Jehovah's Witnesses are relatively unique among self-described Christians in that they understand the Scriptures to teach that God's Kingdom by Christ Jesus is a real government which will soon replace all earthly governments.

.. ..(Daniel 2:44) God of heaven will set up a kingdom... It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite

That Kingdom will rule over the vast majority of mankind, most of whom will have been raised from the dead after Armageddon.

.. ..(John 11:23,24) Jesus said to her: “Your brother will rise.” Martha said to him: “I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.”

.. ..(Acts 24:15) There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.

Until that resurrection, there is no suffering in "hell", or the grave. Sometime after the resurrection, death and "hell" will themselves be destroyed.

.. ..(Ecclesiastes 9:5) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all

.. ..(Ecclesiastes 9:10) there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol ["hell"]

.. ..(Revelation 20:14) And death and Hades ["hell"] were hurled into the lake of fire

While a limitted number of humans will be resurrected to heaven to share in ruling over mankind, the vast majority (literally more than 99.9%) of Jehovah's Witnesses expect an EARTHLY hope, the same hope given to Adam and Eve.

.. ..(Genesis 1:28) God blessed them and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill THE EARTH and subdue it [caps added]

.. ..(Genesis 2:17) You must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die [so never eating from that tree means never dying]

Interestingly, the Scriptures are full of references to this earthly hope.

.. ..(Psalms 37:11) 'the meek will possess the earth'

.. ..(Proverbs 2:21) 'upright will reside in the earth'

.. ..(Isaiah 45:18) 'God formed the earth to be inhabited'

.. ..(Matthew 5:5) 'the mild will inherit the earth'

.. ..(Revelation 21:3) The tent of God is with mankind

Jehovah's Witnesses are members of a restorationist[1][2] Christian denomination of the same name. The religion emerged from the Bible Student Movement, founded in the late 19th century by Charles Taze Russell. The name "Jehovah's Witnesses", based on Isaiah 43:10, was adopted at a 1931 convention of Bible students while under the leadership of Joseph Franklin Rutherford. Identification of the religion as Christian is disputed due to rejection of the Trinity, which most Christian religions regard as a fundamental doctrine.

Consider checking the PBS Independent Lens program "Knocking".

The Bible aside:

They believe in obeying the laws, even the inconvenient ones, like not speeding when late for work.

They pay their taxes, even though there are many ways to avoid them, as many ministers do in Christendom.

Their parties don’t need to include people getting bombed on gallons of beer.

There children are taught right along the parents. The youngest will not understand what they are learning, but by the time they reach the age of understanding (age 12), they have a basic knowledge.

The children’s Bible Story book is historically accurate.

Teenagers are taught it is better to wait until marriage for having sex, and for the most part they believe it. Yes, there are those who cannot wait, or have an oops, but they are the exception. As a result, Jws have the lowest rates of STDs and illegitimate births. Even lower than the Amish.

Their Kingdom Halls are built to compliment a neighborhood, not overwhelm it in size. When a congregation grows (250+ publishers), they are split to form a new one. About every five years. Since everyone is taught the same, it is simple to create a new set of elders and overseer. Each Hall can hold up to three congregations, meeting at different times. When another split takes place, a new Kingdom Hall is built*, usually in less than a week. In Christendom, churches just build them larger, allowing for an elite set of elder and pastor to stay in control.

Witnesses network with other congregations three times a year. Twice a year is the Circuit assembly, attended by ten congregations. Usually, a one hour drive maximum for the furthest congregation from the assembly location. Over 500 of these are held world wide. The District assembly, attended by 10 circuits (20,000 to 30,000 attending) are held once a year in the summer. People exchange experiences, what’s happening in their area, whose married, dating, pioneering, etc.

Another benefit of this is in the event of a disaster, they know where everyone lives and can be easily evacuated. Unlike other religions, during Katrina, every witness in New Orleans were put up in homes in Texas.

Hi Emily,

We believe in studying and obeying the Bible. We believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins, and that his death earned us the chance for everlasting life in a paradise earth. The Bible has many wonderful promises about how the "meek" or the "mild tempered" will inherit the earth, but how the wicked will be cut off from it (Psalm 37:10.11, Matthew 5:5)

We believe that Jesus predicted a time when all these things would happen, and that time is now (Matthew chapter 24 tells us the "sign" and that sign seems to be being fulfilled in our day). We are living in very important times for that reason. Our response to these Bible prophesies can mean our life or our death. And it is going to be such a wonderful future that we want everyone to know about it. Jehovah our God and his son Christ Jesus also want you to know and so they have asked us in the Bible to teach and to tell people about the wonderful promises that await us. (Matthew 28:19,20)

So we do. We go everywhere and teach as many as we can. not all want to know, but you have asked, and I think you sound like someone who might really like the happy news we have to share. Look up Isaiah 65 and read vs 17 through to the end of the chapter. THIS is what we believe is going to happen VERY soon. And we are delighted to tell people about it. Before it can happen however, obviously the conditions we see on earth now will have to be done away with. The Bible talks about a "war" called "Armageddon" in Revelation. This is "God's day" of bringing the earth to justice. The wicked will be destroyed and the "kings of the earth" will actually fight against God, but they won't win. (Revelation chapter 16)

This is a holy and righteous war, unlike most wars. It is a war that only God and his angels and Jesus and his holy ones in heaven will fight. We on earth will simply observe. It will be very selective about who is killed and who is preserved. Only those that God knows will fit in and be willing to be good in his new system will survive to enjoy it. The wicked and selfish and those who hurt other people won't be there.

I think you would like to learn more, what do you think?

Their view of morality reflects some of the usual conservative Christian views. Bestiality, homosexuality, incest, fornication and adultery are considered serious sins. [77] Abortion is considered murder.[78] Modesty in dress and grooming is frequently emphasized. Gambling is strictly forbidden,[79] as are stealing and drunkenness. The family structure is patriarchal. The husband is considered the final authority on family decisions, but is encouraged to solicit his wife's thoughts and feelings, as well as those of his children. Marriages are required to be monogamous.[80] Divorce is condemned for any reason other than adultery. Abuse and willful nonsupport of one's family is considered grounds for separation.

Jehovah's(God's) Witnesses(His chosen) believe that 144,000 people will be the only inhabitants of Heaven. This is because there were 12 Tribes of Israel and each Tribe is allotted 12,000 into Heaven.

Therefore the Jehova's teach that each Saturday, which is their Holy Day, their aspirants to Heavenshoould go forth and recruit others to join the merry Heaven-bound throng , with God , on Judgement Day, deciding whichof them shall be inlcuded in the 144,000 to stay with him.

The Jehova's, like the Jews, do not believe that Jesus was the Son of God, rather he was a brilliant Rabbinical personage that was one in a long line. They therefore do not celebrate such things as Easter and Christmas. (Christmas being a shortening of the old Catholic Christ-Mass, or Mass for Christ). It is interesting to note that one of the most staunch beliefs of the Jehova's Witnesse's is that human beings should not partake of blood transfusions, this being based on an Old Testament notation that humans should not partake of the blood of pigs. It is also interesting to note that in 1929 the founder of the Jehova's Witness movement, one David Wilson, found it perfectly alright that his daughter, who had been horrifically injured in an auto accident, should herself be allowed to receive transfusions to save her life. Many Jehova's Witnesses have, before that and since ,perished for lack of blood because of the teachings that he expounded about blood transfusions, bu it was perfectly okay for his daughter.

Ever Saturday morning the "pioneering:" Jehova's will bang on your door to recruit you into their numbers and give you a shot at Gloryland but remember the odds are short.....only 144,000 will make it.

They don't believe in celebrating holidays, only Jesus's death. They believe that only a certain amount of people go to heaven. They don't eat the bread or drink the wine, they just pass it around.

The worldwide Christian society of people who actively bear witness regarding Jehovah God and his purposes affecting mankind. They base their beliefs solely on the Bible

(1) Bible: Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God, and instead of adhering to a creed based on human tradition, they hold to the Bible as the standard for all their beliefs.

(2) God: They worship Jehovah as the only true God and freely speak to others about him and his loving purposes toward mankind. Anyone who publicly witnesses about Jehovah is usually identified as belonging to the one group—“Jehovah’s Witnesses.”

(3) Jesus Christ: They believe, not that Jesus Christ is part of a Trinity, but that, as the Bible says, he is the Son of God, the first of God’s creations; that he had a prehuman existence and that his life was transferred from heaven to the womb of a virgin, Mary; that his perfect human life laid down in sacrifice makes possible salvation to eternal life for those who exercise faith; that Christ is actively ruling as King, with God-given authority over all the earth since 1914.

(4) God’s Kingdom: They believe that God’s Kingdom is the only hope for mankind; that it is a real government; that it will soon destroy the present wicked system of things, including all human governments, and that it will produce a new system in which righteousness will prevail.

(5) Heavenly life: They believe that 144,000 spirit-anointed Christians will share with Christ in his heavenly Kingdom, ruling as kings with him. They do not believe that heaven is the reward for everyone who is “good.”

(6) The earth: They believe that God’s original purpose for the earth will be fulfilled; that the earth will be completely populated by worshipers of Jehovah and that these will be able to enjoy eternal life in human perfection; that even the dead will be raised to an opportunity to share in these blessings.

(7) Death: They believe that the dead are conscious of absolutely nothing; that they are experiencing neither pain nor pleasure in some spirit realm; that they do not exist except in God’s memory, so hope for their future life lies in a resurrection from the dead.

(8) Last days: They believe that we are living now, since 1914, in the last days of this wicked system of things; that some who saw the events of 1914 will also see the complete destruction of the present wicked world; that lovers of righteousness will survive into a cleansed earth.

(9) Separate from the world: They earnestly endeavor to be no part of the world, as Jesus said would be true of his followers. They show genuine Christian love for their neighbors, but they do not share in the politics or the wars of any nation. They provide for the material needs of their families but shun the world’s avid pursuit of material things and personal fame and its excessive indulgence in pleasure.

(10) Apply Bible counsel: They believe that it is important to apply the counsel of God’s Word in everyday life now—at home, in school, in business, in their congregation. Regardless of a person’s past way of life, he may become one of Jehovah’s Witnesses if he abandons practices condemned by God’s Word and applies its godly counsel. But if anyone thereafter makes a practice of adultery, fornication, homosexuality, drug abuse, drunkenness, lying, or stealing, he will be disfellowshipped from the organization.

The above list briefly states some outstanding beliefs of Jehovah’s Witnesses but by no means all the points on which their beliefs are different from those of other groups.

They belive there is no hell, that Jesus was just a man, and that he was hung on a stake not a cross. They believe also that man has no eternal spirit within him, and that when we die all that we are dies also. and that heaven is only for 144,00 people, only 144,000 people from the last 6000 years will be taken to heaven.

here are some Bible verses that show them to be wrong.

Mat 7:13 "You can enter God's Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell* is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose the easy way.

Mat 10:28 "Don't be afraid of those who want to kill you. They can only kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Mar 15:32 Let this Christ,* this King of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe." Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him.

1Cr 1:17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel-not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

Gal 6:12 Those who want to make a good impression outwardly are trying to compel you to be circumcised. The only reason they do this is to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ.

Gal 6:14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which* the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

Phl 3:18 For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.

Jesus was not just a man but also God. He died for our sins! Believe and repent and you will spend your eternal life with him in heaven, or with the jahova's whitnesses in Hell;

Jos 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that [were] on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

they are basicly christians that feel they need to live their lives as jesus did. They take everything in the bible very litteral. They are generally very pleasant human beings. They do not celebrate holidays of any kind. Umm, once you're baptized if you are 'bad' you are disfellowshipped and no one is allowed to talk to you, not even your family. However if you are not baptized they consider you to be 'figuring things out' and you're not disfellowshipped if you do 'bad' things. They can't smoke, or drink.

A pompous, insulated group of self-righteous bigots that Jehovah would never claim as Her followers. They believe themselves to be better than everyone else, and go out of their way to show it to us by constantly knocking on our door and harassing us with their self-righteousness every chance they get.

(Note all the thumbs-down. Obviously part of their conspiracy so smug in its self-righteousness.)

It is not possible to give a complete overview of our beliefs in a forum like this. If you contact a congregation near your home we will be happy to talk with you and answer any question you might have. You can contact us here:

For further information you can also visit one of our websites:

About us: http://www.watchtower.org/e/jt/article_01.htm

Some basic believes are:

1. ) We believe in one God named Jehovah. God is love. He is also holy, just, wise and almighty. God is the only one thats worthy to be worshiped. We pray to him through Christ.

2.) God created heaven and earth. He created humans in "his image". They lived in full harmony with God and each other on a perfect earth created by God.

3.) The first humans strayed away from God by refusing to obey his laws. This is how sin came into the world by misuse of free will. All humans inherited a sinful imperfect nature from Adam, the first human. Because of this imperfect nature all humans suffer and eventually die.

4.) God sent his son Jesus to earth. By believing in him we can be fully reconciled with God through the ransom sacrifice of Christ. As Christians we symbolize our belief in Jesus our Lord and Savior and our dedication to God by being baptised in Jesus name.

5.) God also lovingly gave us his inspired word, the Bible and the Holy Spirit to help us. We try to follow the commandments in the Bible and the guidance from Holy Spirit in all aspect of our life.

6.) Jesus, the king in Gods kingdom, will rule in righteousness and soon (no we don't know when) recreate a perfect world where all humans once again will live in full harmony with God and each other.

7.) In order for this to be possible those who refuses to obey Gods laws will be destroyed. But it is not for us to judge each other, the judgment belongs to God.

8.) As Christians we are obligated to share the good news about Gods Kingdom with others. We enjoy sharing Gods word the Bible with other people and helping them to get closer to God through Christ.

9.) We try to honor God by being exemplary in the Christian conduct that we recommend to others. We believe in living morally clean lives. We are peaceful people and do not participate in wars. We do not lie, steal or murder. We obey the law and are productive members of the society.

10.) We believe Christians should be organized in the same way as the first Cristian congregation. We have no professional clergy class, but are all equal as brothers. Jesus is our only leader. "Elders" are assigned to take care of the spiritual need of the congregation.

According to the numerous pamphlets I have received from accidentally opening the door to my apartment when JW's knock on it, they believe in Jehovah (not Jesus, not God, but Jehovah- there's a difference), and they believe that nothing in their life- not family, hobbies, work, etc.- should come before their devotion to Jehovah. This means they aren't allowed to participate in any team sports, school plays, contests (like beauty pageants or talent shows), cheerleading, or patriotic events, like singing the National Anthem or saying the Pledge of Allegiance. They're also not allowed to celebrate any holidays, including their own birthdays, because that would be putting themselves before Jehovah. They meet at places of worship called Kingdom Hall, and they very frequently deny medical intervention like blood transfusions, which sometimes causes them to die from very basic, treatable diseases, because they believe that the doctors are interfering with Jehovah's plan by saving their lives. They have a newsletter called The Watchtower that they try to pass out to people all the time, and they are famous for going door-to-door to try to recruit people to their beliefs. If you want more info, here's their Wikipedia definition.

Jehovah's Witnesses in a Nutshell

According to Jehovah's Witness' theology, God is a single person, not a Trinity, who does not know all things and is not everywhere. He first created Michael the Archangel through whom He created all "other things," including the universe, the earth, Adam and Eve, etc. This creative work took God 42,000 years. At one point, The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society taught that God ruled the universe from somewhere in the Pleiades star system. They have since modified this to say that the "Pleiades can no longer be considered the center of the universe and it would be unwise for us to try to fix God's throne as being at a particular spot in the universe."1 Such changes and even contradictions in teaching are frequent in the Watchtower organization and when a doctrine changes, they tell their followers that the light of truth is getting brighter.

After Adam sinned, the paradise which God had created for them, was ruined. So, God instituted a system of redemption which was revealed in the Bible and would ultimately lead to the crucifixion of Jesus the messiah. But, in the meantime, God needed to have a visible, theocratic organization on earth to accurately represent Him. Throughout history, this true organization had a remnant of faithful Jehovah's Witnesses (Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, etc.) but it wasn't until the late 1800's that Charles Taze Russell formerly began what is now known as the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society which is run out of Brooklyn, New York. This organization claims to be the only true channel of God's truth on earth today and that it alone can properly interpret God's word since it is the angel directed, prophet of God on earth.

When it came time for the savior to be born, Michael the Archangel became a human, in the form of Jesus. Jesus grew and kept all the laws of God and never sinned. Finally, when Jesus died, it was not on a cross, but on a torture stake, where he bore the sins of mankind -- but this did not include Adam's sins. Jesus rose from the dead as a spirit, not physically (his body was dissolved and taken by God) and during his visitations to people on earth, he manifested a temporary physical body for them to see and touch. Thus began the true Christian church of Jehovah's followers.

Throughout history there have been faithful Jehovah's witnesses who have managed to keep The Truth in spite of the "demonic" doctrine of Trinitarianism that has permeated the Christian church in "Christendom." Christendom is filled with pastors who are antichrists, in churches run by Satan, and who support the earthly governments which are all of the devil. In other words, all of Christianity is false and only the Jehovah's Witness "theocratic" organization lead by several men in Brooklyn, New York, is true.

In the late 1800's, a young man of 18 years, by the name of Charles Taze Russell, organized a Bible class in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1879 he sought to popularize his ideas on doctrine so he co-published The Herald of the Morning magazine with its founder, N. H. Barbour and by 1884 Russell controlled the publication and renamed it The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom, and founded Zion's Watch Tower Tract Society (now known as the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society). Russell served as the teacher and guide for the organization which taught that Jesus returned invisibly in 1914 and is now reigning in heaven. When Jesus finally returns physical to earth, which will happen at the time of the Battle of Armageddon, He will set up his earthly 1000 year kingdom. During this 1000 year period, people will be resurrected and have a second chance to receive eternal salvation by following the principles of Jehovah's Organization on earth known as the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. After the millennium, those who reject God and His organization will be annihilated; that is, they will cease to exist. The rest of the Jehovah's Witness who have faithfully followed God's organization on earth will be saved from eternal annihilation and reside forever on Paradise earth. Heaven, however, is a place for a special group of 144,000 Jehovah's Witnesses -- the only ones who are "born again" and who alone are allowed to take communion in their annual communion service. These are the ones who have "immortal life," all other Witnesses have "everlasting life." Those with immortal life do not have resurrected bodies. They have "spirit bodies." Those on Paradise Earth have everlasting life and consists of a resurrected body that must be maintained through eating, rest, etc.

When you study with the Jehovah's Witness, you agree to attend five meetings a week where you are taught from Watchtower literature. You cannot be baptized until you have studied their material for at least six months and have answered numerous questions before a panel of elders. Men are not supposed have long hair or wear beards and women are to dress in modest apparel. They refuse to vote, salute the flag, sing the "Star Spangled Banner, celebrate birthdays or Christmas, won't take blood transfusions, and they can't join the armed forces. A schedule of door-to-door canvassing is required where you distribute the Watchtower literature, acquire donations, and forward all monies to the headquarters in Brooklyn, New York.

If you ever leave the Jehovah's Witness organization, you are considered an apostate and are to be shunned.

They refuse to vote, salute the flag, sing the "Star Spangled Banner or other national anthems, celebrate birthdays or Christmas, won't take blood transfusions, and they can't join the armed forces. A schedule of door-to-door canvassing is required where you distribute the Watchtower literature, acquire donations, and forward all monies to the headquarters in Brooklyn, New York.

If you ever leave the Jehovah's Witness organization, you are considered an apostate and are to be shunned.

If you have any specific questions, please feel free to contact me. I grew up in this cult and made the choice of leaving it in my adult life. They abhor the word "cult" and deny being one at all yet they display all the signs of a cult including convincing its members to limit their contact with "worldly" people and to shun worldy things as much as possible and choosing to associate only with fellow beleivers. I am extremely familiar with their teachings and know others who have been in the organization for 30+ years and could answer questions that I might not even know.
