph Smith, Charles Taze Russell) but the gospel has been preserved, and the words of many prophets over a span of many years. Joseph Smith, Muhammad, Charles Taze Russell ... these men did not rediscover the lost truth, that was never lost to begin with. The cults do not take God's words at face value, but take His words out of their rightful context in the Scriptures, and insert His words into a different context, the doctrines of their own making, thus changing the interpretation, redirecting man from God's truth onto lies and deception.

The book of Revelation pronounces a curse on those who add or take away from God's words, and this is not the only book of the Bible which does this. Jehovah's Witnesses take what they want out of the Bible that they want to believe is true, and reject whatever they do not wish to agree with, namely the deity of Jesus, explanation that He is not an angel...etc... When people heed God's words, they stay on the right path, as God's words are a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path, and that is the path to life. To depart from God's words is rebellion against His authority. One cannot be a follower unless he/she is a follower of their Teacher's teachings. Those who depart, depart. Those who follow, follow.

Cults always find a way around God's words. Jesus said to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and the Bible explains to us what this is... these are those who placed their own teachings and doctrines above the Scriptures, and even made themselves out to be special mediators between the people and God... which is a doctrine of the Nicolaitanes (which means the conquering of the laity/people), which Jesus said He hated twice, in the book of Revelation. People repeat the same error of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, when they turn aside to cults. When presented with God's truth and then the contradicting words of Satan which cast  doubt on God's words, Adam and Eve chose the way that accursed them by placing their trust in satan, and to whom one has allowed themselves to be overcome by, the same is the servant of.

They exchanged God as their authority figure to the devil... and dominion transferred from God to Satan, and this is why Jesus (the God who made this world) said that His kingdom is not of this world. He is not saying that He did not make the world, but that He is not operating as King of this world -- not yet anyway. The Bible protects us from errors, and the Scriptures are our safeguard and guard rails. But they only protect us if we read them and believe in them. God knows every person who trusts in Him, and we are not believers in Him if we are not believers in His words.

When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own:1 for he is a liar, and the father of it.45, And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.46,  Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?47, He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. - Galatians 1:8-9, KJV

To worship God is to put Him first. His words above all, His authority above all, trust in Him above all. Loyalty is owed to Him, not to them. God gave us His Truth and the believers in Him, believe Him.

Bcuz it conflicts and neither accept the divinity of Jesus.

So much conflicts.  Takes too long to go through it.

Prophecy must line up.

Our beliefs are clear from the Bible.

You RECTIFY error.

If you knew the insanity...no other word of both these, you wouldn't post this.

I think you don't know what Christianity is, either.  Do you?
