Question:
Who else thinks there needs to be a division of R&S especially for prayer requests?

Since some here think that R&S is not for that... Religion=prayer, I personally don't see why people have a problem with it, in fact I think we have a right to ask for prayer in a spiritual question/discussion area. I can't believe some have been removed for asking for prayer.
Shoot me a quick amen if you agree and would like either to be allowed to keep your prayer request or have a special area for that.

I can believe that someone would be removed for asking a prayer request. YA in general is a fourm to seek and give knowledge from those around us. R&S a sub-catagory is here to again seek and gain knowledge about spiritual things and religion in general. This is not your own personal soap box, if you have a prayer request you should take it to the elders in your church.

Here's a big AMEN from me sister!.

Let me tell you all something!, I have looked over the content in every forum, and I have read the filthiest stuff, and even read people telling other to commit suicide. There is so much foolish evil stuff going on in these forums, and not being removed. So you know there is a liberal Godless agenda going on!.They cannot ALLOW HOPE on here. Now if you asked for what pill could solve your problem then well that would be o.k., but to suggest that JESUS could be the answer which HE is, well that cannot be tolerated.

Oh yeah, I got a prayer request, Let's pray for the moderaters that are Jesus haters to go in Jesus name!. And also pray that I conceive real soon, been trying for 9 months. Thanks honey, thats a great question.

Religion does NOT equal Christianity. Many religious groups pray, including my Pagan path.

Prayer requests have a tendency to take over if they're allowed. That's true of Pagan groups as well as more mainstream traditions. Prayer requests don't belong in a discussion forum because they inhibit conversation and drive away people that don't want to listen to a litany of people's problems- there should be a special place for that.
2007-11-01 16:53:34 UTC
The only reason I could possibly see a question being removed for a prayer request if it wasn't actually a question. Thats it. I'm an atheist, but see prayer requests as harmless and if getting a bunch of responses to a request makes someone's day, more power to them. I hate when people totally bash someone's prayer request. I mean, just leave the asker alone, they didn't provoke you or anything.

Yahoo answers is NOT the place for discussion, it's the place where one person asks a question, several people answer it, and a concensus is taken as to which answer is the best fit to that question.

Prayer requests can be done in church, and on many message boards all across the internet, why do we need another one?

And to the person above who says "a forum".

This is NOT a forum. If it were a forum, I would be able to post another time, instead of having to "edit" my question.. Total difference. Someone really needs to read the answers tos again.

I'm not sure this is the most appropriate place for prayer requests. I think Yahoo groups and Yahoo chatrooms are more suited for prayer requests.

However, I agree that R&S needs to be divided. Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, even atheism all deserve their own category. I even feel Baptists, Catholics, Evangelicals, etc., probably deserve their own categories!

I sympathize with you and I would agree that you have a right to ask for prayers, but I don't think this is the best place to ask since so many different belief systems are represented here.

Yahoo!Answers is a Q&A forum. The answers become a sort of wiki-encyclopedia. But many people do make friends here and it is natural to want friends to pray with you.

I would recommend connecting with those friends through a different online venue, maybe 360.

Wow we are not even tolerated in R&S? Praise God from whom all blessing flow!! If other groups which I choose not to name can come together and bash wheher we had our own section or not we should be able to come together and LIFT others up in His name in the Privacy of our own home at the request of others in our own category or not...God did not say except for chat rooms and forums if two or more come in my name there will I be also.He is omnipotent meaning everywhere at once! Dosent matter if we never see each other or even know each other by first name Jesus is in the midst and NO ONE can take that away from us NO ONE...

I personaly havent came in contact with anyone who made a comment about prayer request but I am sure some may get uncomfortable and want us to go else where when we do....and really I dont mind but they should know the POWER OF GOD through whatever venue He chooses CAN NOT BE stopped and this is a GOOD thing :) Smile Jesus loves you all

I can't see anything wrong with a Request for Prayer every Now and Then.

With this being Yahoo Answers, prayer requests would not fit with the question and answer format that Yahoo intends for this site... so unfortunately, I don't see how your proposal could be made to work within the site's clearly defined purpose.

I think genuine requests for prayer are fine, but I would think they should have their own place in your personal network, only because I think you should have a name of the person you are praying for and that would violate privacy to post that here.

I don't see why not. As long as you are willing to accept prayers from all who are willing to pray for you, it is not a problem. Ask away!

Technically asking for prayer, money, or anything else is not really a question. Yahoo Questions and Answers is not meant to be a discussion forum, request line, or news board.

No---there are sites for that and also the majority of people that request prayer are the ones that put down the idea that Catholics ask the Blessed Virgin in Heaven to pray for them.

WOW! Had not thought of this but YES! It would be great if it were like that. Perhaps also if there were other religions such as those who are believers and those who don't believe and those who believe in and practice magic.

Great idea! Now how do we make it happen.

Why aren't prayer requests allowed?
2007-11-01 16:53:51 UTC
I believe that prayer requests ARE "on topic" for R&S and see no real reason to pursue a seperate section/division for them.

If people disagree, (Athesists and others), then they should go to different categories. I dont see why they are here in the first place.

I've never understood why people need others to pray for them. Does god tally the prayers and grant the wishes of those with the most people praying for them? Shouldn't one prayer, one lone voice have just as much impact. God said, "ask, and ye shall recieve". Don't you believe that?

I don't. I don't believe any of it. Prayer is devinely-inspired begging in my opinion.

But if that's what you want....a new category....you should go to the suggestion boards and ask for them.

Or ask god...... and see if you recieve.

I can't see the harm it would cause anyone...Some people feel they have Friends here,,,and want their Friends to pray for them....if you don't approve,,,just move on to the next question...we see only a small number here and it shouldn't bother anyone....
2007-11-01 16:56:00 UTC
It"s against Yahoo TOS asking for prayer. Besides it"s selfish and inconsiderate to others who don"t share your belief.

There are plenty of Christian prayer sites you can go to for that, not on here.

Prayer requests do not fit the question-and-answer format for Yahoo! Answers and are unfit for this any heading within Y!A.

R&S is for the discussion of religion, not a place to practice it.

Post your prayer requests on 360.

Yeah, right, religion = Christianity. Have you ever heard a Buddhist or a Shintoist pray? I haven't. Have you ever heard a Taoist say Grace? I don't think so. Flawed premise.
